  • Have to agree with melissacarterTS. What Devo is to me predates "Whip It." Although I must say that when "We're Through Bein' Cool" came out, I was mesmerized by their weirdness.

And what can one say about this version of Satisfaction except that it's just plain rad.

  • So what's the idea behind "Devolution"? I know these guys had a concept

  • what the hell. how did i get here hahaha

  • pretty F'n good

  • Love this ... their early stuff was so raw and powerful.

Unique and waaay before their time.

Only DEVO could interpret a Stones classic like this and really make it theirs too : )

  • very intresting

  • This is how you cover a song. Great stuff!

  • Great cover to a classic. Really fantastic stuff. Nerd/Punk rock at its best.

  • This video is hilarious.

  • I saw these guys in concert in Tucson in December, 1981. Boy, do I feel old. :-o Glad to see the weirness continue!

  • Great Valentines Day Song!

  • thumbs up if you came from Casino

  • Needs more duct tape.

  • I remember when i first saw this video. My dad and i just looked at each other and were like......WTF??? Next thing you know, my dad buys me tickets to see them for my birthday......my first concert 1982.

  • @waverider038 your dad sounds like my dad. and that's a great first concert. mine was the police with 3rd world opening for them. 1981.

  • @mwenvlay Oh yeah The Police were huge then. I really liked them too

  • Best Version Ever!!

  • HEY HEY HEY

  • WTF ?

  • Oh, Mick is rolling in his grave!!! Wait, he's not dead, he just looks it ;)

    Love it!

  • i feel sorry for this generation, because they missed out on great songs like this

  • @archenemies32 And how do you know? :P

Not all of us listen to LMFAO or Adele or such. Although yeah, today's music sucks (mostly)

  • @KINDspotting and this doesn't suck?

  • @gorrill63 No, it doesn't (IMO). DEVO is one of my favorite bands, just out of oddness. in other words, this doesn't suck, no.

  • NERDS!

  • First saw this around 1978, it was one of the short subjects the night I first saw Rocky Horror Picture Show. Definitely a WTF moment, and a fan of the band since then.

  • sigh* trolled again by a "best of" list.

  • This will always be my favorite DEVO video. Shot on film (it appears). Has a nice look to it. All of it is brilliant. When I saw this back in the day as a tween I was amazed that everyone was wearing the same outfit and all doing the same robotic movements. NO band ever did that. DEVO was like some kind of 'movement'. I thought it was so cool. And the way that Casale trips. Nobody did that either in a video. These guys were 'playing' people. I loved it. Was and still is sooooo coooooool!

  • WHAT IN THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD IS HIS GUITAR MADE OF!?!?

  • @HelpfulPineapple Justin Bieber eat your heart out.

  • Comment removed

  • They deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Period! Everyone on Planet Earth remembers DEVO.

  • @5ericmae i just saw them a couple days ago

they might be old but they are still AWESOME

  • MILF WITH ROLLING PIN-----YUMMY, NO TITS

  • Wtf??????????????

  • @madmanwarria They have more talent in their little toe than you do in your entire body.

  • @xMCRmyLovex Indeed.

  • @madmanwarria go back to beiber faggot

  • I remember this song from the movie Casino and I like the bass line of this cover it's very funky.

  • @mtume007 i feel you on that. every time i hear this i think of casino especially the part when they shoot up the cops home and you hear this song playing. for some reason i think the song and the scene fits perfectly.

  • does that specific guitar make that sound at 0:13? or can any electric guitar do that?

  • Devo hit 1980 with "Whip It" and has maintained a cult following throughout its existence. Their style over time has shifted between punk, art rock, post-punk, and New Wave. Their music and stage show mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary. Their often discordant pop songs feature unusual synthetic instrumentation and time signatures influential on subsequent popular music, New Wave, industrial and alternative rock artists.

  • @kennethj1956 "Whip It" was the least interesting of their body of work. Devo actually goes waay back to 1972, Kent state College, formed by the Mothersbaugh family, Mark & Clan, and was actually managed by their father. I'm a fan, not a "follower" because like all people, I dig what I dig. Their day in the sun is long gone, no doubt, but to call them a "flash in the pan" is just wrong. I found their best work to be from 1976-`1978, well before the MTV generation and Whip It.

