@darkregin2 Earthbound Zero has Giegue that was defeated by Ninten and then said that they would meet again. They never did meet again but he did team up with Pokey/Porkey and became Giegas and got defeated by Ness. Which then Pokey time traveled into the future and became Porkey. He now can never die, but he is locked up in a absulote safe copsule after he was defeated by Lucas.

I always considered Mother 2 to be a sequel to Mother 1 but the Mother 2 story is from a different continuity (i.e. dimension or universe) to the 1st game and that Mother 3 was a sequel to Mother 2 a couple hundred years into the future does that make sense!!

i'd honestly prefer a legitimately fun boss. i like this and like if you had to fight an actual boss like in earthbound it would be cool but you're like going through the entire game and then you fight a glorified cutscene D:

That's not the point. The point is to give meaning to the final boss. THAT'S why you sing. It gives a point and a drive to the final boss. Think about it, would you rather fight in the traditional RPG final boss where you kill it and that's it? OR would you rather fight a boss, not cause death AS A LITTLE KID, cause the alien to suffer psychological pain, and then go away?
but this game goes against those previous conventions to stray from the norm and make something more emotionally appealing. and might i add is quite moving if you look at the story instead of the mindless fighting.
Gieque became Giygas. Mother 1 actualy takes place a while before Earthbound so even thou they faced Giygas in the past they still faced him after the events in Mother 1. O and the "nightmare gas" was what happened to his physical form after it was torn apart by his own evil.
Giygas would have to have been sent into the past in that case probibly for save keeping, If it were not for the events in Mother he would have never turned into that form.

That would explain why Giygas said all those strange things during the fight, cause hispowers are hurting him. So in my opinion, Giygas wasn't aborted, he was given a mercy killing.
In earthbound a bug escapes from the future and tells ness about the apocalypse that there will be over 10 years. Ness travels back in time and defeats giygas as a ''infant'' but that means that he travels back in time before the events of Mother. becaus he is not a baby in Mother. And that means that the events of Mother never took place. though Mother takes place before earthbound. Someone can explain this?
That's only if you go with the theory that Ness was destroying a fetus Giygas. A theory that makes a disturbing amount of sense, but isn't supported by the canon. As presented, after the events of Mother, Giygas flees, travels back to the distant past, absorbs the dark power and becomes the nightmare that you must battle in Earthbound. So the events of Mother still take place.
Is anybody else incredibly bothered by the abortion theory? Not bothered in a "it makes a disturbing amount of sense" way but because it just goes against the spirit of the games on some very fundamental level. It's just really weird to me that anyone who calls themselves fan of the series would choose to believe in Ness and his friends hurting and killing an innocent form of Giygas instead of Ness and his friends conquering a nightmarish villain through the powers of friendship and love.
I too, am bothered by the abortion theory. For one thing Giygas was defeated through prayer, not just Paula's but everyone's (even the player's, apparently!).
So unless Paula is a dark priestess that channels people's energy into a mega-psychic-abortion shock wave of utter doom, Ill stick with the story that gigyas went back in time to gather evil energy and ness and his crew went back to defeat it before the task was completed
Well that is the official story, so it's worth sticking to instead of going on crazy cynical time paradox prayer fueled abortion speculation rampages. :P
Its all a matter of perspective really, Giygas was an "infant" Only in mind. You have to understand, he got so much power his mind and body couldn't handle it. If you want a prime example of what im talking about, look at what happened to Tetsuo at the end of Akira (film)
Also, EB's Giygas isn't evil, just misunderstood.... Like Godzilla... I guess. He just wanted to be friends with Ness (Ness's face shown was a greeting, perhaps.) and co., if only he would've accepted, sigh.
My Theory: Giygas was still fetal in an incubator-ish deal, but when he was born, he looked as he does here, and could only be stopped by the song. Sooooo... in chronological order... the Mother series is... backwards????
Well Ninten is the name of the main character in this game. Alot of opinion and theory lean towards Ninten being Ness's father in earthbound for the SNES however that's only speculation. That would mean Ness finishes the job his father couldn't finish in the first mother game, which also leads some to believe That Ninten (Dad in Earthbound) was so gung-ho in wanting his son to keep fighting. Think about it.

