It was a hard landing test by the manufacturers. The plane was subsequently repaired (!) and sold to an airline.

No it was not. It was a performance landing test that went wrong.

And the plane was not subsequently sold; it was retained by McDD and combined with parts from another damaged aircraft to make a new test aircraft (used for the Un Ducted Fan program, amongst others)

Testing accident at Edwards Air Force base. Landing planned for 12fps descent (2x normal rate) but actually thudded down at 17fps. Subsequently rebuilt and registered as N560MD. Used as test aircraft and scrapped in 1994.
