Can I transfer the milk (with a little yogurt) from the hot pot to a plastic container and then let it sit over night, or shall I wait till it becomes yogurt before I transfer it into plastic and put in refrigerator?
thank you, Ashley for giving us quick, simple, instruction! after turning off heat, i gently stir in 2 Tablespoons Powder Whole Milk (thickening agent) AND after you said to stir in yogurt culture, i pour yogurt into sterilized quart jars AND put jars into a box lined with, then covered with the blankets (this kept it warm enough overnight). your help is truly appreciated AND you have the sweetest accent!
You cant scald the milk, i tried this, and i scalded the milk, and ruined it. Also, it took more like 20 minutes to cool to 100 degrees. And my milk was cool in the morning although i wrapped it in several blankets. So i got yogurt flavoured milk. The video did explain it simply though. I may leave it in the oven instead.
miss..how did you get your yogurt to get thick and firm? I tried making it last week and it became more thinner yogurt than a rich thick yogurt. You know the balkan style yogurt , thats how I like it. Any help would be appreciate it. Thank you.
I have been making yogurt this way. Heat on oven to 180 degrees, let cool to 120 degrees, put in oven, turn oven light on and leave for 8 - 9 hours. When I remove the yogurt it is runny not firm. Someone said that my oven was not keeping the yogurt warm enough. I have not covered the yogurt when placing it in the oven. The light on the oven is supposed to warm the oven. Do you have any suggestions?
@Jewelz1957 Perhaps you figured it out already, but the temp can't drop below 100f so the light might not be enough, also most people are saying to leave for 12 hrs.
@1986ant1986 I have not tried adding fruits during boiling; however, I love adding fruits after the yogurt is ready. Fresh fruits are the tastiest in my opinion. Enjoy!
