I have read it, and heard some other parts .. i think the review is much more miserable than it's view of the production - aside prudishness and negative opinion about RHO's funding and pricing policies, it does not say anything else intelligible or worth a second thought - if she has problems with Schaefer (just how did they get her!?) , who would she like? maybe Netrbko - she sounds POed oever speding the monly on the ticket (?!) ... is she a real reviewer!? - would not say so!
Interesting production from ROH by David Mcvicar. The Duke's court is supposed to be decadent, licentious and brutal;nothing 'pretty' or artistic needed. So this seems to capture the correct atmosphere. Singing is nothing special.
You know, some may find it vulgar, but this is indeed viable, at least in my eyes. IT is not classical, and it won't be for everyone, but it is by no means a disgrace to a high brow work, Rigoletto has a great deal of sexuality and ugliness in it. What I don't like is the bad sound quality and the use of microphones and some of the inconsistent singing throughout
Alvarez pierde la concentracion en su canto en Questa o quella y algunas notas no salen tan bien...... bueno, quién podría culparlo!,jajjajajaja

Erotic and exciting but the vocal is miserable. Good for TV watcher generations who want to see everything.

If the voice is so miserable why is he invited to sing on some of the great stages? Are all those Met or La Scala or Paris managers incompetents?

Perharps the most intelligent production of 'Rigoletto' I've ever seen.
Don't miss this dvd.
