@THeWeedy21: This cow is totally powerless,so its not possible for her to move. Her boby is worn out of excessive "milkproduction". Giving her all the time electroshocks, etc. shows the low intellect and the total ignorance for the pain the cows has! THE COW IS TOO WEAK TO STAND UP! ITS JUST BRAINLESS TO TORTURE HER LIKE THIS!
If this is "standard procedure" i feel very sad for all animals which must suffer from such IDIOTS!
mate u dnt seriously belleive that it acceptable???
i am also a dairy farmer but would hate to see any downer cows i worked with treated like that. I agree with what u are saying, but the way they treat those few cows just aint right
They had that same claim during the Civil War... What would become of the South if slaves were no longer used... What happens is new business is made - new industries open up to other ventures. The fastest growing trend in the food market is vegetarian/vegan options. Farmers would shift to different work - different jobs... Milk can only come from cows who have given birth... what happens to the baby cows? mostly "veal"... Besides, that milk is for the calves.Eggs come from imprisoned birds.
Oh and you speak volumes for the animal industries. Please, let us not quiet your words of enlightenment about animal agriculture... We'd all love to hear more of how you represent your business so accurately. But it's not a part of "life" - it's a part of "death"... and none of it is necessary. We can thrive on a plant based diet. All this cruelty is for money and greed. Perhaps you should "grow up" or at least evolve into the 21st century. Meat and animal killing is passe'. go vegan.
Dairy products are extremely addicting but in the end are bad karma food and thus also unhealthy. Soy-Milk, Rice-Milk and Almond-Milk are excellent substitutes for cow milk. Non-dairy ice creams are also superb. Non-dairy "cheeses" are not very impressive so far, but give the "Vegan Gourmet" brand a try, the best i've seen so far.
Usually don't post on these but here goes. Like the title said, that was a downed cow. According to most state or national laws what the people in the vid did was more than legal.
The slaughter house should only take cattle that can physically walk in on their own, but I am sure that is not always the case. Take a good look at the hamburger you are buying at the grocery because it is probably an old dairy cow.
No living thing should EVER have 2 suffer like that! The fork lift was the worst when it pinched the cow. The mis treatment makes me sick. And that Fat guy who simply says "COME ON!! YOU CAN GET UP!!" SICKENING! THAT guy has some serious shit coming! I can't wait until he has a heart attack & is on the ground in agony at Mcdonalds & he needs emergency help & someone says to him..."COME ON...YOU CAN GET UP!!..SHAKE IT OFF!!"
I'm baffled at the hardened human heart these days.
They wouldn't "waste the money" to put a cow down with drugs, they'd rather hang it upside down in shackles and let it flail around and suffer even when it was already suffering. Because it's cheaper.
It's not totally the fault of the farmer that this is the way it is but the system still has to change. The world is insane. How could we do this to other animals, when we're supposed to be so intelligent and so evolved - and we don't even NEED to.
Cows are not supposed to fall down in pain and fatigue after a few years of their life. It's because they've been put through so much stress in their shortened lifespan.
Giving it electric shocks and pushing it around on cement and kicking it etc won't change the fact that it can't get up, even if it wants to. All those hormones and antibiotics etc mixed with other conditions are the culprits for this situation, not the poor cows themselves.
The sad thing is that this stuff happens all the time. But it is just part of animal agriculture. The farmer should of beefed this cow before she got this bad.
well thank you so much Shhke , please protect the reputation and buisness of farming by getting involved in strengthening regulations on animal farms to protect the animals and your lively hood. thank you!
thank you so much vegan but please do not ignore that all people will not follow this diet and see the need to get involved in strengthening governmental regulations on farm animal treatment. good luck! thanks!
I know that not all people will become vegan (and it's not only a diet, vegans don't wear clothing made by animals, or use soap that was tested on animals, etc), but the more education there is about the issue and about nutrition, the more people go vegan. When people find out that it's possible, healthy and reasonable to lead a non-violent lifestyle (veganism) they are more open to the idea.
the treatment of livestock in corporate farms is mainly the reason why we at the restaurant in which i am a chef use locally raised non growth hormone injected "free range" cattle and "free range" chicken eggs think globally act locally until i find a local dairy farm that can provide safe milk at a price i can afford unfortunately im just going to deal with what the cow delivers currently
Well we can also use healthier things that don't use animals too, like almond milk or rice milk (or soy milk though I don't like it lol). There are lots of great options that don't use animals. Also technically, cows and chickens doesn't "deliver" or "give" milk and eggs, it's taken from them. This isn't an attack on you, so please don't take it that way, it's just info. take care.
