@graffitinj My thoughts exactly. It's one thing to not listen to this music, but to take the extra step and dislike this? It just blows my mind. And those 2 people should blow something else...
Definitely the greatest jazz guitarist in history followed by Barney Kessel. Wes and Django overrated. Joe is in my top 5 of all time greatest guitarists.
He plays the most beautiful chords! You can know all the chords in the world, but if you don't know how to use them it's worthless! Joe Pass is a perfect example of a guitar player the know's how to use his chords!
Joe was/is in a league all his own. He's a one man band. When I hear him play, I waffle between being totally inspired and wanting to sell my gear for a Harley. He makes it look so easy!!!
Joe makes it sound like 3 guitars are playing the same song, Rhythm, solo and nice complimenting chords.I get both down on myself watching Joe, but I pick up the guitar to try and get better...
@chicago911susy Joe.."I am dead....but no, i studied sitar, then moved on to vibraphones before switching to, and mastering, the venerable 6 string electric"..
What an amazing contrast of comping in time, soloing "out" [relatively] harmonically, and implying a tight rhythmic swing groove over a standard ballad in such a short time -- barely 3:30 minutes including audience reaction -- unaccompanied.
Ahh, Joe. Man!
And what an strange irony. How youtube brings both the past as well as the future, AND WHAT IS ACROSS THE WORLD, in any language, to what is in essence the XXI century's woodshed: your COMPUTER. Sheet music; tabs; lessons, inspiration
@amusiathread well you gotto just to pay for a decent archtop. Did you manage to keep the house? And well done for the courage to follow Joe's path. He frightens me - pleasantly.
Does anyone know what happened to the video of pass doing "What are you going to do for the rest of your life"? It was here fro years, now I cant find it and... it drives me crazy
He reminds me of Dr Phil here!

This is what Jazz Guitar is all about. When theres no need for any backing to make it complete and hide any lack of talent, then you know its good.

The Jazz legend Joe pass channelling the divine through music; MYSTICALLY MYSTIFYING!

Sorely missed, but forever admired.

I saw this guy live in the late 70s and what a guitarist. He came up in the interlude and spoke to my mate and I. What a real genuine guy he was.
Definately the master of jazz guitar for sure.
They talked of who was going to fill his shoes after his passing. But who could"???

Shame the version in the Joe Pass chord solo book's not more like this one. This has far more flow and 'swing' about it.
