WHen doing reconstruction work on a blade, doesnt the use of black take actually change the angle of the edge? How does this affect the blade life and shave quality ?
You should make another video on honing methods. These vids were great if you want to know about straight razor and stone dynamics but very little info on the actual honing other than you can lay it flat and push back and forth. Next video try to focus on all the different honing methods like dilucot, unicot, pressure, and torque. Good vid otherwise tho. :)
I picked up my first razor about a week ago and I got it pretty sharp but to make it pass the hanging hair test takes a lot of creativity...
I already had a set of Japanese water stones 800, 1200 and 6000, so instead of buying the 4k/8k stone I figured I would buy a 10k stone. Would you do anything differently with this stone combo?
Fantastic series of videos, this helped very much.
One question though regarding blade reconstruction. If you tape the spine so that medal is only removed on the front of the blade, won't that change the angle at which the blade is then sharpened? Going forward even if no tape is used the blade will still be more aggressive.
Not sure if this would make a difference, but just wanted to get people's thoughts and see if they noticed a difference.
Great video for learning how to sharpen a razor. I'm not sure that diamond sharpeners are actually worth buying. I have owned a couple in the past, and from experience water stones are far more effective even at a higher grit.
@UberShtrudel hey uber i know you posted this comment 2 yrs ago but i was just wondering what this straight razor honing guy is doing wrong? if you dont mind that is.
one thing about the diamond honing is to use a figure 8. this means that u wont be eating one side of the blade quicker than the other- old carpenters trick.
Thanks for all the work! A couple of other useful topics, if you have time and interest: "truing" the hone's surface, and using a 60X or 100X microscope to check the condition of the edge.

Or you could have simply shown how to drag the blade across within 2 minutes or so without all the wordy bullshit. EDIT EDIT EDIT this down

He mentions the solution for this. Untape the blade and set the bevel. Around 12:30 I think
