for historic perpuses only, not cause im greek. You can search it if u want. It was Constantiyee untill 19th century. The name istanbul existed long before ottomans arived, we find it in byantine texts. It comes from the phrse Is tan poli which means "to the big city". If u are from istanbul you know that greeks used the Poli (meaning the city, with a capital P "the City" making it as the holy place). This phase was used by pontian and anatolian greeks, the first ones ottomans got in contact

I as a Turk am ashamed of what Turks did while your national anthem was being played. It was very wrong to do sth like that, national anthem of a nation symbolizes their freedom and flag. The flag also symbolizes freedom. After the liberation of Izmir, some Turkish soldiers laid Greek flag on the floor and asked from Ataturk to step on it. Ataturk refused it and said "Flag symbolizes freedom and honour of a nation. We should respect it even if it belongs to the enemy(of that time)."

Maybe Turks did this as an answer to what you did in Greece, but I think even as an answer doing sth like this is wrong. If Turks haven't done anything bad, it would have been a better answer. There is only 3,000 Greeks in all Turkey today, since after the population exchange when over 200,000 Greeks remained in Istanbul and another 50,000 in Imbros (converted to penal colony to drive Greeks out), Tenedos and parts of Turkey.
How many Churches were decimated in all Turkey, and how many were renovated to be used again as places of worship and not museums or still in use?
Attila was planned well in advance from the before the '60's we know this.

Ataturk did not know where we Greeks carry or hold our flag. We Greeks may have a nice piece of cloth to show everyone 'here is our flag.' But as I have offered to many enemy of mine, if they want to burn it, I say be my guest. I would be even as so kind to offer them a bigger flag so they can desecrate in any way they want. But we Greeks keep and carry our flags in our hearts away from our enemies gaze.

@Aegialeus I don't know what your problem is. We also carry our flag in our hearths, every nation with pride and honour does that. But we won't let anyone burn or tear our flag. Killing them of course isn't the right way to stop them burning or tearing our flag, but I would have shot that guy in the leg(not to kill, to stop him).
The shooting of that Greek guy in cyprus was wrong, but they had to do something. If I were that soldier, I would have used either plastic bullets or shot him in leg.

I think those soldiers should have shot him with plastic bullets(which can never kill) or just chased him themselves.

Army wanted to judge him, but they weren't able to because they found out that he has never been to cyprus during his military duty! Greek soldiers have no such order as Turks have to shoot to injure or kill, unless warranted by violent confrontation. Trespassers to be arrested and detained. The Turkish side takes advantage of this by sending over illegal migrants in shanty boats.
