It's amazing how easy it seems for him. It's like he's anatomicaly build for playing guitar, just look at his long fingers. Bet he can play the piano aswell :)
You remind me a little tiny bear with that shirt on, I was wondering if you would auction off your cute little clothes....although I'd feel like a sumo wrestler with a wife beater on, you are wonderful.
Can't get enough. I learned to play when I was 50 years old, so I will never do much with it. Young people are just amazing when given the chance and when that chance is coupled with great discipline.........Cheers and I will keep listening... and if you ever come to Vancouver, I will be there......

I despise it when people say he has talent. god could care less if he could play a guitar.
It's the years of hardwork and dedication that made him who he is - at such a young age. Sure, some may argue that he has huge hands, a supportive dad, an ability to play by listening.
But, 2 hours of practice everday - sometimes 3 during the school break.
Seriously, how many of us actually manage to clock 2 hours of practice a week, i mean intently, learning a new song, trying new techniques etc.
Thank you for pointing out Sungha's practice and diligence, and, by implication, his love for what he is doing.
Two hours per day may not sound like much. But, he's been at it at least since 2006. That's well over 4 years. 365 x 4 = 1460 hours. Plus the time spent playing at concerts, recording sessions, radio and TV, conservatory activity, etc etc. And if we assume that by "practice" we mean real work, not sitting in front of the TV with the guitar in your lap...
that's exactly right, theres some places talent cant take you. and we're witnessing an incredible phenomena blossoming right this moment. just imagine where Sungha'd be in 5 year time.
it is said that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to reach world-class, or an expert in any field. (go google that.) I'd say, Sungha Jung is getting pretty close by the day.
My math was incomplete in my initial post. 365 days per year times 4 years equals 1460 days. An average of 2 hours per day equals 2920 hours, which is exactly twice what I labeled in my first post. I apologize for this.
Still, the main point is unchanged: that Sungha's years of practice represents long term love, devotion, and dedication to music, and the guitar.
@totorohelmet What are you talking about?? Ofcourse God has definite part in Sungha's great talent! Sungha's mom mentions on one interview that she new right away that Sungha had a special ability/talent when his playing improved drastically within a month of playing the guitar at such young age. Without any little talent, practicing 2-3 hrs does not make everyone play like Sungha! Sounds like you have some issues with God ?...
issues with God? And when did God came into the equation? Right it was your post, not mine.
I see you are implying that Sungha Jung came to where he is by sheer talent alone. Sure talent comes into play. I'm not undermining his talent or ability for music. But let's not forget about his hard work in practicing diligently, shall we?
I've been following Sungha, but I don't know about any interview with Sungha's mum, nor can I recall any.
But heck, a month of 3 hours a day equates to 90 hours of practice, I could improve drastically myself without any talent whatsoever involved. I mean, do you seriously think he WAS born to know how to play the guitar? NO.
I was looking for the same for quite some time! Turns out that 'Unforgettable' in German is 'Unvergesslich' and can be found on his 'Solo' (2010?) album. If you have access to Spotify, it's on there. A truly wonderful song and a fantastic rendition from Sungha.

I'm a huge a fan of Sungha but I don't know if it's really ok all the sponsoring and giving money thing. If Sungha really is really talented like wek he is, just let him play and learn like he wants, don't try to turn him into something else. All the great guitar player never used that, and I think it is the right path. Want to learn more? Travel all around the world and play your music in the streets, and then go home and write us an amazing solo album.
I thik the sponsorship it's for travel around the world ... plane ticket are expensive ans he need to travel with the father I guees and even a translator ... if anybody wan't to give him the tickets ( not necesaryly the money) why not?
I read your recent addition to your site, where you announced your search for a sponsor to aid in financing the development of Sungha's education and career as a professional musician.
My heart is broken because I am not able to contribute. Your cause is the most worthy I have heard of in years. May God be with you and your family in your search.
Your son and his music are loved by thousands all over the world. I pray that some will be moved.
They are called 'Alaska Piks'. They are sort of a plastic 'shield' that goes over the nail. Sungha uses them on his thumb and his first three fingers.
They are really good for fingerstyle guitarists who are always concerned about their nails. Like me :-)
Sungha uses four fingerpicks: one each on the thumb, forefinger, middle finger, and ring finger of his right hand.
On some of his older videos, he uses no picks. During an appearance on Korean TV a year or so ago, the host of the show examined Sungha's fingertips and said that they were heavily calloused, like the hands of a martial arts master.
I have no way of knowing if Sungha is trying to reverse that condition, or simply trying to improve the sound of his playing.
Foxy, as a techinical player, you get a chrisper sound with picks. If you ever get to see spanish "Flamenco" guitarists, they have long finger nails on their picking hand, just the same as having picks. :)
he didn't get this good like the pici. He picked up music himself through audio sources and tried learning. He only learned through profesional teachers when he got famous.
I used to not have tabs for the music that I played in my videos. I just listen and pick them up directly from the sound source in videos available on the internet. However, recently, I have started playing with original tabs whenever they are available to me by courtesy of the authors.
For those who post in Korean using Google translate:
It is very kind of you to post in Korean, but Google translate does a terrible job in translation and the resulting Korean rarely, if ever, makes sense. It would be much easier to post in English instead.
Fantastic as always! Is it me or is everyone else holding their breath hoping for Sungha Jung to bring us his rendition of the famous "Malagueña" by Ernesto Lecuona? Tis a very difficult piece, to be sure.
An excellent suggestion. It's difficult, as you say; there is no doubt in my mind that Sungha could master it within a week or 10 days.
The list of songs that sound beautiful on a guitar if done properly is a long one. I'd like to hear his version of 'Yellow Bird', 'Cindy, Oh Cindy', and 'Gavotte in D', just to name three. It's impossible to play all the songs that deserve to be played, even for him.
Helo Sungha!!! I'll like to send for you one song played in acoustic guitar that i minded that was you played it. If was not you , what do you think to learn it???
You are the best accoustic guitar player I have ever heard. It is such a pleasure to listen to you play. The feeling you put into your playing, WOW. You can feel your music. well your fingers over time grow into it, also they grow callouses which would take the hurt away that you may be experiencing. the finger pick's just allow for more clarity in the strings he plucks.
it is obvious that he truly understands what he plays.. he is a genuine musician. he is creating rather than replicating.. it is unbelievable how an 11 year old can have such an enormous capacity
I can only hope to be as good as little sungha T.T

i need to get me some finger picks cuz my fingers hurt after a while from playing
TC102Lee 3 years ago 2
it happens to me too! but when you practice more and more, it wont happen again TC102Lee

well your fingers over time grow into it, also they grow callouses which would take the hurt away that you may be experiencing. the finger pick's just allow for more clarity in the strings he plucks.

yeah i got them too for that reason ^^ metal ones cuz you can 'mold' them to the shape of your finger.

Ian447 is a troll and incompetent one at that. Just ignore the attention-deprived freak.

it is obvious that he truly understands what he plays.. he is a genuine musician. he is creating rather than replicating.. it is unbelievable how an 11 year old can have such an enormous capacity
