I agree. For some reason a lot of singers try to do what I call "The Luther." Luther Vandross had one of the best voices that I have ever heard in my lifetime. Luther had a way with his voice that of course is unmatched to anyone else. A lot of singers such as Denise, Johnny Gill and others try to do those so called prolonged runs and rifts the way Luther did it.

They need to leave Luther's style of singing alone and focus on their own style of singing.

After watching this and some other videos of Denise Williams in her prime, I would say she is amongst the top 2 best female singers in history, the other being Whitney Houston in her prime. Others would be be: Aretha Franklin in her prime, Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey (in her prime). Denise had awesome range- Mariah carey sings low and then uses her whistle register to hit high pitched notes but Denise hits those notes plus sings high using full voice as well.

I've heard it said that she has a vocal range of just over 4 octaves, and yes she has a rather impressive "whistle" register. Remember that she and Minnie Riperton both used to sing in Stevie Wonder's group, Wonderlove.

As to the comparisons with Mariah, well, let's be fair. Ms Williams is quite a bit older than Ms Carey, so it would be safe to say that some of her most stratospheric notes are in her past. Nonetheless, she still can get the job done, you must agree! ;)

I love Deniece Williams, but seriously, Mariah's whistle register is far superior as is her vocal overall. To be honest I really didn't hear whistle high note from Deniece.

@jaypaidincash Cant agree....check out Susaye Greene (who happened to co write Free and MJ's Cant help it) Search for Susaye Greene's Children of the Ghetto....and listen to her G6....super powerful and pure....and also check out another Singer that is not famous at all in the US(although super famous in Europe)A by the name of Cleo Laine singing the old Barbara Streiasand song "On a Clear Day"....super powerful and clear G6 at the end....now Carey can sing a G6 but its thin and squeaky.
