Some VK bands, & emphasis on "some" -im not trying to start a flame war- use the style to gain attention & fan base. The majority of these bands are indie. Once they gain their popularity &break into the mainstream, they usually tone down the VK styling or drop it. An example is Dir en Grey. That's not to say they all do this. Kisaki (Ex-Dir en Grey, Ex-Mago, etc), prefers to stay indie &has been VK for a long time. Its not uncommon to see VK bands drop the Styling as they get more popular
