  • The naysayers and downers on here clearly have never picked up an instrument. This is great!

  • I then vomitted when I heard this so called attempt of Jimi's good music. Dont quit ya day jobs, horrible possesed quartet. Very lame, but thats typical of white people and Europeans who ruin everything they come in contact with.

  • I then vomitted when I heard this so called attempt of Jimi's good music. Dont quit ya day jobs, horrible possesed quartet.

  • @wattanparrast "Dont quit ya day jobs"

They are actually very successful. That's really all I have to say, it speaks for itself.

  • more intresting than any Hendrix performance

  • anyone any ideas about an album for this?

  • this gave me chilllllllllls, fucking amazing. all their parts are so fucking sick in their own way, and they all shred. the cello makes it sound so heavy 2:30 on

  • does anyone know if I can find this on an album ???

  • FEEDBACK!!!! HELL YEAH! What would classical be, without feedback?

  • very few have dared remake any of hendrix's songs (i know of three.) but this fourth, this KRONOS QUARTET, blew me away! yeah, im sold.

  • they need amplification.

  • Lol pretty groovy ;)

  • This needs a deep bass singing "I'm gonna take you home, gonna do you no harm nooo"

  • stupendoooooo

  • good!

  • I was very skeptical of this at the beginning, but no they actually nail it, you got to feel there potion. These are the people whose parents forced them to take classical lessoned and prohibited them from listening to rock and roll; of course they fought the man.

  • @sonicflam Are you serious? They aren't rebelling against being forced into a classical career. They chose a medium which they loved and are trying to bring more young people in by making awesome arrangements. I love rock music and classical music, and this is a great blend of the two.

  • @nixrox13

na man your not fealing what i mean. but i doubt this will bring more young people, i dont know the teen that likes classical and older rock.

  • @sonicflam I did, in fact I was the complete opposite. My family listened to rock and I liked classical.

  • @sonicflam I am 18 an a huge fan of both, and I know plenty of others my age and younger who are also.

  • @sonicflam Yeah I'm actually 16 too, but I know what you mean. Most my friends like Kate Perry or Lady Gaga

  • @nixrox13 If my son ends up having music taste as awesome as you I'll be well happy.

  • The way the cello churns out the base line is amazing, a much underused instrument in modern music.

  • Hendrix had a way that related more to raw, unadulterated, in your facedness that conventional instruments don't seem to aspire to... Although Beethoven did some pretty amazing things. Regardless of that, I commend your appreciation and respect of the great & varying minds of music and love your passion & will take inspiration from that, so thanks.

    Ever heard of Atomic Tom?

    Jay

  • jimi did it better

  • @spongechuck14 There's that 'better' word again. What a waste of bandwidth.

  • you can tell they actually love jimi hendrix. love it!

  • lol i dunno if i should like it or be weirded out with their passionate playing style....but all in all its all good!

  • no manches kronos cuartet esta de pocamadre !!!!!

  • This barely sounds like Foxy Lady to me. :\ I'm disappointed.

  • love 'em.

  • The body movement of the Kronos Quartet are so rapid. The Bass player looks like a robot at times.

  • interesting with the vuvzela button on. :}

i ave an undying love for the kronos quartet, it's completely out of this world.

  • ni siquiera 4 weyes estudiados pueden hacer lo que jimi hacía solo

  • Hendrix would've loved this!! :D

  • this sing is hoooot! you could be fooled thinkin yhey are using more than violins !!

  • interesting.....

  • omg n 3lols

  • shows what you know

  • Like the way how their heads bob up and down.

  • true story

  • Was this ever recorded in a proper studio or did just preform it live? I would eat my right hand for a good sounding digital copy, and both of them for a physical (and to underline this notion I should also say that I am a vegetarian).

Please, anyone, point me in the right direction. Thanks.

  • the guy at 1:08 reminds me of the the guy from the end of the nerds movie, you know, the part with the spectacular musical performanceLOL

  • @beyondhumanidea

    ha you mean poindexter

  • I was a bit apprehensive at first...but these guys are talented musicians and they DID pull it off! Well done guys... :-)

  • this is the amazing version of Foxy Lady by Steve Mackey (1956*)

  • I think Jimi would've loved this!

