In Kansas City, the Italians, Jews and Irish store owners, stood on top of their stores downtown and shot at the hordes of angry, black rioters. It wasn't that much different than how Kansas City was in 1868, when Jesse James was alive.
MLK the Jew trained Communist...Fucking Juden always stirring up trouble wherever they go. Thanks to these Jews we now live in a near 3rd world country with non-whites swaming over our White lands. Go back to your shit holes and we will mail you these Communist Jews when you get back.
So post MLK assassination it was my niggas flarin nostrils, chewing chicken wangs, and kickin doe's in, and throwing stereos through store windows, just because there leader died doesn't mean they need to go Ape
Vietnam I look at as a draw, the NVA and VC were fought to a stalemate and they only defeated South Vietnam, in the end South Vietnam did itself in. But the Sixties were a different time, but the activists and everyone need to learn that this is 2011 not 1968, the world is a far different and far more dangerous place.
Many had their hearts in the right place but those who decided that becoming no better then those they claimed be against will always be a stain on that generation
1968 was pretty much the worse year with RFK, MLK getting shot. The blacks rioting, the war in Vietnam and protests. Then then Nixon gets elected and has to deal with the mess. I mean you felt as if there was going to be a race war and America would implode. Thankfully it never did.

Cronkite? He had no problem when, flying with bomber crews as a journalist over Europe in WW2, we deliberately targeted civilian populations with incendiary and high explosive bombs, trying to decimate their homes and break their will. He had no problem carrying water for the FDR "Good War" mantra, Dresden and Hamburg (not to mention Tokyo) be damned. He, like many others were perhaps mired in a construct of their earlier years, unable to adapt to new ideological concepts of conflict.
it;s too bad the military-industrial complex had JFK assassinated, there almost definetely would have absolutely no vietnam war if that had never happened
Listen all you hippies who think war is completely unneccesary. This great country that you live in (U.S) was built on war and on the blood of your ancestors. Now, I think everyone would love to live in a passive war-free world, but then again, this is the real world and your "civil rights and freedom" wouldnt be here if it wasnt for those soldiers. People tend to forget that freedom is a "privilage" as well as a "right".
Pat Buchanan (aide to Nixon-what an accomplishment!) "disagreed" with McCarthy about the war? Well, let's give ol' Pat a point for consistency: Apparently, he's always been WRONG!!!
Americans killed so many civillians in vietnam..... its is insane how such a self-richeous nation, who thinks it is outside regular history (America is blessed by god?) could echieve such mischief in its quest of world domination.
Every time is see US soldiers, in a third world country murdering, raping, and destroying, I feel nothing but anger, and want to just eat and rip them apart till there is nothing left.
@lobohaybusa how often have you been to a third world country with US Soldiers and watched them murder, rape or destroy anything and why did you just watch?
Well I am from El Salvador, and witnessed my family members being blown up, or disappearing only to find there tortured mutilated body the next day, which was done US sponsored troops, trained by US Generals, and giving the Government which was a military dictatorship Millions of dollars spent to send in more guns, bombs, helicopters, and men to come in try to wipe out the poor, who were only trying to get equal rights, and to stop the human rights violations that were going on.
@lobohaybusa I am sorry about your loss of family, but civil wars are like that. And every one in the US has lost a family member due to our own civil war. However sponsorship is not ownership.
And also the stories from others who suffered around the world, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, all of Latin America, and anywhere around the world, and if you think they are lieing or im lieing, than you better open your eyes, that soliders have no meaning on this planet except to cause terror and death, and if they weren`t they should go in with out guns, and problem solve and think of the solution to fix the problem, what a wonderful world we would have a finally sane, but we are not.
@lobohaybusa I was in Iraq taking care of people blown up, however they were blown up by other iraqians just like in El Salvidor. El Salvidor people killing other El Salvidor people. And if I would have been deployed there I would be taking care of them also. The US did not start your Civil War. US soldiers did not kill your family. El Salvadorians did. Some soldiers train to heal not kill. Sincerely PROUD AMERICAN SOLDIER.

