Lane leaving Tennessee and taking his crew was all worth it to me since a majority of those Vol fans sold out and jumped on other band wagons when they couldn't take the heat of a bad season. recruiting is only one fraction of coaching. a lot of people seem to forget that in this day and age of rivals 24/7 recruiting.

Anybody can recruit. Coaching is another story. The jury is still out on this guy.

good point, but not everybody can recruit. if that were the case the same schools wouldn't be on top every year (USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, etc.)

surrounding yourself with great coaches is just as important as being a great coach yourself, and he's already done that. even if he's only an average coach right now (not saying I think he's average), he's only going to get better by coaching with the guys he is now.

UT was expected to get blown out by UF in 2009 as soon as they were killed by UF in 2008. It didn't matter if Fulmer was still coaching or if they hired someone other than Kiffin, they were not and are not expected to compete this year. As it is, the only way UT will compete with UF in the near future is with stronger recruiting. Kiffin managed to steal elite talents from UF, LSU, and Miami with those publicity stunts. So far he's done all he can to improve the program, and it's worked so far

Half of Tennessee stinks right now. Though the offense is one of the worst in the nation, the Tennessee defense is the 6th best defense in the nation. Also, UT doesn't "suck at the game of football" as you put it. Every school goes through a down time in any sport. UT has won many SEC titles and won the first BCS National Championship in '98. Right now is just a down time for the school like every school has at some point.