  • @neptunevenus Yeah I think Jimi would have loved it.

  • they really had fun doing this! That's extraordinary!

  • There is sssso much potential for disaster in this idea, but they actually pull it off with class.

Which is ironic when you consider how many crap versions of this song have been done by technically-proficient guitarists.

    These people are musicians.

  • Get a haircut, Ted Danson.

  • An incredible musical interpretation!!

It doesn't get much better than this!!

  • this is fucking sick!

  • This Is Great! For those who are interested in today's creations check out the following quartet - Type this after Youtube - /watch?v=7Sok5-enXQU

  • Oooh dark and lovely!! I love what they've done!

  • this is brilliant

  • Sounds v cool....rly is dissonant but it works...as long as ure not expecting an exact cover

  • This is beautifully ugly. Brilliant! it's trash yet carefully composed.

  • and your comment is why I say that you do not really know what good music means :))))))

  • any one know where these fold are from?

  • if you mean wr this quartet are from they're from the UK.

  • kidding? they are from San Francisco, California!

  • nop, they are from San Francisco, California

  • yup.. scuse me while if fix this, guy... ;)

they're definitely from San Francisco CA..

    always thought they were british... well clearly i had too much of something back when Hendrix was big! ;

  • Doesn't like it at all. It is pretty much all dissonance throughout.

  • big LOL

  • this is a fuking trippppppp.....wish i was there

  • OMG! :O so cool. i really liked!

  • a was at their concert two or three years ago in Poland in Warsaw-they played "Foxy lady" that time...I was standing 15 m to scene, but my ears...omg...

  • yep and this here is a reason why you should see more

  • um...they're quite good, i think I acctually like them XD

  • What does it have to do with being white? Racism will never die . . .

  • Dude, you really are a douche bag.

  • the rythym violinist acts like mitch

  • Awesome, their requiem for a dream stuff is awesome too.

  • omg i want a recording of this!!!!

  • They said some of Hendrix notes couldn't be transcribed, they still do a great job of his song.

  • When is this show going to on dvd, my recordings on vhs are wearing out, this is great

  • Four dudes with strings all having simultaneous nervous breakdowns - awesome don't even begin to cover it.

  • Actually, 3 guys and a chick.

  • Why all that jerky movement??? Feels like some Stephen King shit....

    BTW....it's a great performance...something different!

  • the reason y they were doing all those movements is that once u get good at an instrument u feel more free and mov around a lot mor which is the same as singers in rock groups

  • I really enjoy this! =D

..and im glad im not the only one

  • Sounds like theme music to a scene of a guy having a stroke and his brain is coming apart.

  • :O OMG!!!

  • k...a super

  • Freaky, I can dig it.

  • em... sencillamente me partió la cabeza! XD

  • Uma exibição belíssima e inexplicavelmente criativa do qurteto.

  • Great rearrangement!

  • son los padres de apocalyptica XD

  • lol i am going to go watch teh real version cya!

  • I am so happy music like this exists.

  • Ditto!!

  • hendrix es un dios y el kronos quartet lo esta invocando, increible

  • the kronos quartet is one of the greatest and most expirimental group of out time

  • The cellist is a babe! I LOVE the 80s hairdo...

  • it sounds a little bit too experimental too me. :S

  • Jimi would have dug it.

  • for the haters:

"When I die, I want people to play my music, go wild and freak out and do anything they want to do." -Jimi Hendrix

  • i play violin n dis is sikkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk like wooooow i wish i knew these guys

  • them guys are crazy! in a good way :D

  • I have to admit, it's a little... jarring. And undeniably zany, both visually and audibly. But I think it's awesome!

  • when was this?

  • >> when was this?

    1990.

  • Back in the late 80's Lorne Michaels, producer of SNL created a TV devoted entirely to music. It aired on Sunday night and was called Sunday Nights. The house band was incredible...consisted of Hiram Bullock (formerly of Letterman's Late Night Band) on guitar, Marcus Miller on bass, Omar Hakim on drums and David Sanborn on alto. The show featured all sorts of avant garde musical talents and the Kronos Quartet was one of them. This is from the late 80's because Jean the cellist left in 1990.

  • @wlkdwlk I really enjoyed this show. And you're right, it was originally called "Sunday Night". I remember it as "Night Music."

