  • This show aired on Monday just to be precise:)

  • "The following program is brought to you in 'Living Color'...on NBC".

  • In This Clip, From 0:00 To 0:32, It Was "Days Of Our Lives" Video Open From September 12, 1966.

  • i see the used a real hourglass then, the one they show now is digital

  • Sexynseedy: Julie in the first scene and said the first words? The first scene of the first show had Alice, Marie and Tony Merritt, didn't it? Frances Reid delivered the first lines of the show.

  • @wannawatchu66 I have read that the first scene was Julie shoplifting.

  • @Rosannasfriend Well, if the first scene, even back then on the first show in November '65, came *before* the opening theme, then you're right...that would make sense. (I'm not really in a position to dispute you as I don't know for sure.)

  • @wannawatchu66 LOL. Its ok no dispute here, I was only born in 1981 so I go by what I've read myself, lol.

  • @Rosannasfriend Oh, I hear ya...my parents and I used to watch back in '76 when characters like Brooke, Michael (Wesley Eure), and others whose names and characters' names I can't recall were on the show...I remember an episode from that era when Dr. Horton was passed over for a promotion to Chief of Staff...ohhhmigoodness, was Alice INCENSED!!! LOL!! Thanks for the memories, Rosannasfriend!! :o)

  • @Rosannasfriend I just remembered a few of their names: Michael (Wesley Eure), who was an item with a blonde named Trish, a blonde guy was with a brunette named Brooke...I remember Robert Clary, who played Frenchman Rober (ro-BARE), and stepped in to be a surrogate father to Rebecca's son (who Rober named "Doug" after Bill Hayes' character, Rober's best friend) after baby Doug's father Johnny walked out on Becca...

    ah, the memories...

  • ok so if Mickey, Bill and Marie were the only ones home in Salem the first year on air, when exactly does Tommy and Addie come home?

  • @entertainme3000 Addie was on original cast & was gone by early 1966 then came back from 1971 to 1974. Tommie came in 1967 until 1972 then again from 1975 to 1979. Bill came later in 1966 & stayed until 1980 with a few appearances since then. Of course Mickey was always there. Marie was on the original cast until 1968 & again from 1970 to 1973, 1977, & 1979 to 1985 with a few appearances since then. The wierd thing is that there are many conflicting stories out there.

  • @entertainme3000 but whats really weird is that the official days original cast list does not list Marie even though she was a vital part of the show and was on every episode every day from the first show til 1968 while it does include addie who was not an integral part of the show and was gone just a few months later. the official original list included 8 people...alice, tom, julie, addie, ben, a detective, tony, and craig. it included the merrit's but not marie, very strange.

  • @entertainme3000 and even crazier....the detective was only on the first 2 shows but was given original cast credit but marie wasnt

  • @entertainme3000 with tom, alice, mickey, addie, & ben dead & marie gone as well as the detective & the merrits julie is now the last remaining original cast member. very sacred & historical considering..she was in the first scene, spoke the first words, was the first breakout character, was the first break out star, was half of the first supercouple, and even made the cover of time magazine in 1976 & is still loved & beloved & important. personally i think Maggie & Julie make the show

  • RIP Frances Reid/ Alice Horton l!! :(

  • so screen gems television originally produced this show. in memory of Frances Reid

  • soapnet showed the first 2 episodes a few years ago on 'Days' 40th anniversary and they were so great. they were in black & white. I think it went to color in 1967. i wanted more so bad. it would be so much better than ryans hope. mcdonald carey was a great classic actor...awesome vioce

  • @sexynseedy actually I heard this was the first soap in color. This could've been through what's known as "kinescope" And the first two days did air in color, it's even on here!

  • @entertainme3000 lol i think the color was just so bad at that time i just thought it was black and white

  • now this is what i call a classic

  • Every one-on-one scene between these two was just perfect--so natural and real. Love how Reid keeps getting distracted when she's pouring milk for him, and Carey getting disappointed when she breaks off. LOL

  • I want to be able to view all the episodes of Days from the beginning whether it be DVD seasons or internet database.

  • this is what soapnet should be airing instead of the crap they air. 'Days' is one of the only soaps that has all episodes saved and archived. the first 20 years were excellent and all about the hortons

  • @sexynseedy absolutely!..SOAPnet is missing the boat with a lot of a things..didn't know DOOL, from the beginning, still exists - hopefully in color as it began, and SOAPnet really should give this more serious consideration - with DOOL and whatever episodes they can come up with whatever else that's been achived!!!!!..if a petition ever starts, PUT MY NAME ON IT!!!

  • @disabled1955 soapnet sucks

  • @disabled1955 I totally agree. NBC does not have early episodes in color (NBC doesn't keep the copies of the episodes, I don'rt think they can) but Sony has ALL episodes in color. That's why DAYS gets those fabulous colorful flashbacks from the 60s and 70s!

  • Great! Love it. More people should watch these videos (now especially). Loved Alice Horton - Francis Reid was a class-act!

  • Rip Frances Reid

  • where did you find this? this is great!

  • I had missed her before she was even gone RIP you were a lovely lady.

  • Oh my God....What a wonderful Tom and Alice scene......love their relationship .....so believable as a long-time married couple. Frances Reid is a joy.

  • i wish i was around back then to enjoy the soaps back then.

  • RIP MacDonald Carey.

  • I miss Frances on Days. . . Things aren't the same without this sweet woman

  • What a long scene of conversation of what real life is like

  • Irna Phillips, the creator of Days, had a thing for making soaps just like real life, and it was even said that her other soaps, like As the world Turns, went slower than real life....

  • Love these old clips...post more if you can! You are a doll!
