  • Anyone please help..... I have a 60" Philips Magnavox Rear Projection TV. One of the 2005 models. It has the component input. Can I get a high HD resolution if I get the component cables for my PS3 or 360?

  • Dang, I didn't know it was that easy. Silly me I bought 4, 50inch hd tv's

  • hey i have a modulater that i use to play my ps2 on the tv will it work with the cables i got for my psp?

  • ZELDAAAAAA

  • Much like Josh Flitter has made for an Ace Ventura 3, this kid could make for a "Borat 2".

  • norway sucks balls

  • Very good video! Personally I always turn off all artificial sharpness. Btw, Mayflash released a VGA cable for Wii+PS3 which provides an even better picture with Wii. It's still using the Wii's component out but it transcodes the digital video to VGA instead of analog component.

  • my tv looks better in 1080p

  • Hey i just bought a 19 inch HDTV ready (720p) for using Component cables to record games on my ps3, but the quality of the Component Looks almost as bad as Composite, is it the TV?

  • wiiii

  • You are better off leaving the 360 in 720p v 1080i

  • whats you gamertag i wanna add u on xbox live.

  • It's a good idea, to be honest...but I honestly would rather spend about 40-50 dollars on a component switch with 4 inputs than have to deal with jaggedness.

That's what I plan on doing, at least :D

  • Buying qulity is allways the safe way to go.

But this method will not give you more jaggies. The reason for the jaggies is the Wii's lack of a true HD signal.

  • Well what I meant by that was the black on white contrast. If it is a black screen with white letters (on the wii) the white letters will have very rough edges. This also occurs with in-game text.

  • nice tv... i have the same one, but it has a dead spot now and im sad :(

  • u sound like a smurf

  • Most people say I sound like Kermit the frog ^^

But I'll add smurf to the list.

  • lol :D smerfs are cool anyway. was a good video. iddnt think that component would make a diffo to the wii. spose its all about how the infomation is transmited

  • i have a question... i have a HDTV but its not PURE HD , its just HD ready... but i use 1080p setting on my xbox360 .. is it OK ??? because i noticed that 1080p looks better then 720p/1080i

  • In theory 1080p shouldn't work at all.

But if it works and looks better. Keep it at 1080p ;)

  • how much cost a normal HDMI switcher that still gives you good qualtitie, a switcher with 1output that goes into my tv and with 3inputs that goes into the switcher, for my xbox, corder and later maybe an other machine xD

    greets

  • I highly recommend Talismoon HDMI Auto Switch !I couldn't be more satisfied :)

    Price is about 30$

  • this is exactly what I need, thank you VERY much!!!

  • I just got the gold plated 1.3a HDMI cable and it looks waaaay better then the component cord that came with the Xbox 360.

Get the GOOD cable. $26 at Walmart.

  • Well I had never seen Component do 1080p until My friend bought himself a new TV.

So It is possible. But if this is true 1080p I don't know. But the xbox was sett on 1080p and the tv said it was displaying in 1080p.

If you goggle it you'll see that many people run 1080p via component.

  • Component is still an analog signal. HDMI is a digital signal. I sell tv's and audio equipment for a living and I have never seen component do 1080p. It's 1080i at the most.

And generally I wouldn't use hdmi over 10m, but if I were I'd use monster. The thicker the cable, the longer it can be.

    My 2c.

  • So you are one of those guys at future shop or bestbuy that sell that bullshit when you have no idea what your talking about. I just want to say FUCK YOU! Coponent is meant for 1080P and carries the signal flawlessly unless there is tons of interference which most people dont have. And i just bought a 16' 11$ HDMI cable off ebay and it works flawlessly with 1080P. I hat cock suckers like you that sell people shit they dont need and act like proffesionals. Moster cable is a HUGE SCAM!!

  • "the twee sixty! and the wee!"

  • they are the same just the hdmi comes all in one cable! and has mor options for audio...

  • hey the old dashboard

  • tree sixty lol

  • snap lol

  • hdmi and component 1080p are the same.

I do not see any difference. If there is , i do not notice and i have nice tv's

  • So, which is better, DVI or component? HDMI or component? The answer--unsatisfying, perhaps, but true--is that it depends. It depends upon your source and display devices, and there's no good way, in principle, to say in advance whether the digital or the analog connection will render a better picture. You may even find, say, that your DVD player looks better through its DVI or HDMI output, while your satellite or xbox looks better through its component output, on the same display.