You see what your dairy does to these sentient beings?! Don't think it doesn't kill and harm. Please, please, it's time to go vegan.
It's a lousy way to treat ourselves and our planet, to torture animals their entire lives so much that they can't even walk, and then hurt them some more because they have collapsed from all the suffering!!!
I work with forklifts and have seen the damage they can do to rolls of carpet...I can just imagine what damage they do to the sensitive skin of a living being. Lay down and lets see how humane it is when I pick you up with my forklift.
I am appauled at seeing that, thanks for the farmers who have posted on here and given us some hope that there are decent farmers. If I saw them people I would shove that cattle prod up there arse!!! I hope they get whats comeing to them, what goes around.
I am a dairy farmer and I would never treat any of my cattle this way, that cow should have never been sent to a salebarn,or to slaughter.the humane thing would have been to kill her. these people dont represent 99% of farmers or the livestock industry. the chances are after she was loaded she was sent to a dog food plant, b/c slaughter houses are not allowed by law to slaughter down cows for human use.
I'm a farmer i have cows and ofcourse the end of they lifes isn't natural they are killed for meat but whenever I have to do this It is hard for me and my cows always are able to go on they legs and they don't have to travel long ways because they are killed inmeditly when I sell them. What kind of farmer did this to cow that she can't stand up.
Im a dairy farmer in southern ca, and this would never happen on my farm. This does not represent all farms, probably not even a small fraction of farms. There are humane ways to do everything. Some people just dont use their heads.
I just can't believe these videos. I mean the cruelty that is endemic to these factory farm situations. I'm glad HSUS and Mercy for Animals is exposing these crimes. It makes me sick to think that Steve Mendell, the owner of Westland/Hallmark Slaughterhouse in Chino, lives in a multi-million dollar oceanfront house in Corona del Mar while his workers abuse helpless animals. I'm glad they were convicted of cruelty. Plus they put tainted food into the system. Just sickening! I'm voting Yes on 2!
You have to specify because people can be confused. Yes on 2 may means cows, chickens, and pigs get to move and stretch here but means no gay marriage in florida.
Why on earth are there cattle lying around like that completely dehydrated and obviously dying? The people that hire these workers seriously need to evaluate who and who is not fit for the job. Oh and I would like to cut off that fat piece of lard's nuts for thinking he was "the big man" with his electrocution rod.
This is deplorable treatment of cattle. I grew up on a farm and would never tolerate this; the vast majority of farmers would never condone this--any mistreatment of an animal is cause for immediate dismissal.
if they spent a little more money to provide a better system, so there wouldn't be so many downer cows (concrete floor issues) (maybe organic, free range) then there wouldnt be so many problems, but businesses are so cheap and only care about money and profit, they are souless and only see numbers on these cows.
this video has made me cringe, I feel sorry for this cow and all others that have been misstreated. I work on a dairy farm and I can safely say I have never witnessed a downer cow being treated this way.Downer cows on the farms I work on are helped up with patience, sometimes left to be on their own to get up in their own time if they are not in pain or danger. Not all farms have so little respect for their livestock.
I seen you replied to my comment. Please don't act like you know what your talking about. You obviously have no clue what there refering to when they say downed cow. I've been raised you on a dairy farm.
If I watch That man eletricute that cow I don't know what i'll do. I encourage everyone who watches this to write a letter to the state senator of california to creat tougher laws for downer animals. I'm going to. This brought me to tears
I will too, I will create a website to inform people of what happen when we eat meat too. I have also separated $50 dollars a month to a local animal cruelty group which I have verified. I hope this stops for God's sake. I have also taken pig and cows OFF my diet.
I see no reason to use the forklift when they had already got it on the Bobcat, but the buzzer should be thrown away. If you "need" to hurt them, at least you can slap them with the hand. Then it will probably hurt your hand too.
We would have managed differently where I worked, taking a bit more time.
By the way, I'd say this was a 600-800 Kg cow, so not at a tonne yet...
