That pitch modulation is the FM or Frequency Modulation part of the sound. There is also AM or Amplitude Modulation. The sound raises an lowers in volume as well as the sound goes toward your ears and away from your ears.
The mix of FM and AM is not possible in a Univibe or other phase shifter, chorus or flanger. Even if the effect is modeled well, it can't recreate the sound bouncing off the walls, floor and around the room, like the real thing.
Exactly! The nature of the reflections depend on the room and are so complex that not even modelling software could properly recreate them and even then it would be an emulation of the recorded sound. Nothing can simulate actually being in the room with one of these.
I love the vibrotone rotary deals and yours sounds wonderful. I was wondering if you could do me a favor and check out my "blues guitar" video. I have my Leslie 18 running in some parts of the video. I love the thing but I was curious to see what a vibratone owner would think of it overall. I don't really ever meet many folks that actually run Leslie cabs in their rig.
Thanks!! i think that you're referring to the Vibroverb amps that he was using as well. these were made from '63 to '64 (Blackface era) and had a single 15" speaker. the Vibratone (67-72) made after the Blackface era. these are nothing more than a Leslie 16 with different cosmetic. that's the swirly sound you hear in "Cold Shot".
"Dunlop Uni~Vibe and controller pedal ".Robin Trower uses one as did Jimi Hendrix lexist7.Though the sound isn't as sweet as a Vibratone it does kind of emulate the Doppler Effect that the VT and Leslie are both known for.Just a far cheaper way of going about it.
I agree. nothing beats a Leslie... and roadies ;) a Uni-Vibe is a great effect by itself, and being an Hendrix freak i love using it, but for those Clapton/Harrison/Gilmour tones a Leslie is still the best.
Difficile de se rendre compte avec la compression de YT... mais, même si avec ton TC tu gères bien l'affaire, je pense aussi que le Vibratone est bien plus riche!... et puis surtout ça prend pas de place! lol
Fender used molded styrofoam to make the rotor for this guy's speaker, so you might be able to cannibalize a micro amp speaker and fashion your own rotor out of some foam.

Robert Groove66,

I plan on doing a formal review soon for it.
Thanks for your time.

CBS owns/owned Leslie as well as Fender.
So they just combined them a bit I suppose ;P
Neclord2000 2 years ago
yeah, a Vibratone is nothing more and a Leslie 16 with new cosmetics.

I actually have a vibratone but it has a different front than yours.

@robertgroove66 the roto vibe is pretty decent but nothing compared to a vibratone

don't know, but i think Hammond has just release a small one just for guitar.

now that i remember, i think the Little Lanilei amp is a vibratone micro-clone