  • man jst play lol

  • component can't submit 1080P only 1080i

  • dude. i have a 360 and it has a component and the resolution goes up to 1080p.

  • Sorry just found out yesterday that it can submit 1080p, but dvi and hdmi are still a bit better. If you have long component cables the quality goes a bit down with dvi and hdmi it doesn´t

  • unless you are using optic fiber, there IS interference in hdmi when the length increases. so quality can go down with increased hdmi length.

  • @GuyMan89 Component cables can do 1080p easily, but today, as a gimmick, most HD TVs do not allow component to provide 1080p, but only up to 1080i. They do that to force you into buying HDMI cables.

  • on my 360 component looks like crap compared to hdmi. the only good thing about component is the graphics are smoother but the picture is so fuckin dark. hdmi is more crisp looking but there is more jaggies in brighter areas of games

  • hdmi

  • nice hat

  • Thanks man

  • I bought last year a universal Philips component cable for the wii and a couple of green line was showing now. Then i try it on my old model ps2 console but i can't see anything i guess the old model doesnt have component then I try it on my ps3 and it works. But i got the mad catz universal svideo cable and it works on both wii and ps2. Could the component cable be damage?

  • Hard to say for certain. But it could be the cable.

When using your PS2 be sure to go into the system menu and turn on the component output.

  • The sound doesn't work

  • as stated in the video, the sound has to be connected through another method, like a receiver or another switch.

If you have done the rest correctly you should have a red and white cable that is not connected to the main av switch.

  • no wat u on dude, composite and component are diffreent, component is HD even though its analouge

  • Signal is different. not the Cables.

  • Wrong, try to carry a Component signal through a Composite (Yellow, Red & White) it doesn't work. You need special Component cables to be able to carry the 720i. The signal can only work properly if it has the right leads, Thats why component leads exist.

  • em... did you watch the video?

I and now many other people send component signals via the composite cabels. This video proves it. I made this video in jan 07, and have since then had 720p and 1080i with composit cables.

Here's a small experiment for you. Buy composite cable extenders, connect them to your component cables and connect them to your Tv (in the component port). You will get a HD signal ;)

  • you should set your 360 to 720p instead of 480i

1080i is the oldest kind of hd technology and it is really 540p because of the interlaced lines

720p is more crisp and better

  • Read the Video Info ;)

  • i use 1080p its really 1080p lol

  • I have PS2 and 32" HDready Samsung LE32R7bd television.

At the moment I use old PSX S-video cable because in my mind it gives the best picture.

It's much better than the composite video but much smoother than the component video.

I can't tell how the picture would look with RGB-cables since I haven't got any working ones.

Third party cables can be such a rip off.

  • Hey I just bought the Mad catz wii component cords and everything looks mega jaggy and also there is weird stuff going on in the background.

For example in no more heroes on the first level it is displaying a wierd pattern on the carpet..when in fact the carpet should be plain.

also the picture is really grainy and there are scanlines present.

someone please tell me how I can fix this.

  • Go in the Tv-menu and turn down the sharpness. That should help.

  • Thanks but I think ill just give component a miss and play my ii on a crt tv.

  • i have a wii with compenent cables on a 46" hdtv, and there are hardly any jaggies, unless im playing a under-developed game.

    They make a difference

  • thats wot i want,a used gow keychain haha. rrod hoes

  • so let me this straight if you buy component cables for the wii it'll make the games more jaggie? cause I own a 360 and component looks good on my 1080i HDTV. But wii can only do 480p. last gen consoles were able to do 480p

  • component cables for wii/ps2 make the jaggies that are already there more visable, Many HDtv owners have their tv sett to super sharp etc, this adds even more interferance.

So be sure to check your sharpness settings if you get jaggies.

  • yeah I usually keep my sharpness to about 50 percent cause I kno that doesn't make a difference. I never max out my TV sharpness. the only problem with one of my tv's is that its' a 61" inch DLP. And 480p will look like shit on that giant thing.

  • The improvement in quality is quite big though. I would never recomend standard cables over Component.

  • Same thing in a 58" Plasma

  • woah i find that strange, component cables shouldn't affect any graphics at all, only clearness.

  • Component cables the jaggies that are already there more visable. They don't effect the graphics.

Old tv's mask jaggies cause the picture is so blury. But HDtv's has a clear image with no blur.

  • what exactly are "jaggies?"