If they were to remove cattle from the face of earth, why have the trouble moving it at all? Why not just shoot it and leave it for the nature to get rid of? It's not like this is the only way they practise!
I had a farmer using one of those electric things as I was loading his beefcattle. I told him "next time I see you use it, i'll tap the batteries onto your balls!". I never saw the thing ever again - before that it was ALWAYS in the window just inside the door.
I was loading 1-by-1 using a lift truck, and as I bent down to fasten the rope, he buzzed the calf so it jumped right over my head from 2 meters away. As the rope was fastened, it held the calf too early so it fell on its back.
How can anyone with half a heart not feel a thing watching her suffer as she does in her last moments of her miserable life. They do not put them out of the misery because if they can fake a breath into them they can still slaughter them, hence get their blood money.
I am the nephew of the owner of Greencastle Livestock Market where this even took place. Every one on here that lets these comments about how bad this is, really does not know a thing about the farming industry. Yes some of these animals are downed because of disease but when we receive these animals there is nothing we can do about them. These cows are weighing up to 1800 lbs and the only way to move them is by a skid loader. Most of these cows are just to old and this leads to weakness
Then explain to me exactly why it was necessary to torment her the way she was?? She was shocked, kicked, punched, had her tail twisted and pulled, you name it. I can understand that the animals might arrive that way, but is the almighty dollar worth THAT MUCH to you that you couldn't just humanely euthanize her where she lay and THEN move her? There is a LOT you can do. You can be HUMANE and COMPASSIONATE about her suffering, instead of just thinking about getting money out of her!!
And the comment "too old"? What a joke! Dairy cows are used up & spent long before they have even a remote chance to become "old". They are pushed to the limit, have their calves yanked away at birth, all in the name of money. Cows can live long lives when raised the way they were meant to be. Factory farming has eliminated everything remotely "normal" for these poor creatures. The weakness comes from being forced to produce thousands of pounds of milk unnaturally. At least be honest please.
We are a livestock MARKET! We dont raise these animals! As a human it doesnt even hurt us to get kicked and punched that hard... A dairy cow that is already half dead sure as hell isnt gonna fell it that bad... now the shocking part was a little cruel but that was the only part of this that was. People need to relax and get a life and stop worrying about someone else's business and worry about there own.
This IS our business. It involves the cruel depths to which humans now stoop due to factory farming & greed. Tail twisting is extremely painful to cows. There are thousands of nerve endings in the tail. No sentient being should be punched or kicked for ANY reason. If you're sick & already in pain, do you want to be punched, kicked or shocked? If we don't make this our business, God only knows how much worse it will get! I'll relax when the curelty & abuses STOP for GOOD.
I am Ukrainian and my lineage is farming there is no such thing as real farming in today's world. Is it not enough they fill your pocket book they need to be tossed like garbage - farming does not exist anymore and if you call that farming I pity you. My grandfather did what he had to do - but this is sick and would have never been done on our farms - if they have a pulse you still can slaughter them today tumours and all. They never had downers back then unlike today's miserable killing fields.
The reason we have downers today is becuase of the squalor and filth they live in their whole miserable lives. The cheapest feed possible, anti-biotics to name a few drugs pumped into them. The cruel and inhumane treatment they get on a daily basis. It is no wonder people feel nothing about life or the livng anymore eating anaimls reared in those conditions- it seems to destroy the emotive part of the human brain - do defend this is sick.
tcoy: It is illegal in the US to slaughter a downed animal. The law requires that it is euthanized immediately. So, WHY AREN'T THESE COWS DEAD BEFORE MOVING? You are so full of bullshit. Average age of dairy cow sent to slaughter FOUR YEARS OLD. Why? Because they are constantly bred, given growth hormones to produce unnatural amounts of milk and when their bodies can't take it, OFF TO THE SLAUGHTE HOUSE. Cows normally will live to 20 under natural conditions.
I am a dairy farmer that sends cows to this facility. Farmers do all they can to make their cows cormfortable. We rely on them for our living and to provide milk and meat for the world. Cows are large(1200-1600 lbs normally) movement can be difficult. Down cow situations are disheartening for farmers. Sometimes, despite our best efforts and veterinary care, they don't get up and must be euthanized. Fortunately that doesn't happen often. I will speak with the owners to work out a solution.
