These guys should get together, there work is superb! People can't stand all the fake music that is out today let these guys put out some real art in music.
Alot of people diss their albums since he left, but apart from Exciter being mediocre, they were really good. They sound much better than most people anticipated when Alan left. Despite this, I agree that they would be even more amazing with him in the group. Here's to a potential full reunion!
A lot of people are probably going to severely dislike me for my opinion, but I find it unfortunate that despite the fact that 'Somebody' is one of Depeche Mode's more known songs, it is also one of their more generic. I know that many people have fond adolescent memories of having their first dance with someone special, etc., but I feel that 'Question of Lust' would have been a better choice.
I really like Alan as he is my favourite member of Depeche Mode and his a great musician and his very a genesis and he seems to be a really nice gentleman and Depeche Mode were better when he was in the band .
Alan Wilder's version of 'In Chains' gives a taste of what SOTU could have been, and the albums that preceded it. It's as though he just picked up where SOFAD left off with that mix. Martin Gore's songwriting is still as good as it always was, but Depeche suffer without Alan's production skills. I doubt Alan would ever become a band member again, but he could join them as a producer. Depeche Mode would become the biggest band in the world.......again!!
true that smith. Wilder changed their music for the better. his live drumming on the devotional tour was great. (my fav album) i hope they reunite for their last album.
wow! that's very nice of alan to say those words to his former bandmates. and still he looks great despite the age. still got that nice smile. seeing him play again with the band is totally nostalgic. goodluck alan.
I love DM since... EVER , but really, it's not the same without Allan. What Recoil has published until now, it so beautiful and profound, multilayered and avant garde, I can help thinking its a big, big lose to DM. They always had leaded the way in electronic music, but not with their lasts albums. The core remains, but the spark is lost.
Who in the love of fuck could dislike this video??? Al Wilder is the man Depeche were at there best with this musical genius of a man!!!! Would love if he came back for the next album/tour which should be there last and go out on a high!!
Alan W. is Depeche Mode and will always be. His work is the greatest, true artist. Thank you Depeche Mode for giving that special song with Alan again.
He's not an asshole.. he's anything but. He's the perfect Gentleman in fact.. There were many political reasons for Alan leaving and he did the decent thing and refused to spill the dirt or get into bitter exchanges.. something you could learn a lot from.
@Chevytravelleruk Your right. I regret what i said. My apologies and sympathies to those who were hurt, shocked, offended and appalled by my insensitive and hurtful comments.
I love how he restrains himself to say that he wrote half the genius behind all those songs... justifiably so... and he doesn't need it because he is proper as fuck and he has Recoil... which he used to take back the parts in Faith and Devotion he penned to create a killer album with a REAL Bluesman in subHuman
NEWS FLASH: i think the boys are in a better relationship now...and whatever was between is over,...martin played at alan show in santa ana...and alan played at Royal charity concert...its a start...so...the conclusion...the boys will ask alan to work with them for the next album maybe even go on tour...he can return,if not for good ,he can for an album/tour...Robbie return to Take That for there new album..why alan not ?!?! cheers modenation

