There are effeminate male dancers out there, but Tarik is not one of them. He is one of the great performers of masculine Raqs Sharki (see also Tito and Jamil)
We love to watch him dance! Totally different style than women's style. This tune is great, too
Butch it up? What the hell are you talking about? Dance is genderless, what does it matter whether he dances like a man or woman? The point of dance is movement, rhythm, timing and music that's all that matters. It's all about what enjoyment you derive for watching dance. Obviously you have got some deep-seated issues man!
@TRUTHTEACHER2007 Maybe those who have a problem with the tinsel want him to hang his dick out? I don't understand why people feel so threatened by anything that may be interpreted as blurring the gender lines. It's okay for women to butch it up, but if men are seen wearing anything only slightly suggestive of crossing over to the fem side, some folk just can't cope with that. There is a lot of insecurity out there you know.
Love it Love it!!! Ur The best, is there any video that can teach the oriental dance, or what would you recommend to get into this great form of expression
Tarik I'm glad I found your videos on you tube. It's a shame that you have to defend against so much discrimination from some viewers. Were suppose to be in such a free country but it is yet still filled with so many negative people. Keep dancing, teaching and being a positive light that you are!
This was a choreography that I taught and that why its simple. Also the music is repititious, but I did variations, not the exact same thing. Um Kalthoum did the same thing when she sang, I guess she was an awful singer. As for my moves many of them ARE moves I learned in Egypt in El Ezbekiya Darb il Ahmar and Shubra. You can't get any more Shabby than that. However, this was made for stage not dancing in the livingroom with my friends. There's a difference between social dance and stage
Tarik, you rock! (you have the same name as my son). Your dances give joy and inspiration to many. I have lived all over the middle east and your moves are as authentic as any I've seen. Your expression and stage presence are second to none.
Thank you for your encouragement. I'm glad you enjoyed my performances. Please look at my other videos. I have some very nice videos I took in Egypt, just of the ordinary people. I think you'll enjoy them.
Thank you Tarik. The videos really sent me back in time to when I lived in Egypt. I am surprised there are still public opportunities for women to dance. I was told by a friend of mind that the mood of society there had drifted to severe religious conservatism.
Yes it has, but worse than this for the dance is the terrible economy. All the top clubs are closing down because of lack of clientele. On the flip side, the terrible economy, political corruption and lack of opportunities is driving more and more people to fundamentalism.
Wow! I'm very impressed, the dance was very tasteful and beautiful. I wish I could see you live! I want to congratulate you for being such an amazing artist/dancer. Pay no mind to judgement and ignorance. You have my 10 stars :) - Susana
you look good man dont west your time by shaking your hips get men job real job.take this little advece from little sister.we have culters in africa we are not like north american you dont have to dance like that just to be a famous.thats doesnt represent a good african man.
I don't dance because I have to. I hold several degrees. I dance because I WANT TO. I'm an artist and an educator and I choose to spend my life spreading light. I perform, I teach, I lecture and I write. I'm currently working on a book and a documentary. As for being a good African man, if my Egun, Orisha and Olodumare give me their blessings, I think I've choosen the right path for myself. Don't judge when you don't know the situation.
sorry mitmitagonjit1, but why do u watch bellydance clips if u dont like it??? u dont have to. and what represent a good african man if not dance??? and what is a good african???
I'm not immitating a woman at all. I'm just doing a theatricalized version of the same dance men all over Egypt North africa and much of the Middle East do for fun at home in weddings and parties. Its also very normal for men in many parts of Africa to dance with their hips.
Everyone is ignorant about something. If you knew everything you would be God. Anyway, its nice not knowing everything. It makes life that more exciting knowing that there are new things realities concepts to discover every day, don't you think so?
Its not a woman's dance. Look at the other films in my channel and you will see both sexes dance. Its only that on stage they made it a woman's thing because they were entertaining mostly male tourists. however, there are many men and women who believe the dance has more potential than just this and therefore both men and women should perform on stage, for everyone, not just men.

He is quite talented as a dancer but he needs to butch it up so not to appear so effeminate with his moves.