How about you get a new job? Animals are not produce for us to make our living off of. They have lives of their own! And you want to go and profit off of them!? Downed cows are disheartening for you because that is one less animal for you to sell and make money off of. Why are cows downed in the first place? Let's see...neglect, disease, untreated injury, etc. We would object to our own children being exploited, so why are animals any different?
Actually cattle are produce, people do make their living off of them and if all animal farmers stopped tomorrow, there would be a serious food shortage/economic crash that would damage all of us. And BTW, I'm mostly vegan myself these days. But I'm a vagan who values diversity and actually listens to people talk about their lives. Try it. You might learn something. You might find real solutions instead of mean/usless things to say on the internet.
Well I thankyou for speaking with someone about that sort of mistreatment. I just dont understand why they could not just put the poor thing out of its misery or sedate it or give it pain killers or something??
how could people say they are "just"animals and have no souls..i think they have souls..in the case if heaven and hell exists.they have no fucking voices and no choice.poor them.i cry almost everyday cause it gets me so mad to watch this shit.ahh.hey would you guys be mad if you saw a person on tv for killing 200-300 people who killed these animals?someone respond.i wouldnt look up to that person, but i wouldnt blame him.i hate korea and china also
so of you all on here are really idiots. U asked all sorts of weird questions like" would u rather eat a happy cow" and so on. Abuse is abuse how can anything or anyone be happy. U see a man here prodding and sick downer cow with high voltage is this HAPPY? someone should prod some of u on here with high voltages see how it feels.
Why are people so outraged at these videos? If you eat meat why is it a big deal to you? Either way you are putting a dead animal into your mouth. You would much rather eat a happy cow?
If your vegetarain, dat a matter of choice. not a matter of right or wrong. Everything in the world is created for a purpose. Its ignorant pigs like these ppl in the video that abuse power. Did you ever think what the population of cows be if they werent a source of food for humans? This question is 4 theanimaladvocate. Maybe you can educate me on this and tell me wat you plan to do with a cow/goat/chicken..etc population dat matchs if not exceeds human
The cow population would deplete if humans didn't genetically enhance the DNA in our livestocks to grow them faster and meatier. Some live stocks body parts grow much faster then other body parts and they become deformed or become ill with disease. The United States alone slaughters 10 billion of live stocks a year and majority of them are genetically modified foods. I have followed GMO foods for many years and you wouldn't believe what they are doing today with our foods.
I can completly agree with you on that part. What they are doing these days with our food is something that a very significantly low % of the population realizes. Thats why I barely every eat from outside and get most of my meat from a family owned farm. But with that said, if they werent genetically enhancing our food anywhere in the world, the population will still grow to be extremly large if everyone in da world just turned vegetarain all of a sudden. and I'm not just talking abt cow popul
Anything is possible in our world but to be frank. Our society will not turn into vegetarians overnight or few decades from now, only few % will. Majority of the humans are sheep and rather look the other way because its convenient. What frightens me is that GMO has been in our diet from every different seeds known to man have been altered to feed humans and live stocks.
During my studies I have discovered biologist Rick Howard and his colleagues have discovered a paradox that crops up when new genes are deliberately inserted into a fish's chromosomes to make the animal grow larger. While the genetically modified fish will be bigger and have more success at attracting mates, they may also produce offspring that are less likely to survive to adulthood. If this occurs, as generations pass, a population could dwindle in size and, potentially, disappear entirely.
Unless you go completely vegan (and I mean REAL vegan, not vegan-wannabe) then you are still part of the problem. The cow that was used to make your leather shoes/belt/purse/car seats is just as mistreated and dead as the cow that ends up in pieces and neatly wrapped in your local grocery store.
Being American has nothing to do with it. If you eat meat, use products tested on animals, etc, you are contributing to this. Btw I am a vegetarian and use all products NOT tested on animals. Americans are just as bad as anyone else...so get off your high horse and educate yourself.
And how about the movie "Forbidden Journeys"?? That's a LOT worse than this one, and guess where it was made? Europe! Yeah, that's right. Or how about "Market for live animals in Spain"?? Yeah.. not America either. Get real.
Anytime you have *commercial* meat being raised, it's not going to be pretty... doesn't matter WHERE that meat is located.