Depeche Mode is a genius band and now,but with Alan Wilder it would be even greater now. Simply to say, Depeche mode has to start creating New Wave songs again. Same with synthpop, they still create it, but it's like a little bit 'mutated', so they should create Synthpop songs with the style of Violator songs.
I'm a fan of DM pre and post Wilder, but they were definitely best with him in the band. He brought a sort of industrial vibe to their sound that left with him, and I miss it.
Alan is a very classy guy! They should really bring him back as they are a better band with him. It is so close that if I were grading them as I would collectible vinyl it would be:
Depeche Mode w/o Alan = NM+
Depeche Mode with Alan = M++++
You need to look no further than his work on Violator. Epic!
When Alan joined, he had created a sound that really began to devolop and shine through on Music For The Masses, and kept doing so until he left. While, yes, DM does sound different now, they're certainly not terrible (Ultra and Exciter are really great albums, in my opinion). For me, the band hasn't gotten worse since Alan left, just different... Though, I'd really like Alan to come back, I think the decision is up to him, entirely.
Real nice guy, glad that happened shame I wasn't there, really made DM the band they were, my only regret... never met him! top bloke thanks for what you contributed to DM!
I think the production of the last few albums by DM (though very good) have not let Martin's (or Daves) song writing skills really shine through. I have preferred the 'simpler' live studio versions they have done. So yeh, bring back Alan Wilder, definately! :-)
ps - check out my DM remixes at my youtube page...shameless plug sorry!
hey webmaster, what does the band think about the latest declarations of lady gaga about they?, will martin let lady gaga do a cover of the band?, in my personal opinion i think shouldnt let her do that, the DM fans got enough with the bad covers of the another bands
Alan Wilder was fantastic for Depeche Mode! I don't think his greatness reflected as well in Recoil, his own project. Alan was a mastermind in creating the mood that Depeche Mode was known for no matter what the record was, he delivered. When Alan was with the group you also felt that it wasn't a "rent-A-producer" album like it's been since "Songs of Faith and Devotion". The other great thing was when the GROUP was on stage you knew who was playing the instruments. We all know Fletch does "0"!
Alan Wilder was the mastermind behind the true sound we have all come to love from Depeche Mode. I hope this is an indication that he will soon return and DM will once again be a quartet. I think its interesting that Dave has been the only member to keep in contact with Alan and I am suspicious that he wrote the song "Come Back" off the new album as a message to Alan.
A text message??? Dave, you gotta be shittin' me! You couldn't pick up the F*CK&NG phone and personally call the man (who practically made your career successful), and ask him like a real person?? I'm sorry, but i have a problem with something this important (a reunion w/Alan) to be asked by a TEXT MESSAGE.
When Alan joined the band, their sound changed from bein' ultra-poppy to havin' a deeper, darker, edgier sound. All's I got ta say is, GOD BLESS YOU ALAN WILDER! Your musical contributions are underrated and will never be forgotten... at least not by this gal!
@beowulven... No, YOU're right, lol! Not sure how it all went down, but didn't Martin take over the songwriting after Vince Clarke left. I prefer the stuff after Vince left the group. So, yeah, you're right. Martin wrote/writes some great tunes.
@katgrrrl that is wrong, I'm terribly sorry. A Broken Frame is "Dark" and "Edgey" and Alan's first record: Construction Time Again was pop. "Everything Counts in Large Amounts" that's 'dark and edgey'? I think you're talking about Violator, or Songs of Faith and Devotion, in which case you skipped just a few records. FYI, Wilder wrote 1 song on Construction Time Again, and 1 song on Some Great Reward, and none thereafter. Martin Gore is Depeche Mode, then Gahan. The rest were window dressing.
@USAGlobalVideoCorp You obviously have no clue as to how the raw material from Martin came into being the songs you know by the hands and ears of Allan Wilder and the different producers (ie Flood).
@COSMO2RULE yeah i do, daniel miller was before flood, and Gore writes all the tunes but is modest and gives allan credit in interviews, I saw the doc on youtube. And before Gore took over on "A Broken Frame" Vince Clark wrote most of "Speak and Spell" who left to form Erasure. I have All DM records. So.. I ask again, and answer this time..Is "Everything Counts" in large amounts Dark and Edgey as you put it?? That sound didn't creep in til' "Music for the Masses" and full-ahead on "Violator"
