Tommy is a classic example that technique isn't the most important thing in the world.

everyone is always saying he would be a great musician if he didn't wrap his thumb around so much. I just want to say WHO CARES! If the music sounds good that's all that matters.

It finally dawned on me what the magic of TE is and the main reason he's so popular. It's because his playing style and writing style lends itself to many guitarists "believing" or "feeling" that they can learn his songs. He brings simplicity to sophistication. The songs sound simple, and you can even whistle or hum them, but they technically amazing. His phrasing and feel are truly addictive, which is another reason for so many TE followers.

He's the best because he's not relatively popular? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but, I don't really think that makes sense. Yeah, like Childan said, I hate rappers and pop singers, too, but I mean, look at classical music. Everyone knows who Bach and Beethoven are, and everyone knows the melody of Canon in D by the brilliant Johann Pachelbel (partially thanks to every single guitar player on YouTube), but, if you're saying that popular means bad, I'd rethink.

Thanks for the info, I have managed to learn most of this song ,just need to nail the intro a little better and it is indeed in standard tuning with a capo. I believe on angelina and the Hunt he may have dropped the tuning on some strings

Yes. If you ever go to Fort Clatsop (Astoria Oregon), they have a family tree for William Clark. He has living descendants, but none of them have "Clark" as a last name.

Absolutly awsome, Saw Tommy play this live at his 2006 festival in north east england. Beautiful peice of music along with so many other of his songs, definatly buying his new album "the mystery" that has this song on.