  • @melissacarterTS Thank you. I learned a lot; I need to read a little more about subjects before making glib comments. . Your "Day in the Sun" description is more accurate than my "Flash in the pan". I am always interested in the beginnings and life span of bands, groups and pop movements. (What is the saying; "it takes 10 years to become an overnight success")? I am a fan of Blondie and have read about their background; it's fascinating how a combination of events = success.

  • @kennethj1956 yeah Mothersbaughs are talented. Since they were Rugrats! (Mark did the theme). At the time, listening to one astonishing 45 after another (Talking Heads, Television, Costello, Boomtown Rats, DEVO, you might have thought "everybody's doing it" but only some endured. Arguably one of the most talented americans - after Talking Heads and Danny Elfman, maybe a few others.)

  • @melissacarterTS copied straight from wikipedia :D lol jk

  • @melissacarterTS , I agree. They were great up until and including "Duty Now for the Future". Once they became cute instead of disturbing, I lost interest. Also, the early stuff had guitar on it still, which may have gave their songs a rawer sound harkening to early 60s rock like "Secret Agent Man' and "House of the Rising Sun" as well as hoe down country music.

  • these are the coolist *&^% %$#@ on the planet!.. long live Devo!! I used to listen to them before rap and hip hop metal and hair bands were all over the televison and air waves and they are still one of my favorite bands.

  • My favorite band of all time.

  • Is he using a strum stick? 0:39

  • Just listen to this song and other DEVO songs without the video and without being a fan.

Play this for someone who has never heard DEVO before, and tell them to be honest with influencing their opinion.

Quirky yes...... But 'Quirky' only works longterm for weird Al Yankovick.

A band has to grow and become Good to survive in the music business; because without listeners & fans you got nothin.

I lived through DEVO and a hundred other 'flash in the pan' bands. Yes i know they are still together.

  • @kennethj1956 LOL "flash in the pan"???? Are you kidding? These guys are part of rock history. Totally original and kicked major ass in their own individual style. Just because you can't appreciate or understand, that's no excuse, and by the way learn the definition of "flash in the pan."

  • @melissacarterTS I'm glad Devo has found a devoted fan in you. Bands like Devo need dedicated followers to encourage them to keep going; fans like you make it all worthwhile. Like the rest of us masses of humanity, I just haven't heard of Devo since about 1982 when they stopped playing "Whip It" on the radio (and I built my first flintlock rifle.)

I must say you are a credit to the Devo brand!

    Peace to you.....

  • The guy at 0:55 dances like Nathan Barnatt (just search "No Bones Dance" on YouTube to see what I mean).

  • Devo moves like Jagger

  • @sublimeade Oh... I hope not.

  • orange pants guy is fucking awesome.

  • Thumbs up if you have ever danced like the spaz guy in red pants.

  • @DrMotorDude ROTFLAMO!!!

  • @valorik Through the years I have learned the following-

Dance like that in England and no one bats an eye, you blend in.

Dance like that in Texas and no one will talk to you, they think you're crazy.

Dance like that in New Jersey, you get arrested.

Dance like that in Germany, you get laid.

  • It seem a lot more fitting for Mark Mothersbaugh to sing "I can't get no girly action" than Mick Jagger.

  • There are only a handful of covers that I like better than the original, In many different genres of music...This is Definetly One of them.

  • Now thats what I call a COVER!!!! Ohm Namoh DEVO Bhavah \m/

  • The frontman totally reminds me of Matt Smith from Doctor Who.

  • Thumbs up if you heard this on Xtranormal.

  • Eventually you will have to show some talent and write & play good music instead of relying on weirdness to sell records. Weirdness only works once; then you have to grow.

  • @kennethj1956 I don't mean to sound hostile, but are you trying to say that Devo didn't write or play well? In that case, I'd have to disagree.

  • who thinks song is absolutely amazing. i looked up the word kitsch and this song was in there.

  • Mark Mothersbaugh is such a boss. He’s going to be in a movie called “Programming the Nation.” I’d love to hear everybody’s thoughts on it when it comes out. It’s a politically charged documentary based around subliminal messaging. bit. ly/qUuUCp