It's also called leave these animals alone, think of the golden rule, Treat them how u would want to be treated, if someone came at you with a tazer gun and told you to stand up, and u were sick it would take u some time, but they don't even give these hopeless cows a chance, i pitty them.
farmerthomasf seems to imply that all this is complex and that he understands it and we do not. Yet English grammar and spelling is too complex for him to understand...
CityDogLover: No, farmerthomasf apparently hasn't seen Fast Food Nation and if he had he would only see it as a fictional story not the well-written, clever expose that it truly is.
farmerthomasf: Agribusiness takes great pains to keep the truth hidden to the point where USDA inspectors are not allowed within the plant itself. There is a station at the front of the building and one at the back where the processed meat comes out. Percentages of live animals at slaughter vary between 10% to 35% at any given slaughterhouse. This is due to animals being considered "unit" to be processed as quickly as possible.
farmerthomasf: Please read the book "Slaughterhouse" which was written by a reporter who traveled from coast to coast investigating the larger abattoirs. It's not just the animals that are abused, the workers spoke freely with her about just what happens inside, behind closed doors and how THEY are abused and then take it out on the animals. You need to become informed. The agri-business corporations are making too much money to ever be honest about it.
yeah actually this video would have been put on by a vegatarian most likly.
And ecoli will happen. not nessassarily because of a sick cow. And I no that here in Canada there are some very strick rules about what can be killed. And if it is injured (down) or sick or anything it does not go out into the public.
And like I said - how can you consider yourself to be such a damn expert.
Your from the city you don't understand agriculture
The corporation requires that the lines be run at such a fast pace that workers cannot keep up. Animals are "stunned" using a captive bolt gun. This is an air compression gun that shoots out a 10 inch spike into the brain of the animal. Animals move to avoid it, it takes skill and time to stun an animal that isn't moving, and the operator has to do this hundreds/thousands of times a day. THAT is why so many are still conscious throughout slaughter.
Griffencph: Nothing new there. What most people dont' realize is just how horrific and widespread this type of abuse is. Nor, do they realize the consequences to their own health. Why did E-coli start showing up about 20 years ago? Processing lines sped up, downer cows were processed. Mad Cow disease can take up to 20 years to show up in a human. This comes from spinal/brain tissue. Industry estimates show that 35% of meat are contaminated with spinal/brain matter.ANYONE WANT A BURGER NOW?
farmerthomasf: The fact is that animals are "units" in factory farms now and this downer was treated more humanely than most. However, this is still cruelty and you damn well know it. All meateaters and agribusiness' and their stockholders are totally responsible for this.
this is not a normal activity. A down cow is a bad thing that does not occur because of people. These animals hurt themselves and this happens on all farms. not just factory one's. And all a unit is is a way of accounting for animals. They are considered to be animals though. and depending on the species one animal may not be one unit. It's alot more complex than any of you realize it to be
Any decent person would put this poor creature out of misery.... Oh wait - they were raised just for this - in a miserable factory farm - Sick! Meat is government sanctioned murder. For heart & health- GO VEGAN!
It does not surprise me that the greedy corporate executives would give employees orders to do this, but it does surprise me that the employees consider keeping their jobs so important that they would engage in this barbaric practice.
No shit, Sherlock. So why are you telling me? I said nothing about farmers. I was talking about employees of *FACTORY * FARMS*, which have nothing to do with FARMERS or farming. Get your facts straight.
I have never seen such a cruel thich bunch of humans in my life the poor cow as you could see was so tired and weak he just wanted to rest how would that ignorant fat dick like it if i stood next to him while he was resting stuck a prod in and electrocuted him.
Fordescort, just like people, cows can also lie flat on the floor because they just don't want to follow your instructions. Same thing with horses and dogs and... you name it.
But OK, even as a former cattle hauler, I didn't like the forklift, and I've always been against electric devices as described in my comment around number 90.
makes me cry :'(

Furthermore today nearly every cow is
inseminated artificially by man, not by a bull. Nearly no bull is used for breeding. Economically its too costy...
The human being enslaves and exploits nearly every creature to a maximum.

There's just no SENSE in it. Harming an animal even more because it was harmed so much that it can't walk.
This is what dairy does! Eggs are even worse. Please, go vegan.
