lol, this video. if the guy who made this video has to ask, he is probably talking to a confused believer. a firm believer has the answer for any question, or at least an anology that gets the point across. i would ask the same to an atheist/anti-christ.
@FluffyFeralMarmot sometimes they have to ask this question, i had to while debating a creationist who refused to even look at the evidence i presented which supported evolution. some people are so afraid of questioning their own ideas they refuse to examine both sides. then i saw that it was not worth my time to debate this person and i sent him on his way
@FluffyFeralMarmot the same can be said of anyone, note that i said "some people" and not "some creationists", this man started the conversation and then would not note any of the evidence i presented, so he would not have to question his own faith.im just trying to point out that not all atheists are arrogant, some just have to ask this question to see if a debate with a creationist is worth their time. as a free thinker, i require evidence, faith is not enough.
@bagman234 "A wicked and perverse generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days and nights, so shall the son of man be in the heart of the earth."
Im not an athiest in the strictest sense, nor am I a monotheist. but I usually get the best by acting like an asshole. The true believers will spout the same BS while those who still have the faculty of reason will not.
I really like this. For someone to answer yes they must let go of every belief they hold dear and then critically reassess them. When I learned to do that it became incredibly eye opening.
I don't really understand why the question is better for anything else than a simple first pass. People who want to argue with you will always say yes, but it's usually just lipservice.
I really like this video, I have had conversations where I have had religious people admit that their religion was illogical and man made, but they could not accept the life shattering realization of it. They ended up just leaving, and continuing in their religion, because they were unable to handle it.
Atheists generally are not faith based and are willing to accept SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN explanations. A random ancient book that says it was written by a wizard that lives in the sky is not sufficient scientific proof.
To which my reply would be - certainly! As I do not have any 'cherished beliefs' to begin with!
There's this one little catch that a number of religious folk can't quite get clear of: I require, like any rational thinker, demonstrable evidence that my "beliefs" are false. Hearsay, ungrounded assertions, and ancient storybooks need not apply.
@sarabellumm i don't think we atheists have "cherished beliefs" per se. so definately, we want the truth. and if the truth is that there is some god out there, i think most of us would be fascinated and would have a million questions. i dont think most of us have a vested interested in there not being a god and wouldnt be crushed if it turned out there really was :)
I believe there is an invisible tentacle monster who lives in the centre of the earth, and with it's tentacles it pulls every object to the ground. That way we don't fall into the sky!
There is no scientific evidence that it DOESN'T exist, so therefore, it must exist! If only more people saw the truth the way I have seen it, then the tentacle monster won't kill us all when the world ends!
I've been thinking about that question a lot lately and I'm definitely going to consider using it from now on. I agree there is no point to continuing if they answer no, but I also think a lot of people who say yes will be lying.

I'd turn the question back on the asker: what is it you're hiding about yourself that you can't face?
FluffyFeralMarmot 1 year ago
@FluffyFeralMarmot you assume the asker is hiding something rather than just trying to have a debate?

@bagman234 Arrogance is usually a shield or overcompensation for something.

The same can be said for many atheists.
