My aunt worked for a radio station in the sixties and we got a lot of cast of 45's. So I had a promotional copy of this right in with Mary Poppins and Jiminy Cricket when I was five years old, the flipside being "Morning Song" It's nice to hear it again. To me, at least, it's the quintessential Haight Ashbury tune. Were they from SF?
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
From : One Nation Underground - Esperantu records - does anybody remember when Life magazine proclaimed that Eperantu would be the world's mother language by the next century? Ha! English is, was, and will be the world's mother tongue if only because it will never be surpassed in it's ability to absorb and incorporate words, idioms, and expressions from other languages. "I Shall Not Care" Acid-etched, lysergic memories of clarity, peace, and resolve.
@stevensusername Yes, it's the cover for this particular compilation! They actually used a different crop for One Nation Underground and on Balaklava they used the painting of another Dutch artist, Pieter Brueghel the Elder.
Hi Sean, you 've written as one of the labels "balaklava" but this song is on their debut album One Nation Underground, one of my favourite albums ever.
@ManuzziMan All I have by Pearls Before Swine is the Complete ESP-Disk Recordings version that has One Nation Underground and Balaklava together on the same disk. I honestly never looked up the two recordings as separate entities until you mentioned this, so thank you for letting me know.
@ManuzziMan One of my favourite albums ever as well! Some weeks ago I played my old record again for the first time in years, and found I had to play it again and again...
@seanlb1 I LOVE Another Time! I feel the message is deeply mystical and the questions eternal. 'Or have you come by again, to die again? Well, try again, another time.' I think Tom Rapp is brilliant. This song was on my list of twenty most listened to songs of 2011 (I did this little music write up, just for myself). Peace
he clearly has a lisp, although im not sure how much it affects his performances- which are not that great regardless, and the music is not mind blowing- from an era filled with mind-blowing acts
My comment about his lisp was meant to be rhetorical. I wanted to convey my feeling that, as you say, it doesn't affect the performance. However, as I consider it further, I think the lisp tended to enhance the already strange character of P.B.S.'s music. As for mind-blowing, one mind's blow is another's suck. Stay high.
@23moksha Richie Havens had a similar lisp, but now i think of it that was because he had some of his teeth missing, your right though i think it gives him a very individual sound
Huge influence on me in high school, all the ESP Disk bands like Octopus, CroMagnon, Sun Ra, MIJ, Godz, Randy Burns, and Ed Askew. Dreamy folkedelic strangeness. "Sail Away" captivated me and was a theme song for much of a year.
Heard this band and song for the first time. And I allready know, that this going to be a favorit of mine, for eternity...

Why does everyone think they need drugs to listen to music! The music is a drug all by itself!

Rapp said he had never used drugs before or during the recording of his first 3 albums

@ELItheJEW420 Another Time is actually my favorite song. It's slow, but the lyrics and message are simply amazing.

I read that Tom Rapp, the founder of PBS used to beat Bobbie Zimmerman in songwriting contests around Minnesota, back in the day...

he has a missing tooth. At least that's was what I was told by a 62 year old man who use to be a disc jockey for a radio station back in the days.

A Classic song - Pearls before Swines never got the Credits they would have been deserved at the time. The Use of Ashes is another great Album.