Vegannibal 3 years ago
thank you so much vegan but please do not ignore that all people will not follow this diet and see the need to get involved in strengthening governmental regulations on farm animal treatment. good luck! thanks!
poosaypirate 3 years ago
I know that not all people will become vegan (and it's not only a diet, vegans don't wear clothing made by animals, or use soap that was tested on animals, etc), but the more education there is about the issue and about nutrition, the more people go vegan. When people find out that it's possible, healthy and reasonable to lead a non-violent lifestyle (veganism) they are more open to the idea.
Vegannibal 2 years ago
the treatment of livestock in corporate farms is mainly the reason why we at the restaurant in which i am a chef use locally raised non growth hormone injected "free range" cattle and "free range" chicken eggs think globally act locally until i find a local dairy farm that can provide safe milk at a price i can afford unfortunately im just going to deal with what the cow delivers currently
vbiel2 2 years ago
Well we can also use healthier things that don't use animals too, like almond milk or rice milk (or soy milk though I don't like it lol). There are lots of great options that don't use animals. Also technically, cows and chickens doesn't "deliver" or "give" milk and eggs, it's taken from them. This isn't an attack on you, so please don't take it that way, it's just info. take care.
Vegannibal 2 years ago
You see what your dairy does to these sentient beings?! Don't think it doesn't kill and harm. Please, please, it's time to go vegan.
It's a lousy way to treat ourselves and our planet, to torture animals their entire lives so much that they can't even walk, and then hurt them some more because they have collapsed from all the suffering!!!
Vegannibal 3 years ago
its not the way there transported it the suffering. put the animal down the move it.

Yes on 2 in California (2008).
You have to specify because people can be confused. Yes on 2 may means cows, chickens, and pigs get to move and stretch here but means no gay marriage in florida.
KaleidoKat 3 years ago
Why on earth are there cattle lying around like that completely dehydrated and obviously dying? The people that hire these workers seriously need to evaluate who and who is not fit for the job. Oh and I would like to cut off that fat piece of lard's nuts for thinking he was "the big man" with his electrocution rod.
BlondeRocketQueen 3 years ago
This is deplorable treatment of cattle. I grew up on a farm and would never tolerate this; the vast majority of farmers would never condone this--any mistreatment of an animal is cause for immediate dismissal.
OctKindness 3 years ago 2
if they spent a little more money to provide a better system, so there wouldn't be so many downer cows (concrete floor issues) (maybe organic, free range) then there wouldnt be so many problems, but businesses are so cheap and only care about money and profit, they are souless and only see numbers on these cows.

this video has made me cringe, I feel sorry for this cow and all others that have been misstreated. I work on a dairy farm and I can safely say I have never witnessed a downer cow being treated this way.Downer cows on the farms I work on are helped up with patience, sometimes left to be on their own to get up in their own time if they are not in pain or danger. Not all farms have so little respect for their livestock.

You can throw them or roll them.
You can drag them or carry them.
Griffencph 3 years ago
If they were to remove cattle from the face of earth, why have the trouble moving it at all? Why not just shoot it and leave it for the nature to get rid of? It's not like this is the only way they practise!
Griffencph 3 years ago

They do not put them out of the misery because if they can fake a breath into them they can still slaughter them, hence get their blood money.
jodyrea 3 years ago
I am the nephew of the owner of Greencastle Livestock Market where this even took place. Every one on here that lets these comments about how bad this is, really does not know a thing about the farming industry. Yes some of these animals are downed because of disease but when we receive these animals there is nothing we can do about them. These cows are weighing up to 1800 lbs and the only way to move them is by a skid loader. Most of these cows are just to old and this leads to weakness
tcoy13 3 years ago
Then explain to me exactly why it was necessary to torment her the way she was?? She was shocked, kicked, punched, had her tail twisted and pulled, you name it. I can understand that the animals might arrive that way, but is the almighty dollar worth THAT MUCH to you that you couldn't just humanely euthanize her where she lay and THEN move her? There is a LOT you can do. You can be HUMANE and COMPASSIONATE about her suffering, instead of just thinking about getting money out of her!!
Lilmosey 3 years ago
And the comment "too old"? What a joke! Dairy cows are used up & spent long before they have even a remote chance to become "old". They are pushed to the limit, have their calves yanked away at birth, all in the name of money. Cows can live long lives when raised the way they were meant to be. Factory farming has eliminated everything remotely "normal" for these poor creatures. The weakness comes from being forced to produce thousands of pounds of milk unnaturally. At least be honest please.