  • @jogacoeur Lorne Michaels (SNL producer) produced this show in the late 80's..it aired on Sunday night & was called Sunday Night. It featured all sorts of avant garde musical acts and The Kronos Quartet was one of them.

  • lol its funny to see the comments that say this sounds like shit...because they obviously dont understand the music but if you listen closly to every note of every instrument you will relize that the notes blend together well, and with the dynamics and rhythm its truly amazing.listen to understand the music.Dumbass

  • Yeah, that's it. When I was a child first time I listened to contemporary music I was thinkig somebody was cheating me... but the more you know about music, the better you catch what it says...

  • Fuckin' awesome.

  • Love it!

  • Wow this gives me a headache.

  • oh... oh... ahh. oh yes... oh yea... mooo. .... ahh . AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

    aaaaaaaa.

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • is this from the late eighties show, believe it was called night music, have some old vhs tape (how ancient) recorded from local tv, is this show available on dvd? if so please let me know they had some great people on there

  • Yes, this is from Night Music. It's never been released on DVD. Check out my channel, I've posted many clips from this great show.

  • I trought thats impossible

  • fuck

  • Nice version of Hendrix! YouTube also has a great video of the band, The Ordinaires, doing an amazing version of the Led Zeppelin song, Kashmir. They mix violin, sax, and rock guitar on the YouTube vid titled: The Ordinaires - "Kashmir".

  • freakin bad ass! love it!

  • this sounds dope

  • wow!

  • I have never seen anything like it in my life! That's a very admirable interpretation!

  • i was especting a big ghost of hendrix too pop up in the middle lol

  • hahaha! soo true...would be a perfect finish to a fab interpretation

  • Sounds so modern and eerie I love it. It is expressed in it's own uniqueness.

  • its so odd to hear popular music in a classical form...well done

  • apocalyptica wants a duel

  • well... I think kronos quartet can easily kick their asses, have you seen their repertoire?? :S

  • that was funny

  • I love this!! sounds good.

  • impressive!

  • Haha, cool. Love their use of vibrato. Very creepy version at some parts. Love it though. Love those bass strings.

  • Well,it is brilliant !

Imagine, just add good drums and funky bass to it, and it would be smashing.

    Ehm loves it too.

  • this IS what a tribute to jimi should sound like. not all those other insomniac bumbling.

i've never heard them before. they must know their instruments to interprete jimi so well. i would love to hear them do more orchestral jimi such as "may this be love", rainy day dream away",..

which jimi more or less orchestrated in his own mind.

  • ATENTION!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT

hey you people listen to the part starting at 1:20, it is the solo..jimi hendrix was a fucking genious true beauty of music that even beat the beauty of woman..

  • great

  • astounded, the sheer dexterity required for such a performance is by strict definition just amazing

recommended by carlos d of interpol, he was right

  • haha that's the reason why i also went to look up Kronos Quartet. haha

  • really great

  • definitivamente me dejaron sin palabras!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • This is at least 15 years old. It looks to be a clip from the old Night Music show, which David Sanborn (that's him doing the introduction) hosted back in the early 90's.

This actually sounds much better than their version of Purple Haze, which was a little too

"contemporary classical" sounding for my tastes.

  • Yes, it's from 'Night Music.' If you go to my channel you can find many performances from that great show which ran from fall 1988 to spring 1990.

  • WIN.

  • ERR.. this is not cool.. err .. weird?

  • this is contemporary music...

  • ur stupid these people must be classically trained n they must understand the value of hendrix..god bless them they valued his music

  • simply amazing :D

  • this is so good, hendrix would love this

  • Different Trains, New York Couterpoint and now this: YES!!!

  • I love the Kronos Quartet, especially love their work in Requiem For A Dream:Lux Aetherna and Summer Overture all the way!!!(you know what I'm talking about)

  • I think it's overcomplicated

  • HEAVYYYYYYYY!! Hendrix would of loved this!!

  • WTFF!!!!!!!!! LOLLLLLLLLLL

  • Triple Cero's foxy lady

  • Awesome with a capital A. Bowing with the grandest of strokes.

  • Love that heavy cello!

  • Awesome, their requiem for a dream stuff is awesome too.
