quotation: "[...] Gurrumul Yunupingu, [...] has emerged as the most revered and distinctive voice in modern Aboriginal music." i think that he has got the most revered and distinctive voice on the current music market.
HE IS GREAT....one of his songs Wukun uses images of clouds forming and seperating to represent his people moving across the land and settling in different places. He is from theYolngu clan. His album is platignum in Australia i believe.
Guy called Hohnen helped him develop a gospel acoustic folk sound that suited his dreamy lyrics.
Just a quick point - this wasn't recorded at Womadelaide 2009 because I was there yesterday when Yunupingu played and his slot was in the afternoon in the full sun - nevertheless, it was an awesome performance, hauntingly beautiful and peaceful.
There is so many it is hard to advise, depends on what type you like. Gurrumul is basically ballards but the Fitzroy Xpress is really good and the Warrumpi Band as well..have seen so many bands cause I live in the NT and not far from their communities.Just check out YouTube for a listing.
