  • Women can be such bitches!!

  • 2:26...funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thelma is a witch and Eunice is a b-witch. Taking the food away was just mean.

  • Ed and Mickey obviously have some type of "BROMANCE" going on.... and Eunice's hysterics don't make things any easier.... I think ED would rather be married to Mickey..... Always talking about "MACHOISM" and "MANLINESS".. is a clear sign of Homo.....Eunice was totally right in this episode.....

  • Eunice was a little cold-hearted at the end of this skit when she packs up the food on the table and takes it home.

  • I wonder what the equivalence of $5 a week would be in 2011.......anyone?

  • @MPL029 5 dollars a week in 2011 would be 3 items at the the Dollarama, a fork, knife and spoon all plastic and made in China or 2 cans of soup there, it won't take you far in this greedy world.

  • @cindyns1 My question wasnt what would it buy..my question was what is the monetary equivolence...$100? $200?

  • @MPL029 this was i believe 1972 got this from my homework from school i know you would think i am crazy but i just had to research it it is called Seven Ways to Compute the Relative Value of a U.S. Dollar Amount - 1774 to Present and the answer is a 5 dollar rise would be

    24.00

  • @cindyns1 Thanks Cindy!!! even $24/week doesnt seem like much haha. I knew there was a site that could translate money into current prices (did that make sense). Glad to knwo what it is..thanks!!

  • poor mickey, he was always such a sweet heart to those harpy-women =)

  • She was a genius in making people laugh, I stated a long time ago on another thread that she could walk that tight rope between the funny and the sad. Comics just makes reality easier to swallow, they are just as needed as Pastors, Priests or Counselors. She really was gifted, I'm sure the hard way she grew up she had to see some humor in it in order to survive it. She passed on that blessing and God given talent for laughter to the rest of us. How wonderful is that?

  • but as long as you feel sorry for Ed, you have to know he's no prize by any rate!

  • Good for Ed!!!

  • Mickey had been working for Ed for five years and it was probably his first raise in all that time. I doubt that Eunice's food budget is that tight. Ed wouldn't eat "sawdust" and bread filled meatballs. Eunice is just being a selfish witch as usual. She treats Ed like dirt, then gets jealous when he finds a friend. And Thelma? Another hateful witch. The fruit didn't fall very far from the tree there.

  • You sawed off little weirdo!!! :D

  • That Eunice sure is sexy. LOL

  • @ridgerunner721601 God your weird! But to each his own!

  • @pjgumby I was just joking about Eunice being sexy....LOL. But I sure do love those old Mama's Family skits from The Carol Burnett Show. In fact I used to watch her show every Saturday night when I was a kid.

  • @ridgerunner721601 I know you had to be joking, I was joking too. Peace.

  • @pjgumby Oh, I know. Peace back at ya PJ. But seriously, I had read somewhere that Carol Burnett grew up in a really dysfunctional home. Both parents were alcoholics and she was raised for the most part by her grandmother. And she got a lot of the ideas for the Mama's Family skits from her own upbringing. Can you imagine parents like Ed and Eunice? LOL But Carol certainly was a comedic genius able to make a tough childhood look funny in some of her skits.

  • good esp.lol

  • If I was Ed I'd rather be with Mickey as well, instead of with that shrew Eunice.

  • Mickey isn't so bad.

  • "Why don't you ever serve dinners like this Eunice?" lol

  • Mickey is so oblivious to the drama. Even when they insult him. He just eats that good Chinese food. He's so normal and sane.

  • @katkountry10

He's hard of hearing. He just turns his hearing aid off. That's part of the schtick. They insult him when he's right there but he doesn't actually hear them.

  • @katkountry10 Well, I don't know about Mickey being 'normal and sane'. I think it just looks that way because Mama, Eunice and Ed are outright bonkers....LOL.

  • And so we learn the valuable lesson that comedy and tragedy are

    often intertwined.

  • It's amazing they memorised all these lengthy dialogues (especially Carol) and delivered so well

  • Love where Eunice comes back and takes all the chinese food!LOL

  • LOL. Mama always wears that same dress!Poor Micky Hart!Is it possible Ed&Micky have something going on?HELLOOOOOO MOTHER HARPER!!!

  • wait up mama DAmn it HAHA

oh god I miss this type of comedy

  • DRIVE CAREFULLY HAHA

  • would you simmer down your giving me ingestion

  • If i were ed id stayed too & not gone back

  • I hope someone posts the Family skit w/ Joanne Woodward as Eunice's bad girl friend from high school.

  • Y'all can finish this Chinese mish-mash without me.

    LOL!!!!!!

  • @mr39jeffy

Mama doesnt know good Chinese food! LOL

  • It's funny on Mama's Family Mama liked Chinese food.

  • yeah she doesnt know chinese food but Mickey does!

  • I don't think Mickey's an idiot, he might be uneducated but probably has commun sense.

  • Huh? I dont think I said Mickey was. He knows more about Chinese Food then Mama family! My grandfather on my mothers side throw away dumplings becuase they thought they were rat meat! they were stupid!

thank god they accepted my dad who is chinese

    Oh Mickey a nice guy

  • M: Why don't I just call you Thelma. You can call me anything you want.

T: Well you can count on that.

    LMAO

  • Sawed off little weirdo...

