No it isn't. And I'm not just saying that, I drive a manual but I still don't think it's the basic of driving. That would be turning on the car or something.
you can ask all the pros ... stick shift is the basic driving technique... nowadays ppl r getting lazy of the synchronization of the clutch and gas maneuver so they rely on AT...especially NA countries... most of the Asian countries still have road test on MT vehicle... as it can test the candidate's ability of controlling the car...
Automatics have been around for nearly as long as manuals, they are NOT new by any means. Yes, people ARE lazy, and are getting LAZIER, that -once again- is nothing new. Oh, and everyone knows that all of asia (other than japan) has some of the worst drivers in the world (as a whole, not individually). Pro says driving a standard is basic, if that's basic, then what is automatic? Oh, and I'm not trying to argue, just trying to prove a point.
@fenix144 Manual came first. I can't find any information of an automatic or precursor to automatic coming before manual. The manual came before, the first thing that auto can trace its roots back to is about 1904, but it was nothing like the automatics you're thinking of.