@ash23neuro Yes, I love black celebration "It's a question of lust" geeatest song and melody ever written anywhere. "Fly on the windscreen" Black celebration is fantastic "But not tonight" I would loan all my DM tapes to girls I worked with. Funny, I would never see those tapes again? hmm... I need to rebuy that record for sure! "Violator" and "Songs of Faith and Devotion" are dark records if in nothing but a Pink Floyd sense. dark is "Starless and Bible Black". NTL I love all DM. "BLASFOMAOUSR
@LayItPlayItDown... Thank you, LayIt. I'm a fan from way back/early 80s like most o the people here. But then, I'd kinda lost interest in the late 90s. Then, saw them at Madison Square Garden last August... Blew me AWAY! Woulda been nice if Alan coulda been there, but it is what it is. I'll catch up with you guys as soon as I get around to finishing this book, Depeche Mode: Stripped. Thanks again for the feedback and the DM101, guys, lol. :)
martin, dave, alan, andy. From Broken frame to faith and devotion.
Doesnt matter what the reality is now. They are depeche mode to me forever in my universe. And it just pleases me watching "If You Wanna Use Guitars, Use Guitars" short film over and over again!!
PLEASE BRING ALAN WILDER BACK!! I love Depeche Mode...they are my favorite band of all time. I have seen them live more times then I can count and still can't get enough of their music, but there has been a definite hole left ever since his departure.
Hey Depeche Mode!! I am a HUGE fan of yours and I was sooo happy when the Songs Of The Universe album came out! I'm soo glad you guys have made it this far as a band! I always listen to your songs at least once a day, especially the singles 86-98! I hope the familys are happy because I am! LONG LIVE DEPECHE MODE FOREVER!!!!!!
Good Job Alan, I miss your classic synth sounds on depeche Mode, thank you for give us your performance on the Concerts and your support for the Band, Good Luck, Alan on your personal jobs.... I just cry to see your hugs with the band after much time !!! and, the last thing, It´s incredibel performance on the concert " The World we live in and live in Hamburg !!!
I often look back to the sound what Alan Wilder has designed. DM sounds not good since Alan left the Band. They are sounding cheese very often, like a body without a soul.
I often look back to the sound what Alan Wilder has designed. DM sounds not good since Alan left the Band. They are sounding cheese very often, like a body without a soul.
I think you can tell from Alan's answer he still cares what Martin thinks. We all know that Dave hated Alan leaving. During the Singles Tour Dave said he missed looking back and seeing Alan standing there. I can't see DM doing another album without Alan.
That's really cool that Alan still cares what Martin thinks. You can tell that Alan wants to be a part of Depeche. If DM does another album I can't see Alan NOT being apart of Depeche again. You can see Dave asking Mart what he thought after " Somebody". By the way Dave moved his arms he's saying to Mart "yes" or "no"? And Mart's motion was " sure why not". That's what it looked like to me..lol. But I've been a fan since '86 so what do I know? haha.
I would love to see Alan do more shows with DM since I missed those years and I would love to see him team up with Dave to write some songs. But I'm still not sure about him getting back together with DM to help them record another album since they have other talented musicians writing with them now. Plus it's been 15 years since he left. That's a long time folks. I think the best opportunity for a collaboration between Alan and Dave is through Recoil.
And last thing, I really thankfull DM they pushed me to start learn English:)). Yeah, that is true!:-) Without them I would never need it)). I wanted to understand what are songs about...
I remember when I've listened Song of Faith and Devotion at first time I was killed I though "Oh, what's wrong with DM" I was sure it was a musicial death of DM for me, cause SOFD was so different to Violator, Music For the Masses and others. However after some time I released Higher Love, I Feel you and the whole album is made for a lot years forward. Same is SOTU. I am sure that not later then 1 year I'll love it as much as Devotional:-).
Since I saw the first clip People are People I enjoyed of Depeche always and trully and to my opinion all members of the band are incredibly talented and they gave theirs best to the world, to us. And I believe with Alan they will give us more more and more interesting. And one more thing about Dave's, Martin's,Fletch's and Allan's music ,
I want Alan be a member as he was till 1995. And I do not agree with those who's trying to make some comparison to ex-marrige. this is not about family I mean ex-wife, this is about our Youth, about DM themselves.
These guys should get together, there work is superb! People can't stand all the fake music that is out today let these guys put out some real art in music.

