Jennifer did turn the tables on Monica though at the 2001 Australian Open quarterfinals she really exposed Monica's lack of food speed and movement. Jennifer ran Monica ragged all over the court and of course made her comeback by winning the Australian Open.
@JordanjamesX for your info Seles' foot injury was causing her all sorts of shit in the 2001 aussie open, hence why she couldn't move that well, yes capriati does move better in general but if seles was not injured she prob would have won, anyway she beat capriati twice after that in the same year!!!!!!!
If it wasn't for that terrible stabbing incident in Hamburg, Monica could still be playing today! What a Shame! She is Still my favorite female tennis player of all time!!

In Australia 01 Seles lost a big lead vs Jen, she had to miss the 02 FO that Jen won, and the 02 Australian Seles ran into on fire Hingis while Jen ran into crappy choking Hingis. And I felt Venus, Davenport, even younger Serena (game wise) were all much better than Capriati around then. Amazing she won 3 out of 5 slams then somehow.

I think Monica still had the shots but not the nerve. Monica's fitness in the second half of her career was her weakness. Monica just didn't have the "conviction" and "KILLER INSTINCT" she once had. The weight gain really curtailed Seles career she got tired in three set matches and she faded in the end of her career. It is a sad end to a great career.
Monica went out to Serena in three sets that year in the quarters! If she had been in better shape, she may have had a good shot to win it and then who knows what?

I never really got to watch much of her matches because I figure she would always be around... But she is gone and I miss her so much!! Same here - I guess I was always in denial about Monica retiring one day, and now it's happened. There will never be another athlete like that... ever.