  • Jaggies are stairlike lines that appear where there should be smooth straight lines or curves.

  • oh ok.

  • hi, i have recently upgraded my ps2 to Component cables(my tv didnt have any composite available). after i upgraded i noticed it was alot better. but i noticed one slightly bad thing. my tv started to alightly flicker and there were a few more jagged lines, do i have to set something on my TV??

  • This is because you now clearly see things a bad signal would hide. You can go into the tv settings and turn down the sharpness to get less jagged lines.

  • You need to buy a new high def TV LCD or Plasma as your CRT TV just won't give you the best picture any more. Its like that with computer monitors too. I had a Samsung 15GLe CRT monitor and it was wonderful but now i have a Samsung SyncMaster 915n and it is even better!

  • that's what i did

    u know your stuff

    your gf name is kabosa

  • i think we have the same tv ? Kdf Series ? i ended up using 720p, i think it's look better and better framerate ?

  • Not sure what series mine is, but I know the version that is newer than mine has noticeably better 720p than 1080i.

  • Okay I have a question. I just bought a 5.1 home theater system and a 22" 720p samsung HDTV. My home theater doesnt have an HDMI input so I was thinking about getting composite cables because they seem to be the best alternative. However, they dont seem to have audio. its only video.

what do you think would be the best audio cable? and how do i know if my systems are compatible with them?

  • Most component cables have audio out as well. That would be the red and white cables that are a bit separated from the rest.

But for the best sound you should use optical cables if your setup support. Most new system have optical solutions.

  • Also 480p isn't really HD per se.

  • 1080i is worse than 720p... interlacing will always be worse than progressive...

  • Yes. in theory it's true.

But on MY tv 1080i looks better. (I know what looks best on my own tv)

720p will always be the better signal, but it depends on the tv how good it shows. My Tv doesn't show 720p that good, that's MY TVs fault. And therefor 1080i looks better on it.

  • Well it's not really a theory but closer to being a fact. Yes you tv is a bit strange... but when comparing higher end tv's you will indefinitely get a better resolution/contrast/response time/etc with 720p. It may also be that your tv only supports 1080i max, those tv's that only support 1080i will be a bit strange. I have a bravia and it obviously shows 1080p better.

  • Now this post I agree with 100% :)

  • If you have a 1080p tv with a good deinterlacer or use a separate video processor to deinterlace the 1080i signal there is no reason 1080p should look any different nor should 720p be better. A properly deinterlaced 1080i signal should be frame for frame identical to the 1080p signal.

  • dude where's Miss Piggy?

  • she's in bed sleeping ;p

  • you sound like kermit the frog in some sentences. lol!

  • 60hz? i have 2 have my 360 on 50hz otherwise its toooo slow

  • ok so i got my insignia tv to work with the compenent but i did the white red and yellow into the green blue and red., but its black and white and no sound. do u know how to make this work?

  • You can use any A/V switch. but you have to connect the sound via something else. I have two A/V switches. One for picture and one for sound.

  • I know you got asked this before, but what size is your TV

  • It's a 50" TV ;)

  • Whne you plug in a 360 to a TV

  • component is actualy also rgb it sends the contrast, the red and the blue signal independently, the greeen signal is carried with the contrast, but since the green signal is (digitaly??) interpolated,it will never destorb eachother, thus creating rgb.

  • i have a 45'sony tv,and when i play grand theft auto hoe do i het rid of those jagged line, please HElp?

  • Somebody please help me, when i use the components cable for my xbox 360 the picture is hd quality but their is no sound atall therefore i boguth a hdmi cable and used that and i get sound through that but the picture fades away and goes all balck after like 5 seconds but i can still hear it. I dont know what to do. Please Help

  • it's probley your TV. if u have a projector hdmi Tv then that means most likely your projector is waring out.

  • My guess would be you didn't connect the audio cables.

  • be sure your switch is a good shielded one though, any one will work, but only the best of quality for hd, hdmi doesn't need that much shielding as component video does because component is anolog

  • how much is the wii component cable?

  • its like 30$ but if you have component compatible tv its a must-get. if you have a 1080p/i tv id get the monster component cables, though they are a whopping 60$ but the colors are very very nice.

  • You could also go on ebay and buy a generic one for a dollar.

  • With a regular A/V switch you do that? wow.. but here is my question, does it work with any av switch? and the sound? how you manage to switch the audio from the 360 to the wii for example?

