  • The woman in the video is his wife. She was the daughter of the most famous conductor of his time, Toscanini. This video is from the mid-80's. Horowitz died in 1989. What a remarkable talent he had for playing his instrument!

  • Never have I heard somebody extract so much glitter and sparkle from a simple pentatonic scale as Chopin in has done here!

  • stunning hands!!

  • LOL! Amazing, excellent!! So fast hands!

  • もしかして、自宅で奧さんと?

  • this is yundi li...

  • ...

  • @theblueisyou LOL how?

  • at the end of the piece, that old lady looking @ him like: "you're lucky this is not 40 yrs ago, I'd have taken out all my PMS on you; now I'm too even play with myself."

  • THIS IS AN AMERICAN STEINWAY, BECAUSE OF ITS SQUARE PARTS, AND THE INTERIOR IS BLACK, WHILE THE GERMAN'S ARE WOODEN

  • Duuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ...... you're listening to what was the greatest living pianist of all time.

  • I've never seen a pianist play like that. His hands seem to come up from under the kayboard. Nice though,

  • and so evennnnn

  • so lighttttttt

  • that's a man, baby!

  • What a hero, I miss His playing, The greatest old man in history

  • HOROWITZ, EVERYONE OF HIS FINGERS: TAC TAC TAC TAC TAC. THIS TECNIC IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET, AND TO UNDERSTAND.

  • 1:28 - Wow those octaves... I could never get them fast.

  • yeah, wife, sick of hearing by now... just wants to go for coffee and talk his ear off... funny seeing him play in a living room... this clip makes him a bit more human...

  • lol his wife looks mad at him

  • with his wife Wanda Toscanini...

  • Amazing technique, he barely moves his arms and wrist, its all in the fingers and that is why it is so light!!

  • When Vladimir Horowitz gets very old,he got flat big nose.OMG.I hope he could play Rachmaninov. The fastest pianist. It was hard to play.Nobody plays rachmaninov.Only Horowitz could play Rachmaninov. There's one person play rachmaninov.Only horowitz. He is the great pianist in the world. He could play it fast.

  • What an unique interpretation, its sooo light

  • Anyone who doesn't like this either doesn't have ears, talent or is just jealous. Horowitz plays beautifully. And he puts the newer generation of piano players to shame...even at his age:-)

  • horowitz is to serious to play this with an orange !!

  • <3

  • thanx!

  • did you hear that? a little 10 y/o asian just popped a boner.....

  • not bad for an old man

  • @jhardknox

And old man!!?? He isn't only a old man he is Horowitz :P

  • This was an amazing performance! The ending of this piece was excellent! :D

  • haha what a pimp! Horowitz gettin all the ladies

  • @callofdutyops1 he was homosexual

  • 1:08 what a magic moment!!!!

  • 1:08 what a magic moment!!!

  • what a fortunate wife horowitz had

  • Most recordings and performances of this piece I hear sound so frantic. Without playing it any slower, Mr. Horowitz just has so much control and it shows. He makes even an etude sound so musical and beautiful.

  • What a boss.

  • btw his wife looks at him like a very strict teacher lol

  • very tiny sound...is the room guilty?

  • I love Horowitz, but only when he plays listz.

He misses so many notes lol.

  • he's probably thinking "ummmmm this is so easy for me........"

look at his hands and his expression haha! seems like not a matter to him at all!!!!!!!

  • I'm so proud that an American piano is the standard of quality all over the world. Although maybe his Steinway was from Germany. He is still an amazing musician.

  • @ShinyAndTouchable

uhm... steinway is THE piano used. and indeed not american,

all say that the best piano's are from germany

  • @bolawarrior As far as you know.

  • @ShinyAndTouchable

    Ask any famous pianist...

    they almost all use steinway.

  • @bolawarrior It's OBVIOUSLY a STEINWAY. I realized that when I saw the large STEINWAY LOGO. But you have no idea if it came from America or Germany. I've played many Steinways from both Germany and America and I can't say there is very much that differs. The main differences were in the voicing, some where deeper and dark and others were sweeter and brighter but both varied.

  • @bolawarrior Oh and as far as "Ask any famous pianist..." There are a lot that don't even use Steinway. Liberace used Baldwins, John Schmidt uses FAZIOLI, Countless artists use Yamaha, Young Chang, Kawai, and many others. Not every famous pianist uses Steinway.

