Su had some of the best annoucers during the 80s and early 90's but why do they have so much trouble with the mics being cut off...? hating on them back then too huh?...LOL

Both bands did great shows....Precision has to go to SU / while entertainment has to go to the 101...Overall show has to go to the 101....Not only did they do a drill but they had dance girls/concert selection/ and a jamming dance routine where they didn't put the horns on the ground....I think if SU could have put a nicve concert selection in than it would have been a tie...This was a close one..

I'm from VA and up until 1993, I was only exposed to the CIAA and MEAC. I didn't learn what a real band was until seeing the SWAC bands live and in person. Although, JSU is my favorite, I have to say SU got this one hands down b/c of the crispness with their drills, precission, technique and level of difficulty.Sorry SCSU fans!!!!!!!!

@Punkie757 See it was the opposite for me lol I grew up in Texas so all I knew was SWAC band that always played with power, then I moved to the 757 of VA and was exposed to FAMU, Hampton, Norfolk, SCSU, Howard A&T and Bethune and fell in love with the MEAC style bands. Towards the end of the 90's I thought the SWAC focused more on stands than field shows. This is the SU I use to LOVE whent hey would steal the crowd. I also loved Gram, JSU and PVA&M too. My heart is still wtih the MEAC though :)

I think we did precision circles, we did precision floating crosses, floating diamonds,we wrote coke on the field (gotta do that when you in Atlanta) dang-we did it all...oh, WE PUT THE SCORE UP WITHOUT THE SCORE BEING KNOWN!,we just did a show that is unmatched in power, skill set and plain power.But you know what, noonie1972? you probably paid alot of money to go and see SCSU get spit on like that, so I understand the how you feel. I was on the field this day and i give credit where credi is due. scsu sounded and looked like a high school band. there were two bands that brought it to us in 91 and that was jackson st. and alcorn st.

The performance by southern was a hot mess. Southern has alot of fans in the Atlanta area but I'm sorry you couldn't touch the 101 that day. Keep dreaming....you are in denial but thats okay. Southern will say anything to defend themselves even when they get roasted. That day you were made into the 101's step child.

S.U.1991.! No match, S.U. is far superior and the look on the band members faces after the show proved it. I was playing Tuba for S.U. trust me, their faces were on the floor.

Southern clearly wore scsu out...look at the precision..... scsu lines were not straight the dance routine fell apart and was not alike at all, the sound was good for both bands, but su kept in tact with the formations and it had more difficulty. SCSU did a lot of dancing which is not bad because i love show band style but they lack showmanship and it was not all together look at the clips closely folks. The half time score was really cool

You may be right, but I've never seen any of the top SWAC bands out drilled by bands outside the conference (stick figures and all that other crap is so lame). Besides, why high step with that "other" kind of drilling? Just do it corps style, at least you'd have the advantage of all the sound constantly facing the crowd, lol.

Ok I had to look at both Field shows, you know to remain objective to the previous comments that the 101 did better.....SORRY! This was the 91 version of this band, we outhoused, out marched, and outpowered SCSU. Now I will say that the dance routine got more praise, but as was mentioned before, the crowd was silent most of the field show. Overall, I dont think or see how the 101 was better.

To MCRocketpwr: There is a big difference between an entrance and the actual show. Southern entered the stadium nicely that was it. Their show, on the other hand, wasn't worth a hill of beans compared the Marching 101's performance. I don't know what you watched, but your eyes played some horrible tricks on you. lol. As I repeat the famous words again of the announcer back then, "Remember Southern University, if you can't run with the big dawgs, then stay under the porch."

Southern was not as good as SC State here. I watched both performances and I thought, after State's show, they did a masterful job, but let's see what Southern is going to do. After watching Southern, I thought SC State won that battle hands down. So as the announcer said back then, "Southern if you can't run with the big dawgs, then stay under the porch." And after the performance SC State displayed, that's exactly where Southern ended up, back under the porch. Go Marching 101.