  • lolwiigraphics

  • Whats the difference between 1080i and 1080p' which is better? He had 480p for wii which i guess is high def while 480i isnt but he had 1080i for the 360.

  • any one, i have a regular tv tube , remeber the big ones lol anyway, it has componets on it. i have 360 hook uped to it. i also tried looking to see it the tv would tell me in a menu or somthing like that, question is you guys think its running at 480 or 720 i or p thanks, sorry so long

  • You are running at 480i on that tv

  • lol i figure but was hopen thanks

  • Can someone help me with my component leads my screen just flashes like crazy but its at the same points each time on my 360 help

  • ...It beats out any HDTV, since there's no upscaling,no lag and no motion blur, and most importantly, CRTs still have the best picture peroid

  • Shouldn't you be setting your 360 at 720p?

Also the Wii no matter what, will always look blown up and have some slight lag when upscaling to 720p,1080i or p, the higher the upscaling the wose the picture. As it stands if you can find a 480p native display, the Wii will be perfect. Besides that, the Wii looks best on a flatscreen 480i display using component cables....

  • I know 360 is "best" in 720p.

But On my TV 1080i displays better.

Probably something wrong with my TV.

At my friends TV 720p does looks better.

  • Oh cool just sayin

  • u need to change your 360 to 720p for optimum quality u have it on 1080i thinking its better but 720p is better than 1080i because its progressive not interlaced

    1080p high definition progressive full

    720p high definition progressive

    1080i-high definition interlaced

    480p-increased definition

    480i-standard definition

  • I only think 1080i is better for ME cause' it does look better. I have tested a lot of games.

And again, this is on my TV.

I'w seen many TV's that show better on 720p than 1080i. And while 720p is technically better, it doesn't change the fact of what does look better at home.

  • u got same tv as me :)

  • Is that an LCD or projection HDTV? Msg me.

  • IT's a LCD back projection HDTV.

    It's a sony bravia.

  • I like HDMI better more convenient one cable on 5 or 3

  • ps2 sucks on hdtv, i got the monster cable for ps2 the colors looks better that av but the games still look horrible unless the game has progressive scan which only a few games has...at least some of my fav game has progressive scan

  • that tv looks like a hdtv

  • ... it is a HDtv

  • what is a seerwees?

  • what size of tv is that

  • 50"

  • skikkelig bra video

  • takk duh ^^

  • Component cables go up to 1080i so there still pretty good

  • they go up to 1080p, ive got it on 1080p on my 360, you may be thinking of the cable boxes.

  • no,DonnyWatcher911 is right component cables can only support up to 1080i hdmi cables are the only ones that can support full 1080p

  • then how come with the Xbox 360 that component cable allows you to set it up to 1080p?

  • im gunna get the monster component cable for wii...monster does make expensive but good quality manufaccturing

  • i have a tv that has 1366 x 768 what would be best for me to have on a 360 720p or 1080i???

  • Test both and see what you like best ;)

  • good accent

    are you french?

    btw good vdieo makes sence

  • Tnx :)

    I'm Norwegian.

  • does it work on a normal TV. If it does is there any difference

  • Nope. This only works on a HDTV.

  • I can't believe some of the crap that gets posted on YouTube. Generally this guy is correct, but he keeps misusing terminology...Component Cable are necessarily "HD cables", and Component and Composite are different connections, they are not interchangeable

  • I don't really understand your point. But yeah, I probably misuse some of the terminology. But this video still solves a expencive problem in a cheap way ;)

  • They are the same connector type, as in both Composite and Component use RCA connectors. They are not interchangeable because they use different signals. This is what the guy said, pay attention before you start bashing.

  • thank you ShokaLion :)

  • You say: Component Cable are necessarily "HD cables"

Not true. 480P uses Component, and 480P is NOT and HD format.

You say: Component and Composite are different connections, they are not interchangeable.

Yes and no. Component is the same connector as Composite (RCA). You're right - they're not interchangeable. Did he say they were interchangeable? Maybe, but I didn't hear it.

  • fhddfhdfghddfh let me ask YOU can you get 480P useing composite cables? NO even though its not hd you can also get 720P and 1080i with component which is HD

  • haha kermit the frog

  • I have a Polaroid tv 1080p LCD HDTV an my xbox 360. I connected my xbox 360 to my HDTV using the component cables (green, blue, red+red, white.) and when i turn on my tv and I got to my xbox 360 it says 480p and yes I do have the 360 cable on HDTV! I would AMAZINGLY appreciate if u would help me!!!!!!!