Lilmosey 3 years ago
We are a livestock MARKET! We dont raise these animals! As a human it doesnt even hurt us to get kicked and punched that hard... A dairy cow that is already half dead sure as hell isnt gonna fell it that bad... now the shocking part was a little cruel but that was the only part of this that was. People need to relax and get a life and stop worrying about someone else's business and worry about there own.
tcoy13 3 years ago
This IS our business. It involves the cruel depths to which humans now stoop due to factory farming & greed. Tail twisting is extremely painful to cows. There are thousands of nerve endings in the tail. No sentient being should be punched or kicked for ANY reason. If you're sick & already in pain, do you want to be punched, kicked or shocked? If we don't make this our business, God only knows how much worse it will get! I'll relax when the curelty & abuses STOP for GOOD.
Lilmosey 3 years ago
I am Ukrainian and my lineage is farming there is no such thing as real farming in today's world. Is it not enough they fill your pocket book they need to be tossed like garbage - farming does not exist anymore and if you call that farming I pity you. My grandfather did what he had to do - but this is sick and would have never been done on our farms - if they have a pulse you still can slaughter them today tumours and all. They never had downers back then unlike today's miserable killing fields.
jodyrea 3 years ago 2
The reason we have downers today is becuase of the squalor and filth they live in their whole miserable lives. The cheapest feed possible, anti-biotics to name a few drugs pumped into them. The cruel and inhumane treatment they get on a daily basis. It is no wonder people feel nothing about life or the livng anymore eating anaimls reared in those conditions- it seems to destroy the emotive part of the human brain - do defend this is sick.
jodyrea 3 years ago
tcoy: It is illegal in the US to slaughter a downed animal. Cows normally will live to 20 under natural conditions.
fishmarc 3 years ago 2
I am a dairy farmer that sends cows to this facility. Farmers do all they can to make their cows cormfortable. We rely on them for our living and to provide milk and meat for the world. Cows are large(1200-1600 lbs normally) movement can be difficult. Down cow situations are disheartening for farmers. Sometimes, despite our best efforts and veterinary care, they don't get up and must be euthanized. Fortunately that doesn't happen often. I will speak with the owners to work out a solution.
dairy2999 3 years ago
How about you get a new job? Animals are not produce for us to make our living off of. They have lives of their own! And you want to go and profit off of them!? Downed cows are disheartening for you because that is one less animal for you to sell and make money off of. Why are cows downed in the first place? Let's see...neglect, disease, untreated injury, etc. We would object to our own children being exploited, so why are animals any different?
tuffenoughtorock 3 years ago
Actually cattle are produce, people do make their living off of them and if all animal farmers stopped tomorrow, there would be a serious food shortage/economic crash that would damage all of us. And BTW, I'm mostly vegan myself these days. But I'm a vagan who values diversity and actually listens to people talk about their lives. Try it. You might learn something. You might find real solutions instead of mean/usless things to say on the internet.

There is nothing wrong with eating meat!
Maybe you can educate me on this and tell me wat you plan to do with a cow/goat/chicken..etc population dat matchs if not exceeds human
jjali 4 years ago 2
jjali:
The cow population would deplete if humans didn't genetically enhance the DNA in our livestocks to grow them faster and meatier. Some live stocks body parts grow much faster then other body parts and they become deformed or become ill with disease. The United States alone slaughters 10 billion of live stocks a year and majority of them are genetically modified foods. I have followed GMO foods for many years and you wouldn't believe what they are doing today with our foods.
solarcycles 4 years ago
I can completly agree with you on that part. What they are doing these days with our food is something that a very significantly low % of the population realizes. Thats why I barely every eat from outside and get most of my meat from a family owned farm. But with that said, if they werent genetically enhancing our food anywhere in the world, the population will still grow to be extremly large if everyone in da world just turned vegetarain all of a sudden. and I'm not just talking abt cow popul
jjali 4 years ago
jjali:
Anything is possible in our world but to be frank. Our society will not turn into vegetarians overnight or few decades from now, only few % will. Majority of the humans are sheep and rather look the other way because its convenient. What frightens me is that GMO has been in our diet from every different seeds known to man have been altered to feed humans and live stocks.
solarcycles 4 years ago
During my studies I have discovered biologist Rick Howard and his colleagues have discovered a paradox that crops up when new genes are deliberately inserted into a fish's chromosomes to make the animal grow larger. While the genetically modified fish will be bigger and have more success at attracting mates, they may also produce offspring that are less likely to survive to adulthood. If this occurs, as generations pass, a population could dwindle in size and, potentially, disappear entirely.

