Don't Waste Your Retirement by John Piper part 1

What a load of drivel! God is a figment of the imaginations of people who are afraid to accept the fact that dead is dead - nothing more! If God existed he would, taking in to account the state of the world, be on a par with Pol Pot or Idi Amin. People like Piper who attempt to force their idiot views on others make me puke.

Yea, john piper doesn't have to retire because he has plenty of money coming in from books, tithe and his ministry. All his video footage and books are glamourous just like the world. Piper loves suffering. Whip my back theology so god wont kick my ass in hell. I think retirement is god's way of rewarding us for the 3/4 of our lives spent putting up with crappy jobs so we can provide for our families.

First off: John Piper doesn't see a dime from his books because he writes off the royalties so they go straight into his non-profit ministry (from which he also doesn't get paid). He does this because he's afraid of what that amount of money (millions) could do to his outlook on life and eternal perspective.

Second: What kind of reward is retirement? God is not interested in giving us a couple entertaining years before we die. He's interested in giving us eternal life. And eternal life will not be given to those who selfishly become lazy and do their own thing while not making a difference in the world and lives of others because it does not honor the Lord.

If retirement is how god rewards his people, what of the people that die before retirement? Or only enjoy it a couple years? If that's what they lived for then that will be the ONLY reward they get in this life and in eternity. That's a tragedy.

Yea, I know he doesn't get every cent from his books, but how is he living so prosperous?(well off) Tithe from his Bethlehem Church? C'mon you know he has temptations from money and is justifying making money from somewhere. I don't mean to bash all preachers, I just hate hypocrisy. I think retirement CAN be a little reward in most cases. Not all obviously. God gives little rewards here and there in life. Old people can't save the world in there condition(ailments) C'mon there burnt out. Rest!!

Why do you say he is so prosperous? As far as retirement goes, the Bible makes it abundantly clear (especially Paul) that anything not done for Christ is a waste. Retirement is not inherently evil-just a mind that is focused on oneself or the world. If a person is retired but still looks everyday to honor the Lord (in small or big ways) then he is NOT wasting his life. That's what Piper is saying and the Bible backs that up.

Yea, God will have final judgment, but we are still excused. As far as "brood of vipers" verse did you look up the word hell to see what in means? As much as you want to quote scriptures that say the word hell, you still have to question it's existence in the old testament like I wrote before. If life is all about an eternal destination it has to be littered in the bible just about every other verse, paragraph and overall topic in a book of the bible. That is what a caring god would do clearly

Tragic eternity? Hell does not exist. the bible says HELL, but when you look up the words interpreted to hell they are Shoel, Hades and ghenna. None of these words imply or mean a eternal torturous hell. They mean state of the dead(Shoel, Hades) or jerusalem's city dump(ghenna) Look it up yourself if you do not believe me. Where was God's warning of hell to Adam, the israelites, David in his sin or any of the old testament? That is pretty lazy of god to not scream it in every other verse.

If hell does not exist than what's the eternal alternative to heaven? What's all this talk about the final judgment? Why does God say to the Pharisees: "You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell?" If you take hell (or the idea of eternal condemnation) out of the Bible then there is no reason for abstaining from sin. The cross and resurrection is pointless. Salvation is moot and God is not just.

There is no alternative. You do not need hell to abstain from sin. You serve god primarily because you want what christ stands for. Not out of fear of hell. If you serve God out of fear of hell(if hell existed) he will see your false worship and still send you to hell."worship in spirit and in TRUTH" The cross wasn't pointless. That was how he forgave THE WHOLE WORLD.(No hell) God is just in forgiving who he wants. Christ taking our punishment is not just, but god did it. That is amazing.
