You know there is nothing that I hate worse than a bassist that instead of actually learning the bass just plays with a pick. If you want to play with a pick then just pick up a guitar because obviously you can't handle the bass.

@Lover2Hate - Dude(tte), playing the bass with a pick is just one of the many techniques available: pick, fingerstyle, slap/ pop, even with the goddamn thumb if you like!

I play with pick and fingerstyle, so what? In fact, I prefer the pick in my current band because it gives the bass sound more attack and presence. It's not about what technique you use, it is all about groove and playing for the song. Who cares if it's with a piece of plastic or with your digits?

yeah i play bass in a thrash metal band and i use a pick because of all the alternate picking we do. it doesn't mean you can't fucking play with your fingers, just because you choose NOT to, sometimes, depending on the type of music you play, using a pick is the way to go...doesn't make you less of a bass player.