    LOL

  • ABSOLUTELY HYSTERICAL! loveit!

  • If Eunice was getting married, she would make one perfectly dreadful Bridezilla!

  • SAWED OFF LITTLE WEIRED"O" LOL This is one I love as it features MAMA MORE--LOL

  • Well, I told you you was gonna come to grief if you married him but you never HAVE listened to me!!!

What choice did I have? Living with you was a living hell!!!

Too funny and too tragic at the same time.

    What writing! What delivery!

  • Eunice for vice - president!!!!

  • Mama for president!!!!!!

  • Mickey a simple soul?? He's a Stooge like a hundred thousand other guys and girls who are the butt of other peoples jokes all the time ,and don't even know it half the time. Hell if Mickey kept yellin at me I'ed go upside his head with a brick.....But Tim Conway does a wonderful job of reminding us Stooges are human too....(like we all aren't stooges at one time or anougher)

  • I do prefer the comic endings to the bittersweet ones. However, most of these comments are tired...attempting to psychoanalye a comedy sketch? Get a clue, people.

Thanks, Tabstarkin, for posting all these....some of the best TV acting in all of '70s TV.

  • What scares me the most is that i think Carol Burnett stole this whole scene from one of our family movies. The only difference is that Mama Harper is my Grandmother, i swear they are cloned.

I love our family get together's.

  • I can understand Ed's fondness for Mickey. He's a simple soul and he idolizes Ed. Ed no doubt needs someone to shore up his ego, what with having to live the endlessly carping and criticizing Mama and Eunice. But Eunice is right; giving Mickey a raise when his family has so little? That's just wrong. But then ALL of these people are screw-ups big time.

  • Yeah they are

  • Mama's face at 4:01.

    LOL

  • "Wait up, Mama, DAMMIT!!!!"

  • That was funny the way she says that, I never knew she said "damnit!" though My copy was from the Family channel all the swear words are edited out.

  • my favorite part---definitely!

  • This is tragicomedy at it's best

  • Poor Mickey, Mama called him a sawed-off little weirdo and Eunice called him a stooge!

  • It's a good thing Micky was oblivious to how they were treating him. Even after they were told that he insisted they be there, cause he like them, Thelma and Eunice still treated him like crap.

He should have gotten up and told Eunice off, and Thelma too actually. It was rude of them to act like that. But, that's just Thelma and Eunice.

Good episode and thanks for posting this and all the others too.

  • I can't beleive Harvey is gone...RIP God Bless You Harvey!

  • I'm so glad Mickey didn't take much notice of how much he was actually being abused!

  • I'm with you, Skymouth! Mickey is oblivious and I'm happy because he's a sweet guy.

  • Sometimes I wish he'd stand up for himself.

  • OMG, Mickey's so adorable. And oblivious. :P

  • Ha ha poor Mickey! It's hilarious when Eunice comes back in and boxes up the food!

  • mickey is oblivious to everything except the food. it's so cute how just keeps right on eating!

  • Mickey is partially deaf, that may be the reason.

  • "Wanna try the peapods, Thelma?"

  • But 5 bucks IS a HUGE RAISE! Especially for that time!

  • I don't know why but for some reason I was always kinda expecting Mickey to fly into a rage and tell Eunice off, but her NEVER did.

  • Had almost forgotten this one- excellent! It appears Mickey serves as the one person in whom Ed can find temporary refuge from his plight in life. Hmm I wonder (Eunice's insinuations aside) if the writers entertained some sort of suppressed homosexual subtext at play here, or is it just my imaginings?

  • Well, they sure had no qualms about revealing racism!

  • No it isn't your imaginings. (About Ed and Mickey) in a manner of speaking, YES!

Many men are looking for that buddy bond--especially when having to live with a shrew of a wife and mother-in-law to boot.

Eunice's constant harangues and Mama's jibes make life Hell for Ed. He finds his Paradise oasis with Mickey. Mickey isn't married (nor ever has been) He has no lady friend. He has no children. Ed can be free during the moments he spends with Mickey who is a brother of the heart to Ed.

  • Ed is hardly a prize as a husband

  • and Eunice is? come on

  • As Mother Harper told Bubba's teacher

    "I don't live with them"

  • well I am sure! Eunice isnt that good of a wife

  • I wonder if Mickey's character was the inspiration for Vinton on Mama's Family?

  • I felt sorry for poor Mickey. I hardly even laughed at this episode because of those two witches ungracious behavior.

  • Yeah I posted on another board, I find it strange that Eunice would be so hateful to Mickey, I can see Mama treating him that way but it seems that Eunice would have had more sympathy for him.

  • Allright! Eunice going totally ape shit! It doesnt get any better than this!

  • So much for the blessing Mickey gave. How could anyone Mama's age only have tried chinese food once in her life. Poor dumb ole Mickey, he does't realize when he has been

dumped on by these two shrews. I would of thrown the box of dumplings right at Eunice, before letting her leave with the food. Love these skits.

  • I'm glad Ed finally stood up to Eunice. lol

  • :) i second that...she deserved it this time for sure

  • This really is one of the more intense Family skits...but it's got it all. The end is truly bittersweet, like Niklotay said.

  • I love these "Family" sketches... there's always a little bittersweet touch at the end of each skit they do.