18. During the time in between EB and M3, humans escaped to an island, the world was in peril. The residents completely wipe their memories of the terrors that they had seen and start anew, one of the residents get's to keep his memories of the terrors of the earth.
19. Lucas starts his adventure.
20. Porky time traveled from EB to M3, due to an abuse of his powers he has become bed-ridden and in a near death stage, however he has gained immortality. He carriers over the same childish mentality

He studied their technology and used it to build Eve (she specifically refers to George as her creator) and the underwater base. Think about it, this was a regular man from the EARLY 1900s, so any advanced technology that he had was obviously inspired by what he’d seen on the mother ship.
im about to buy a reproduction of this cartridge (and super mario bros 2, the jap one) for play it on my old NES... i just loved so much the Mother/Earthbound series, its maybe one of the best and most underated series of all time... Nintendo, Hear us!! we want Mother on America!!
Although this game isn't as cherished as the other two games (for legitimate reasons), I thought it was good, albeit not amazing.
That said, I would absolutely kill for a Mother/Earthbound Zero remake. They could revamp a few things whilst keeping the story intact.
And if Ninten gets a new, fresh look, perhaps he could join Ness and Lucas in Smash Bros. as the third Mother rep. I would love that - make it happen, Nintendo.
Aside from that, I always loved the bosses in this series. ^^

In earthbound a bug escapes from the future and tells ness about the apocalypse that there will be over 10 years. Ness travels back in time and defeats giygas as a ''infant'' but that means that he travels back in time before the events of Mother. becaus he is not a baby in Mother. And that means that the events of Mother never took place. though Mother takes place before earthbound. Someone can explain this?

That's only if you go with the theory that Ness was destroying a fetus Giygas. A theory that makes a disturbing amount of sense, but isn't supported by the canon. As presented, after the events of Mother, Giygas flees, travels back to the distant past, absorbs the dark power and becomes the nightmare that you must battle in Earthbound. So the events of Mother still take place.

Is anybody else incredibly bothered by the abortion theory? Not bothered in a "it makes a disturbing amount of sense" way but because it just goes against the spirit of the games on some very fundamental level. It's just really weird to me that anyone who calls themselves fan of the series would choose to believe in Ness and his friends hurting and killing an innocent form of Giygas instead of Ness and his friends conquering a nightmarish villain through the powers of friendship and love.

I too, am bothered by the abortion theory. For one thing Giygas was defeated through prayer, not just Paula's but everyone's (even the player's, apparently!).
So unless Paula is a dark priestess that channels people's energy into a mega-psychic-abortion shock wave of utter doom, Ill stick with the story that gigyas went back in time to gather evil energy and ness and his crew went back to defeat it before the task was completed

Its all a matter of perspective really, Giygas was an "infant" Only in mind. You have to understand, he got so much power his mind and body couldn't handle it. If you want a prime example of what im talking about, look at what happened to Tetsuo at the end of Akira (film)

My theory on Giygas development;
1:as he is in EB
2:straightens out like a tadpole and whitens while head changes shape
3:sprouts legs while head completes its transformation
4:gradually loses tail while face takes shape
5:face is completed while Pokey reads anti-parenting books
6:TADA!!! A slimy mewto-looking thing slides out of that nasty hole that previously showed Ness's face.

Well Ninten is the name of the main character in this game. Alot of opinion and theory lean towards Ninten being Ness's father in earthbound for the SNES however that's only speculation. That would mean Ness finishes the job his father couldn't finish in the first mother game, which also leads some to believe That Ninten (Dad in Earthbound) was so gung-ho in wanting his son to keep fighting. Think about it.

There are a lot of theories that Giegue is Giygas, but it was never fully proved.
And Poky was named Porky in Mother 3 because he changed it to match his Pig mask army.

Ok.... time for facts:
1. Guigue/gGiygas/gyig are all the same alien!
2. Guigue/gGiygas/gyig's alien race abducted a couple from Earth in the 1900's
3. Guigue/gGiygas/gyig was under the care of Maria and George (the abducted couple).
4. Maria treated Guigue/gGiygas/gyig like it was her own child and sang to Guigue/gGiygas/gyig when he was a baby.
5. George stoled vital information from the aliens and escaped to earth [The information was the PSI powers].

@GlennAoyama You forgot the part about how Giegue/Giygas/gyig cannot fully comprehend human emotions but can still feel them thanks to Maria, and because of this, it damages his psyche (mental state) which in turn damages him physically because of his reliance on psi. Humans cannot understand Giygas/Guigue/gyig's power because they do not and cannot know the full potential if Psi. That is why when Ninten(do) sings the song, he can feel human emotions, but cannot understand them, thus hurting Him

George’s study of PSI was merely incidental, as his time on the mother ship was probably also his first time seeing PSI, BUT PSI was already on Earth for a thousand or so years before George’s trip, because the Ancient Scarabians use it… the fact that the Garrison baby also knows PSI makes it very apparent that PSI is a natural ability and has nothing to do with the aliens.

He studied their technology and used it to build Eve (she specifically refers to George as her creator) and the underwater base. Think about it, this was a regular man from the EARLY 1900s, so any advanced technology that he had was obviously inspired by what he’d seen on the mother ship.

Although this game isn't as cherished as the other two games (for legitimate reasons), I thought it was good, albeit not amazing.
That said, I would absolutely kill for a Mother/Earthbound Zero remake. They could revamp a few things whilst keeping the story intact.
And if Ninten gets a new, fresh look, perhaps he could join Ness and Lucas in Smash Bros. as the third Mother rep. I would love that - make it happen, Nintendo.
Aside from that, I always loved the bosses in this series. ^^
