Maher is a huge hypocrite! His "faith" that there is no God is really no more sensible nor ridiculous than those who do believe in God. Obviously he has never bothered to read any writings considered sacred, non of the teaching of an historical figure considered sacred. If he says he has then he's either a liar or just stupid since he misses the the teaching of importance of brotherhood, acceptance, and forgiveness, values which many atheists seem to want freedom from.

I took a neutral stance pointing out how Maher does nothing but preach Hate to people like you who will follow the word of anyone trendy or "cool". No, it's more sensible. By all means, believe what you'd like. But drawing rigid conclusions from the ether, or a very old game of telephone, and drawing malleable ones from what is actually observable are not on par with one another. That is a myth and it would not fly in any practical realm of modern human problem solving, nor would most theists want it to.

I attempted to take a neutral stance, but if you must know, I have read the Bible and appreciate it for its lessons. Jesus, Gandhi, MLK, men who have tried to teach us how to just get along. Don't lie, don't steal, don't kill, respect each other. How is that not sensible? My original point is that Maher spreads hate and the division of people for entertainment and ratings.

@sheklikak No, your point was that atheism is a "faith" and that it's no more logically valid than faith in a god. Atheism is not a faith, it's simply the theological outlook of many who place value in molding conclusions to evidence, rather than molding the evidence to our conclusions. If one is to place faith over logic, there's not much argument to be had - that's one's prerogative. But reaching conclusions without evidence is, by definition, less logical/reasonable/sensible.

@Lono5885 "Faith" in parenthesis. My intent was that to imply that just as one has faith that God exist, one also has faith that he doesn't - faith that there is no hell to burn in, so to speak. I can see where this is perhaps an arguable use of the word, but my original intent of its use was to lay the foundation of what I contest to be my original point.

1) Single Payer would never pass, since we couldn't even get the public option to pass

2) We required a lot of insurance companies, by requiring them to take on pre existing conditions and other measures, which they think are too expensive.

3) Should we let thousands, if not millions, to suffer without any reform just because it's not good enough for you yet?

@oneiroi I see your point, I really do. But the insurance companies will find, and I'm sure probably already have found in some cases, a way around the pre-existing condition problem. My point is that "obamacare" is no great leap forward, it is more of the same. A gift to an industry that has extremely powerful lobbyists. Yes, I would have preferred nothing over what we got. That's just me. And I speak as a uninsured person.

Thousands and millions will continue to suffer under this reform still.

What was the alternative?

I don't see what doing nothing would have helped. And if Repubs repeal, we can see. We couldn't do everything so we did something. In this political climate, I'm just thankful.