Epic!

Alan was always my favorite member of DM......had a massive crush on him back in the mid 80's....<3

JulioCarlos69 1 year ago 5
When Alan joined, he had created a sound that really began to devolop and shine through on Music For The Masses, and kept doing so until he left. While, yes, DM does sound different now, they're certainly not terrible (Ultra and Exciter are really great albums, in my opinion). For me, the band hasn't gotten worse since Alan left, just different... Though, I'd really like Alan to come back, I think the decision is up to him, entirely.

We all know Fletch does "0"!
georgegalloearth 1 year ago
Alan Wilder was the mastermind behind the true sound we have all come to love from Depeche Mode. I hope this is an indication that he will soon return and DM will once again be a quartet. I think its interesting that Dave has been the only member to keep in contact with Alan and I am suspicious that he wrote the song "Come Back" off the new album as a message to Alan.

When Alan joined the band, their sound changed from bein' ultra-poppy to havin' a deeper, darker, edgier sound. All's I got ta say is, GOD BLESS YOU ALAN WILDER! Your musical contributions are underrated and will never be forgotten... at least not by this gal!
katgrrrl 1 year ago 45
@katgrrrl
You're right, of course, but I think the change had more to do with Martin's songwriting.
beowulven 1 year ago
@beowulven... No, YOU're right, lol! Not sure how it all went down, but didn't Martin take over the songwriting after Vince Clarke left. I prefer the stuff after Vince left the group. So, yeah, you're right. Martin wrote/writes some great tunes.
katgrrrl 1 year ago
USAGlobalVideoCorp 1 year ago
@USAGlobalVideoCorp You obviously have no clue as to how the raw material from Martin came into being the songs you know by the hands and ears of Allan Wilder and the different producers (ie Flood).
COSMO2RULE 1 year ago
@COSMO2RULE yeah i do, daniel miller was before flood, and Gore writes all the tunes but is modest and gives allan credit in interviews, I saw the doc on youtube. And before Gore took over on "A Broken Frame" Vince Clark wrote most of "Speak and Spell" who left to form Erasure. I have All DM records. So.. I ask again, and answer this time..Is "Everything Counts" in large amounts Dark and Edgey as you put it?? That sound didn't creep in til' "Music for the Masses" and full-ahead on "Violator"
USAGlobalVideoCorp 1 year ago
@USAGlobalVideoCorp What about "Black celebration" album? It's very dark to me.
ash23neuro 1 year ago
@ash23neuro Yes, I love black celebration "It's a question of lust" geeatest song and melody ever written anywhere. "Fly on the windscreen" Black celebration is fantastic "But not tonight" I would loan all my DM tapes to girls I worked with. Funny, I would never see those tapes again? hmm... I need to rebuy that record for sure! "Violator" and "Songs of Faith and Devotion" are dark records if in nothing but a Pink Floyd sense. dark is "Starless and Bible Black". NTL I love all DM. "BLASFOMAOUSR
USAGlobalVideoCorp 1 year ago
@katgrrrl
Yes their sound did change,
but only because Vince Clark wrote pretty much every single song on the 1st album & then on the 2nd Martin wrote every single song.
@ USAGlobalVideoCorp
F-Y-I, Alan's first record was "A Broken Frame".
But the first one he was *credited* on where CTA.
And there is a huge difference between the 1st albums
emotional content "hey your such a pretty boy, p-r-e-double-T-Y) "
compared to th 2nd album
"i can't stand this emotional violence, leave in silence"

I think you can tell from Alan's answer he still cares what Martin thinks. We all know that Dave hated Alan leaving. During the Singles Tour Dave said he missed looking back and seeing Alan standing there. I can't see DM doing another album without Alan.
SomeGreatDevotion 1 year ago
That's really cool that Alan still cares what Martin thinks. You can tell that Alan wants to be a part of Depeche. If DM does another album I can't see Alan NOT being apart of Depeche again. You can see Dave asking Mart what he thought after " Somebody". By the way Dave moved his arms he's saying to Mart "yes" or "no"? And Mart's motion was " sure why not". That's what it looked like to me..lol. But I've been a fan since '86 so what do I know? haha.
SomeGreatDevotion 1 year ago
I would love to see Alan do more shows with DM since I missed those years and I would love to see him team up with Dave to write some songs. But I'm still not sure about him getting back together with DM to help them record another album since they have other talented musicians writing with them now. Plus it's been 15 years since he left. That's a long time folks. I think the best opportunity for a collaboration between Alan and Dave is through Recoil.

Saksualaff 1 year ago
I remember when I've listened Song of Faith and Devotion at first time I was killed I though "Oh, what's wrong with DM" I was sure it was a musicial death of DM for me, cause SOFD was so different to Violator, Music For the Masses and others. However after some time I released Higher Love, I Feel you and the whole album is made for a lot years forward. Same is SOTU. I am sure that not later then 1 year I'll love it as much as Devotional:-).
Saksualaff 1 year ago
Since I saw the first clip People are People I enjoyed of Depeche always and trully and to my opinion all members of the band are incredibly talented and they gave theirs best to the world, to us. And I believe with Alan they will give us more more and more interesting. And one more thing about Dave's, Martin's,Fletch's and Allan's music ,
this is music of the future.
Saksualaff 1 year ago
I want Alan be a member as he was till 1995. And I do not agree with those who's trying to make some comparison to ex-marrige. this is not about family I mean ex-wife, this is about our Youth, about DM themselves.
