Proud to be Canadian

I'm proud of our military's record as *peacekeepers*. I'm grateful to Jean Chretién for not being a toady to Bullsh, and declaring us a sovereign nation. Thus, keeping us out of Iraq and avoiding the pointless squandering of even more fine young Canadians in a war that will not be won.

I'm proud of the fact that, until Stephen Harper, we could hold our heads up as a liberal, caring society respected as such throughout those segments of the world that know us.

Its cool you like where you live and all, but I could never really understand national pride myself. How does one take pride in a situation one has not earned? It's like saying I'm proud my eyes are blue.

There aren't all that many armed forces in the world that are on the same level as the US in training and equipment. The Canadians are definitely one of them. It's a small army, but soldier-for-soldier they're as good as anyone and much better than most.

Gold, Juno, Sword. These were the beaches on Normandy that the Canadians landed. They were the largest bridgehead of D-Day. You should feel proud.
