  • this guy in the video sad: "as above, so below" that is satanic / baphomet talk ??

  • @joelramirez0 Are you asking?

If so, the answer is, "no".

  • infinity is opiset of zero

same every thing opiset of nothing

  • thank you for this.

  • If infinity is not a mathematic possiblity , then how is it that we have a concpet of it, enough to think about it, discuss it, contemplate it? If God had no beginning and has no end and if, even in nautre, we see repetition after repetition after repetition, then what might this be telling us? If you're already able to think about and discuss it analytically, whether figuiring it out or not, then it is already in you, even though the tought of it might be somewhat overwhelming to most.

  • If I were forced to state my thoughts on the nature of the universe, how I thought the overall structure acted, etc, it would be very similar to this. I would say that the 11 physical dimensions suggested by quantum theory are relative. That is, from our perspective, there may be 11, but if we could shift our perspective to a different point, there may be 11 that include some subset of those relevant to our own existence, with others that "don't exist" from our current perspective.

  • @pfarabee of course, given a truly infinite universe, not only is it possible for all things to exist, it is required that all things exist, and that they exist identically an endless number of times. So it is not only possible that another planet exists somewhere with the same people doing the same things in exactly the same way; it is a given, and there are an infinite number of such planets.

  • @pfarabee And Cord said to the blind man, "You've been this way before".

To which the blind man struck him across the face and asked, "How many times"?

  • @corthew Lol, it's almost enough to make one become a determinist. But no, I refuse to accept nihilistic viewpoints, no matter how logical they may be. Maybe that's just my lot in life? ;)

  • Infinity existed before time existed and if you remove time numbers as we know them cease to exist. That is why we cannot offer a mathematical explanation to infinity.

In a infinite world what can exist may exist an infinite number of times.

  • Time has never had a starting point. According to his argument, if you draw an infinite line starting at zero, you could never reach any point that occurs after the infinite distance. In order to understand the truth, you must abandon the concept of a static origin (zero) in order to see that only the present exists as a moving origin, and an infinite amount of time exists before and after this moving point. The only point which has, and will always exist.

  • pootie!

  • Subscribed and 5'd

  • As far as I know it was Kant who came up with the thought experiment of infinite time.

  • As a thought experiment maybe, but infinite time (as concept) has been around since before recorded history.

  • I ment he came up with the particular one mentioned in the video.

  • The best way I've had it put to me: infinity is something you go towards. It's a direction, not a destination. Simple!

  • The best part was at 2:00, where you completely exhausted the precision of the FPU.

  • fractals! cool

  • Here's a question: if you have a group of people, each with 10 fingers, than no matter how many people you have, there will always be 10X the fingers than there are people. So if you have infinite people, how many fingers are there? The same amount of fingers as people (infinity), or 10X the infinate amount? :p

For now I think infinity is just a concept, used in equations, but neither demonstrateable nor understandable in reality.

  • Used in equation yet not demonstratable?

    :)

Interesting argument with the ten fingers.

You could just as easily have asked, "what is half of infinity". :)

When you attempt to understand infinity in finite terms you can only become more confused.

    But everyone must start somewhere.

  • Yeah I know that question isn't really proof that infinity doesn't exist, because I'm asking for the TOTAL number of fingers versus people, however infinity is the concept of not having a total. But still; you could say that the very concept of "not having a total" can't exist, or at least that it can never be demonstrated to ex ist because you'd never get to the end.

  • "Beause you'd never get to the end"

You get it, you just don't see see it.

    But you do get it.

  • Great video, I wish it would never end. Loved the music and the Mandelbrot. Best I've seen so far.

Fly - If infinity isn't a total then it is 0. And if its zero doesn't that put us at the beginning and the end? At least, that's what I got out of it. I may be wrong, though.

  • There is no point that one reaches where things are summed up and compared —which is more, which is less. Within the concept of infinity, nothing is resolute. It's not some staggering number of X as compared to a larger number of Y, it neither begins nor ends. You're using the finite characteristic of value. Value is a finite quality. 12 is 12 because it never becomes 13.

  • If you like, you can take this thought further and consider that all matter is matter; and there is no real distinction between the matter that comprises your hand as opposed to the matter that comprises your fingers. All mater is matter. Infinity depends upon the concept of singularity. A singular 'thing' self replicated, producing an infinite loop of 'feedback', if you will.

  • You know...It's interesting that you mention that because I'm working on a quest for spoof project that explores the concept of infinity within finite boundaries.

  • gota love the trippy stuff.

  • Infinite does not exist. It is only a concept, a thought, a mathematical fantasy that men have thought over the past millions years.

The thought of infinity is "never ending" or "ongoing". But in reality, there is no such thing.

  • If God is outside the universe:

a.) Language isn't suited is describe God in the slightest. Even "God is real" is not a truly accurate way of describing God

b.) God must be non-real, as anything not pertaining to reality is not real. Its the very definition!

Simply placing the words "infinity" and "everlasting" around God does not make it so.

  • As far as the Universe is concerned, I'm equally vexed whether I assume it is finite or infinite. If--taking the spatial dimension--the Universe has a finite size and a boundary, then what is on the other side of the boundary? If it is infinitely large, then it is the only thing that has no boundary in at least one direction. I can't fathom that, either. Ditto time. I can't imagine time beginning nor ending, but neither can I imagine it regressing or progressing infinitely.

  • If space is finite but curved then the boundary problem is solved: there is no boundary.

A simplistic and crude analogy: you're on the surface of a sphere and you begin to walk in an arbitrary direction. The sphere is finite but you will never hit a 'boundary'. You'll keep walking forever.

  • Infinity amazes yet scares me.

  • I think if I was going to live that long it would scare me. But I don't have to do that. :)

At least not all at once. ;)

  • wow this was amazing. the infinity is a bit hard to understand but this was interesting.

  • If God is outside our reality and working on a different set of rules how can believers freely comment on His/Her/Their state of mind?

  • Yes dammit, this is what I have been saying all along! Good video.

  • So it's like a circle, but a circle has a measurable circumference.

  • Maybe time repeats itself?

Given enough time it is bound to form a pattern.

Maybe the pattern was always there.
