The gays had Key West in 1978, I was there. Divine also lived there and Sylvester came to visit Divine regularly. Since us gays basically had the island to ourselves, it was a huge party. The clubs would play this song constantly when he was in town, and he would be out on the dance floor with the rest of us. On one of these visits, Sylvester walked out of the club drunk with Divine and started singing this song walking down street, with Divine dancing. The crowd went wild. Oh, those memories!
You just clarified something for me: I have the Step II cassette version, one of the first U.S. commecial cassettes I ever bought. The mix from the U.S. cassette of "Mighty Real" is probably the one most recognized. Plus, worh of note, is the lineup of the album's song selections on cassette is different than that of the vinyl album. Lastly, in (West) Germany, where I was stationed at the time, Fantasy Records distributor GEMA pressed Sylverster 12" disco singles and albums on PINK VINYL!
Wow thanks so much for uploading. I seen a segment about him on VH1 and how he died of AIDS. I really like this song and think everyone should expose themselves to all decades of music.Just because something is 30 or 40 years old...dosen't make it any less hott!!
I heard this in Milk today :D ♥

If you are a straight male, fear this song. When those hips start moving, you will lose control and be gay for ever more.

@rinaldi101 - It was 1978 - I watched him sing it, and watched him dance to it in a club down the street from my house.