  • @ShinyAndTouchable

Oh i'm sorry. every GOOD pianist then..

i mean people like: argerich, horowitz, richter, ashkenazy, gould. pioneers

the REAL pianists. the KINGS for that matter. the ones everyone looks up on the internet because of almost all possible references that will lead to those.

  • @bolawarrior Okay be narrow minded and naive. Not my problem. There are countless GOOD pianists who don't use Steinway. In fact there are too many "GOOD" pianists to count because there are countless ones all over the world. Not all of them are famous though. It's a good piano company, but there are many out there that are just as great as Steinway if not better.

  • @ShinyAndTouchable

just,.... after the insults.... ok i get you don't see other p.o.v.

Imagine me being a random person on the internet, 20 years old, no music career whatsoever. I've seen wikipedia and youtube for all the piano music i like.

THEN you'll get to all those names like i mentioned before. And trust me, those 90pct DO matter.

i don't know if its a grude because steinway took over your piano-selling company? because if not, why the persistent opinion.

  • @bolawarrior I just don't understand why people think nothing is better than Steinway! Don't get me wrong, Steinways are very nice instruments, BUT, there are so many more out there any more that I cannot say Steinway is the best. I go to an all-Steinway university, but that doesn't change my opinion. If I had my choice of any piano, I wouldn't pick a Steinway. They are so passe and manufactured anymore. I might get a vintage Steinway, but I'd look more into Bosendorfers or Faziolis.

  • @ShinyAndTouchable

steinway + passe in 1 scentence... nice. a timeless piano said to be passe

  • 00:30 Look at his head :D

  • @juiceforjoe Why. Just why

  • Some very slight mistakes at 0:45 and 1:24, but a more subtle interpretation. Still very very nice.

  • @AlainHubert your post had a slight mistake starting at the beginning and ending at the last period.

  • @ifelledtreebeard

Just check out Valentina Lisitsa's rendition of this Etude and you'll understand what I meant by "very slight mistakes". She plays this absolutely flawlessly. But with a little less emotion.

  • @AlainHubert I have heard hers, I ll take Horowitzs mistakes =)

  • awesome!

    "truly a legend!"

  • oh...I want Steinway at home too.

  • @verbamusica I want a Horowitz at home!

  • Mistake at 1:24?

  • @mictan2011 And...?

  • @kzelmer That comment was sufficient in itself.

  • i never payed attention to the base of this piece until i saw this video.

  • what is his wife mad at?? =)

and watch this after seeing lang lang's playing

it is kinda funny to see the two extremes one after the other

seriousness and whatever the english word for opposite of that is.

  • WOW perfect octaves!

  • @Zaralyth

    check out Pollini

  • I don't think wanda likes t his

  • Holy hell what an ending.

  • Steinway, although you can hardly tell because of few bass notes. Most of the New York pianists used Steinway and they had very unique bass registers.

Duo Art I believe used Aeolean grands, and they did clean up the performances physically with the paper strips, much like they do with the digital performances nowadays.

  • @Zaralyth well let see how she play this piece at age 84..lisitsa is a robot technically monster but ......u know what i mean

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAdriandipsf it is his wife, Wanda Toscanini

  • @MrAdriandipsf That's Horowitz's wife -_-

  • @MrAdriandipsf that's his wife dumbass

  • @MrAdriandipsf

    his wife.

  • @MrAdriandipsf The "person" is Horowitz' wife.

  • @MrAdriandipsf um shes kinda his wife...and has been for 45 years at that time

  • @MrAdriandipsf art has no gender

  • @Zaralyth He was like 85 here...

Check out him playing this piece when he was younger.

  • My top pianist!

  • @Zaralyth Lisitsa just plays the notes.

Horowitz plays it with a much more brilliant sound...

  • An amazing piece of music played by an amazing pianist!

  • OMG this is soooo cool!! I LOVE Chopin!! I'll never be this good... :(

  • I think this is an outtake from Horowitz: The Last Romantic!

  • Only one thing I have to complain about: He makes it look toooooo easy XD Awesome.

  • dude this guy rocks. so much life in his playing. they don't make em' like they used to.

  • Pkxmjiš

  • The Man from Headquarters.

  • what an artistry !!!

  • what a master !

  • Very interesting! Thanks for posting!
