Michael Romeo is the greatest. It's pretty incredible how he manages to produce some of the most insanely technical guitar playing in the world while also writing great, catchy, powerful metal songs. There are a lot of good metal bands out there, but to me Symphony X just nails every element that makes a great band. Amazing musicians, excellent songwriting, awesome live performances and one of the best singers in metal today- Symphony X is one of the greatest forces in modern metal.

I read an interview with Michael Romeo in which he stated that he was very nervous during the recording of this video. You can hear him slur some in the beginning of the video, yes. The concept is to show some of the most complex licks in neoshredding or whatever you wanna call it to kids who are beginners. I bet if Romeo would have had the choice, he'd probably just would tell the wievers to fuck this video and just play with your ears. Cause that's what you gotta learn sooner or later.

This is completely incorrect.

Scalloped (full board done) and partialy scalloped fretboards (just the top frets done) create huge changes in the way you need to play guitar.

By only coming into contact with the string and not the fretboard you create a lot less friction for vibrato and bending. It gives you much more control over these aspects once the technique is mastered.

The techniue itself is the disadvantage for most players. You need a very light touch which is unatural to most.

Romeo could probably play on a scalopped neck if he wanted to but my guess is that he chooses not to.