Unless you go completely vegan (and I mean REAL vegan, not vegan-wannabe) then you are still part of the problem. The cow that was used to make your leather shoes/belt/purse/car seats is just as mistreated and dead as the cow that ends up in pieces and neatly wrapped in your local grocery store.
uitdieblou08 4 years ago
Being American has nothing to do with it. If you eat meat, use products tested on animals, etc, you are contributing to this. Btw I am a vegetarian and use all products NOT tested on animals. Americans are just as bad as anyone else...so get off your high horse and educate yourself.

fishmarc 4 years ago 3
farmerthomasf: Agribusiness takes great pains to keep the truth hidden to the point where USDA inspectors are not allowed within the plant itself. There is a station at the front of the building and one at the back where the processed meat comes out. Percentages of live animals at slaughter vary between 10% to 35% at any given slaughterhouse. This is due to animals being considered "unit" to be processed as quickly as possible.
fishmarc 4 years ago
well thats just great for you.
and you do not understand it, you don't even no what goes on. All you no is these bull shit video's you all believe.
farmerthomasf 4 years ago
farmerthomasf: Please read the book "Slaughterhouse" which was written by a reporter who traveled from coast to coast investigating the larger abattoirs. It's not just the animals that are abused, the workers spoke freely with her about just what happens inside, behind closed doors and how THEY are abused and then take it out on the animals. You need to become informed. The agri-business corporations are making too much money to ever be honest about it.
fishmarc 4 years ago
yeah actually this video would have been put on by a vegatarian most likly.
And ecoli will happen. not nessassarily because of a sick cow. And I no that here in Canada there are some very strick rules about what can be killed. And if it is injured (down) or sick or anything it does not go out into the public.
And like I said - how can you consider yourself to be such a damn expert.
Your from the city you don't understand agriculture
farmerthomasf 4 years ago
The corporation requires that the lines be run at such a fast pace that workers cannot keep up. Animals are "stunned" using a captive bolt gun. This is an air compression gun that shoots out a 10 inch spike into the brain of the animal. Animals move to avoid it, it takes skill and time to stun an animal that isn't moving, and the operator has to do this hundreds/thousands of times a day. THAT is why so many are still conscious throughout slaughter.
fishmarc 4 years ago
I have actually seen a bolted cow getting back to its legs and walking since the vet at the farm fire was "rusty" on the bolt gun.
The cow was re-shot and a stick actually stirred in the brain of the cow. It kept standing untill a fireman pushed it over.
Griffencph 3 years ago
Griffencph: Nothing new there. What most people dont' realize is just how horrific and widespread this type of abuse is. Nor, do they realize the consequences to their own health. Why did E-coli start showing up about 20 years ago? Processing lines sped up, downer cows were processed. Mad Cow disease can take up to 20 years to show up in a human. This comes from spinal/brain tissue. Industry estimates show that 35% of meat are contaminated with spinal/brain matter.ANYONE WANT A BURGER NOW?
fishmarc 3 years ago
how the hell would you no any of this. And no animals do not get slaughtered alive
farmerthomasf 4 years ago
Eh, slaughtered, wouldn't that be one of those few things that you can't do neither dead nor alive?
Or did I misinterprit that (I'm not a native english speaker, sorry).
Griffencph 3 years ago
that is not true. there are so many regulations out there. these animals are not going to the slaughter house to be fed to humans.
farmerthomasf 4 years ago
farmerthomasf: The fact is that animals are "units" in factory farms now and this downer was treated more humanely than most. However, this is still cruelty and you damn well know it. All meateaters and agribusiness' and their stockholders are totally responsible for this.
fishmarc 4 years ago
this is not a normal activity. A down cow is a bad thing that does not occur because of people. These animals hurt themselves and this happens on all farms. not just factory one's. And all a unit is is a way of accounting for animals. They are considered to be animals though. and depending on the species one animal may not be one unit. It's alot more complex than any of you realize it to be
farmerthomasf 4 years ago
I THINK...
Human is one of the worst animal...
