Unfortunately a lot of this is true. In Grad school I belonged to a Hispanic/Black Association and much of what I heard from eligible women had to do with how independent, strong, gorgeous, successful and smart they were. Very little was discussed about spirituality or family values and I was in fact, challenged all the time to demonstrate that I was at the same socio-economic level. I got tired of these games eventually and stopped looking within that particular group for a partner.

Unfortunately a lot of this is true. In Grad school I belonged to a Hispanic/Black Association and much of what I heard from eligible women had to do with how independent, strong, gorgeous, successful and smart they were. Very little was discussed about spirituality or family values and I was in fact, challenged all the time to demonstrate that I was at the same socio-economic level. I got tired of these games eventually and stopped looking within that particular group for a partner.

As a black woman, I am incredibly saddened by these dynamics. These are sad, but true...in most cases. I think this can be seen from both sides of the spectrum.
I do not fit this stereotype of a woman who wants a man to earn six figures, live in a big house, drive a nice car--nor am I of the school of thought that these good black man can't handle a strong black woman. I rather be comfortable rather than have excess. Has anyone ever thought about us?