  • what you have to do is go to System on the Xbox dashboard, pick Console Settings then Display then HDTV settings then you can choose 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, ofcourse since you have a full HDTV choose 1080p, enjoy.

  • Not sure, but your problem may be using the component interface.

I think you might need to use DVI, or HDMI, or HDCP in order to get 1080P. But I don't know for sure.

  • I can not wait to try this! Does it matter which color goes where? This will save me a small fortune if it works! Great tip - I can not find anything else about it on the web.

  • Hi ^^

It doesn't matter what color goes where as long as you make sure that you connect them the same way on both sides.

So if you put Green in White make sure that a wire goes from white into the green hole on your TV.

And post a comment when you get this to work ^^ tnx

  • It worked perfectly! Thanks for saving me some dough!

  • u sound like kermit the frog lol.

  • haha. My accent is awful ^^

  • thx man have u got msn? i got more questions about ps 3

  • Send your questions via private mail. I don't use msn anymore =)

  • yeah diemetrix i have a question: i will get a ps 3 on june next year (i know its very late) and i have a normal TV (no HD and other things just normal TV) and there are three colours in my TV red, white, yellow. When i got my ps 3 will they have this cable connector with the same colours or should i buy it seperated

  • You will get the yellow, white , red cable with your ps3. But for best picture quality on standard TV i recommend getting a PS3 RGB cable.

  • anybody whos still on the fence about component/composite.. heres what u need to consider: composite looks decent on a a composite (big clunky CRT) tv... however, composite video will look pretty crappy on a LCD tv (trust me, ive seen it, its bad).. so component really does make a difference on those TVs.. the colors are better, crisper, clearer, on top of that you get progressive scan instead of interlanced video.. lots of pluses

  • The wii can do 1080p with just the right TV and scaler converter!

  • not TRUE 1080p, your tuner would just upconvert (double the lines) the 480p signal to make it look like 1080p. to be true 1080p the wii itself would have to put out a 1080p signal through the component cables, without any upconversion.

  • That is correct pancake man.

  • How come the ps2 looks pretty bad on an lcd screen , using component.Would it look better on plasma? or just ordinary tube tv?

  • no it can't it barely does 480p at times.

  • Why did he use 1080i, thats like the equivilent of 540p becuase the way it is displayed, if he used 720p it would look better.

  • Not necessary some people actually prefer 1080i over 720p or even 1080p, cause by nature it has higher framerates more than twice that of 1080p which is great for some games such as sports games and fast moving games etc.

  • what a cool dude , rare to see computer game/tech fans that don't talk utter bollocks for once on youtube ,

  • is all ps2 games in 480i

  • Great explanation, thanks, could you send me an address to get a component switcher, because I really need it now ^^. Thanks. See you.

  • I bought the switch at a random electronic store. I guess you can get them real cheap on ebay. Ebay even has cheap full Component switches.

  • MAKE A VID WHEN YOU GET PS3... CAUSE IT USES 1080p.. AND THATS REAL HD SHIT :p..

GOOD EXPLANATION PAL.. HAVE A GOOD DAY

  • thanks man, ill give it a shot. how big is ur plasma TV, its nice. We have a 120cm plasma :) lol

  • The tv is a 50" back projection LCD tv. If you wanna a see a huuuge screen see my video called "project usefull" ;)

  • hey, i plugged the blue red green cables into the blue red green bit and the other ones apart from the yellow, theres picture but no sound, any ideas?

  • Did you plugg them directly into the tv?

If you plugged all the right cables into your TV I guess you need to go into your TV's menu and choose that you want sound from the component port on your TV. Make sure you plugged the red and white cables where they should be, Those cables transmit the sound.

  • And, tell me, the graphics get better? or it looks like the same than Yellow/Red/White Cable? THANKS

  • Component signal is much better than Yellow/Red/White (composite)

  • HAHAHAHAHA, YOU CANT BE SERIOUS?! RGB-cables=HDMI. Yellow/Red/White cables=Normal. sigh...

  • The graphics dont improve, just the colours and amount of pixels

  • this guy is so cool.............

  • ive only just got a HD TV so I'm pretty new when component cables come into things, you've got the standard white red and yellow inputs for composite so you're saying that I just plug in the blue red and green ones from my 360 instead right?
