Is this really your favorite book? Not hating, but I've read quite a few of King's novels and this was one of my least favorites. But I still admire your editing expertise! I really tried to like this book. I tried to force it, but to no avail!
I have my own ideas of what a movie of this book must be. So I saw 30 days of night i would mix the 79's miniseries, this 2004 movie and some ideas of "30 days" like the omnipresence of the vampires at "30 days". One good scene it would be many vampires on the air arriving to the windows like the book describes. "They didn't look at the windows, overall the didn't look the windows"... so the 2 movies becomes from the great books I like both....
Absoloute crap this version was. There is only one Mr Barlow and that is the one played by the late great Reggie Nalder .The Master.Look at mechandise you can get for this film, all most all feature Mr Barlow from 79 version
Mr. Barlow from the '79 version? Absolute bull. Have you read the book? He's not supposed to be a blue Nosferatu wannabe. He's supposed to look like a man, like all the other vampires.
I've never seen the second version, but all I know is that the first was horrible.
IMAxx, I have to disagree with you. I agree that the 2004 version was more inline with the book, but the first one was much better, and scarier. With regards to Barlow, the point of the director in the original was to make him more like a beast than a human, and it worked. Sorry, but as much as I like Rutger Hauer, he didn't scare me. That's what I think the director in the original was trying to accomplish more than anything. I've read the book and it's awesome. But this version sucked.
Though the remake is closer to the book, the original in 1979 was better by far. The remake is far less scary and I find it funny that in the remake, some Vampire's have glowing eyes while others do not.
The newer version was more like the book. Who didn't think of Rutger Hauer as Barlow when reading the book, years before this version was made? Just the same, the '79 version will always be the scarier version for me, probably because I saw it when I was very young. Floating kid, undead handyman in a rockingchair & Barlow was just demonic. I did really enjoy Donald Sutherland as Straker, completely wild, insane yet cunning at the same time.
No, I didn't. He was suppose to be white and an old man. But, just because they changed the race to one person doesn't mean anything if you ask me. This movie just stuck to the storyline better, plus you got to see Mark more in it! Even though they messed up his age too.
this video was cool but can you make one to kings of leon "Closer" I think that song works better with the movie, I tell you what I'll subscribe to you to see if you can I think it would be awsome.
thanks for posting this...i love this movie so much...i love the novel more though:) anway do you think you could post the entire movie...please...that would be fantastic......
In the 2004 movie you don't know whether or not he dies...They're trying to bring him back to life during the end credits and you don't know what happens. Also why did you bother saying that? I mean I know some people haven't read the books, but why do you have to randomly say that?
This version was definitely much better but I didn't like the fact that Ben kills Father Callahan. I agree that we do not know the fate of Ben at the end of the book, but if you read the Dark Tower series you find out what happens to Father Callahan and 'Salems Lot was just the beginning.
Ah yes the song playing during the commercial of Gears of War. The song was out a bit longer than the game I believe though, but anyways I love this song. :D
The song was out in the 70's, I think that's just a lil longer then Gears Of War. Tears for Fears did the original and Gary Jules made it cool. Cheers.
good job on this and good choice of song. i really liked this book of stephen king the most. and the 70s tv series is the scariest i've ever seen about vampires.
salem's lot is one of stephen king's best novels. defintely in my top 5! just another one of his books i can't read at night. haha!and i agree, this version of the film is so much better.
I plan on seeing this film. I hear the head vampire talks in this, unlike the 1979 version where he makes annoying animal sounds. This version looks like its closer to the book in that respect. in the book, Barlow is really manipulative, playing on peoples hopes and aspirations. For example, how he takes Dud Rogers.
For example, the scene when Mike pays a visit to Matt in the first one is only kind of scary but in this version it broke my heart. How lost Mike looked and how he reacted seeing his reflection in the mirror. In the 70s version the vampires were just evil heartless guys, here they appear corrupted but so lost and longing (for the humanity taken from them, maybe) at the same time...
It's not that they hate it, I think they're just in love with older movies that they can't see the light to the real plot line Stephen King had for 'Salem's Lot.
Its that we saw the 1979 movie as kids (I was 8 when it aired originally) its part of our childhood.
Iv read everything king ever wrote. Love the book, love the movie (79) never seen this one. It risks fucking with my childhood, much like the new star wars movies ruined fond memories for me from my pre teen years of the first star wars films. We know the faults of the 79 movie, we just do not care. most of us aw the movie before we ever read the book.
Um, nothing you said proved I'm wrong. All you stated was that you didn't want the new movie to ruin your childhood view on the old one. Considering neither one of us can technically be wrong on which one is better since opinions are never wrong, but I never said I didn't like the old version. I enjoyed it. I just think the new one follows the story line to the novel more that's all.
Haha, well I hope that you feel better. I do agree that the original was scarier though. You're right about that. I'm just a novel buff and like things to be close to the novels. : D
God, I still love this vid here. It displays the tragic feel of the film which I don't think the detractors really wanted to pick up on. And look Rob Lowe gives at 1:01 reminds me of myself with the bad events that I went through mid summer.