So, was the Tet Offensive a military defeat for the US? No. It was a disaster for the Communist. Although the US was initially surprised, the Communist were quickly contained and routed, suffering massive casualties. But you would never know it from this video.
We won every battle in Vietnam but lost the war in the PRESS. Thanks a lot Walter! Thanks NPR for continuing the mis-information!
Wow, you sound exactly like the Nazis here in Germany after loosing against the Russians. The problem isnt ,that the US lost. It is ,that the war was unjust, cruel and oppressing !
The French had their colony in Vietnam but the Vietnamese wanted their freedom and fought 10(!!) years against the french for their independence. The fight was lead by Ho Chi Minh.
The problem for the US was, that the Vietnamese would elect the communistic Ho Chi Minh in a democratic election. Therefor the US-government created (LIKE EVERYTIME)
a reason for war- a lie. Than the US-Army bombed Vietnam to Stoneage.
Twain advised to never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. But I'm still compelled to try; I get tired of the consistent myth that the US is always evil, that it's always our fault.
The situation was not as simple as you describe; history is never that black and white. But you're missing the point; I'm not arguing whether the war was good or bad. I'm simply pointing out that Walter and NPR continue to spread mis-information.
How much objective research do you have to do to see that we lost over 50,000 men in Vietnam for nothing? So by "thought with emotion" etc. you mean that you stood up for freedom in the 60s and as soon as you had a good job and kids you sold them out for stability and a sense of accomplishment? Good job, pops. Thanks for the police state and the terrible state of liberty today. The sooner your hypocritical generation dies off, the better.
@trektune I have done OBJECTIVE research, I am a degreed historian.1.USA rejected reunification after Independence due to fear that Ho Chi Minh would win DEMOCRATIC elections.2.Ho Chi Minh, after WWII appealed to USA because of American ideals of independence, rejected.3.USA propped up Diem, a fascist, in South Vietnam against Ho.4.USA used more explosive power on Vietnam than every belligerent in WWII combined including both atomic bombs.5. KBR seemed to profit from the war so it wasn't all bad
@TripsAplenty Not sure I understand your points. What does the quantity of explosive power have to do with the discussion? From what university do you have your history degree?
My whole point is Walter and NPR offer a distorted view of history. TET was a disaster for the Communists; not at all what Walter reported. The NPR report is not worth the digits used to record it.
@trektune your first comment is hidden. Sorry about the drunken rant, you appeared to be an ignorant yokel.
I believe Giap launched Tet to show the morale and capability of the communists. Giap never thought he could defeat the US in open combat but showed they would not end the war on US terms. In that sense, the war was unwinnable without invading N. Vietnam(PRC wouldn't be neutral, escalating the war not ending it). I think Cronkite was speaking about the WAR being unwinnable not battles.
@trektune yes, you are correct. TET was a military dissaster for the Communists in South Viet Nam - after TET the Communist guerilla forces in the South were not a threat. But TET was a great propaganda victory for the Communists as Walter Cronkite and the Liberal American Media presented the so called "Uprising" as proof that Viet Nam war was lost and supposedly the PEOPLE in South Viet Nam were all for the Communists.
@trektune The US began withdrawing from Vietnam when it became clear that the Vietnamese Communists not in the Soviet camp. There was no international Communist conspiracy. The Cold War was a crazy time though, the stakes were too high to make look weak. Instead of playing the blame game we should learn about diplomacy from that time because in the end there was only minor wars(notably: Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan) and I am proud our species chose not to blow ourselves up.
My father fought in WW II and the Korean war. Unfortunately, I foolish thought with emotion rather than a clear head in the 60s and 70s; I'm embarrassed to say that I swallowed hook line and sinker what Uncle Walter and the popular media said at the time; I believed all that drivel.
But no more.
Good luck to you Gamehound83! Keep an open mind and think objectively. Always maintain a healthy skepticism, especially of the dinosaur media. (And be very careful about info on the web too.)
@trektune Gotta stop those Reds, even though the Chinese Communists had already split from the Soviet Union. I know the Vietnamese aren't the Chinese and they received aid from the USSR but mostly from PRC. Mao didn't have control of the PLA during this period and attempted to seize nukes to attack his greatest enemies, the USA and USSR(false socialists). Nixon realized this which is why he played China against the USSR in '73. When did most of the combat missions in Vietnam end?
THIS!! is the REAL 60's, No walk in the park on acid like so many younger people think it was.

Except for the tens of thousands who are officially "collateral" damage. It's curious you forgot to mention them.
You also forgot to mention that in El Salvidor, the U.S government supported death squads that massacred thousands.
