  • Awesome. Still sounds good to me.

  • C L A S S I C

  • love the song and the lyrics like to sing it whever i'm feeling down:)

  • You jerks out there, he wrote this during his dad's rehab from Brain damage after a ruptured ulcer in his stomach that was attached to an artery. It shows a lot of heart.

  • Love this Feel good song

  • i loved rick from his first song till now.

  • Awesome

  • Coulda been a country singer...

  • Who remembers Rick Springfield (briefly) as Zak, Apollo's younger brother who was killed by the Cylons in the first episode of the original Battlestar Galactica?

  • O.M.G. I had no idea he started this early. Wow cool. So 60's sounding.

  • wow great vid, thanks for sharing.

  • OMG. I forgot how absolutey gorgeous that man is!!!! No wonder I was in love with him over 30 years ago!

  • I first became a fan of Rick Springfield from watching the Cartoon Mission Magic. It was my second favorite cartoon at the time. It makes me feel real old because I was a little kid when the cartoon premiered.

  • It amazes the direction he went after this. He went commercial in order to find fame. I like this style better. True to the nature of what was happening during that time period. He should bring some of this style back with a bit more rock, we need more positive music for the new age.

  • this sucks

  • EXCELLENT!!

    Thank you.

    5*****.

    Jennie.

  • OMG 1971! The year I was born...he was lookin good back in the day and STILL looks delicious now!!

  • OMG 1971! The year I was born...damn he looked mighty good and now he looks HOT!!

  • No wonder this album was a flop!

  • Ol' Rick was pretty good looking. =]

  • The Seekers did this in 1997, Rick's version was done in 1971.

  • Thanks for postin this godamn fuckin great video! Long live the RS! ^o^

  • Wow! I've seen plenty guys nowadays with that look...The 70's are back! looool

  • I really like this version. I bought his "Beginnings" album when it came out and it had some awesome stuff on it. Mother Can You Carry Me? was great and The Unhappy Ending (Lead Me On) was truly amazing (though it was terribly sad.) BTW-Thanks for posting !!!

  • Wow! i just knew the "80's" Rick Springfield!!!

  • This is an awesome song; a much better version than the one on the record with the tubas!!!! Rick is still a real cutie!!!

  • What fascinates me is that Rick Springfield looked a lot older in 1985 than he does now. He must have a great plastic surgeon.

  • Have you seen him in person. He still looked like he was 25 yrs. old in the 80's but he has the baby face with dimples. He says he always excercised and watch his diet but he does die his hair which is great. Even Billy Squier is two years younger than Rick and Billy looks young cause excercises and eat right but Billy don't die his hair.

  • I had no idea he did this song - I thought The Seekers recorded this first.

  • He did this around 1972....His big fame came much later.

  • omg i went to the nys fair and i touched him!!!!

  • Hey, girl!(?) When my mom and I went to see him at Poplar Creek, in Illinois 1983 we were in the 6th row. We took one of her BRAs with us to throw to him. My bra wasn't big enough back then (32B) so we passed hers up row by row til it got to the stage! What a hoot! BTW - i figured her bra would get more attention and it did- 44D! He gave it to the keyboardist who then left it there. What fun memories.

  • lol we wanted to when he started playing whats victorias seceret but i was wearing my walmart bra. but we didn't even think about it, but it was AWESOME!!!

  • Rick's so adorable. Then and now!

  • Rick is still performing today. I love all his music.

  • No, if you play the song backwards on a gliekenspiel you hear the words "Paul is a dead head."

  • I had no idea that he did this song, although I heard it a few tijmes when it came out. He had some nice tunes.

  • Rick was 22 in this video. Well, he could have been 21. The year was 1971. The year he turned 22

  • There was a great version of this song by The Seekers on youtube recently but I can't find it anymore. Someone please upload it!!

  • Seekers version is there now (in case you were not aware, since you asked a month ago).

  • Thanks.

  • I prefer this live version to the one on the actual album on which it was released. It sounds better with Rick's guitar solo rather than the monotonous repetitive tuba on the recorded version. I think Rick is always at his best while performing live.

Not to mention he looks like a doll in this video. So cute.

I love this video, I watch it over and over lol. Thanks for posting it.

  • rick look so cute xD he is soo hot

  • I know RIGHT???

  • thanks for posting this vid

BTW love the cid boggels icon too miss the old carry on films

  • good song!

  • That's Izzy Foreal on bass, when he was Peter Knox (the backing band was The Third Union Band)

  • Well now he is American, he recently passed the test, took the oath & became a US citizen. He says America is his home.

  • good song i love rick in 70s

  • we do this song @ church sometimes in our Worship set as well as "Life Is A Celebration"....

  • I hope he gets back to his roots and I am glad to hear he has be come a LEGAL citizen of the USA.

    I throughly enjoy his music.

    Robin

    (A Dogg Person)

  • i wish i went to your church

  • @apartfromthecrowd - what about Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky"?

  • @apartfromthecrowd ...wtf???...god bothering...shove it!

  • @TheE49 .....I'll shove it right back at u brah......haha.....go crawl back into your atheist hole.....haha

  • Well, I confess that I thought that he was american... He had me fooled big time... :-)

  • Rick could play the shit out of that axe...Damn

  • Back in 200o I told him ones that his aussie accent threw me for a loop... He laughed at that.. I told him I had some Mission Magic on VHS and he said "Oh Man." overall a really good sport about his past.

  • I remember that show, A Filmation production. Also responsible for ST:Animated & the various Archie cartoons.

You didn't KNOW he was an Aussie??? Please don't tell me you thought he was American?

He's been back a few times here over the lastr few years.

  • wow he a bit spunky !!

  • i love this song its mine and my dads

  • nice performance...i almost prefer this to the studio version...ace!

  • My first encounter with Rick on Saturday afternoon on American Bandstand...played the album to death. Had his photo's all over my bedroom walls. Been a loyal, loving fan ever since. Hard to believe it's been 36 years but he's still as HOT as ever!

  • Izzy Foreal ( then Peter Knox ) recorded this video with Rick Springfield. Dave the Bloke Ovenden is on Drums. They were in there to do their own recording with perhaps Johnny and the Ringworms or the THIRD UNION BAND. They did that. On ABC. GTK - Getting to Know.

  • remember this song, omg ..it cant be 35 years can it?still sounds fresh!

  • A real Aussie hottie to make this homos heart beat!

  • Why,whats wrong with it?

  • Mission: Magic! is an animated cartoon starring pop singer and musician Rick Springfield. It was produced by Filmation, and was a spin off of the television cartoon show, 'The Brady Kids'. Although only 16 episodes were ever produced, it aired on the US television network ABC weekly on the Saturday morning lineup from from 1973 through 1975. It was also shown on Australian television.

  • Yes and I think there was a record of the same title released. And Mission Magic was made by the same people that did the Archie cartoon shows.

  • Yes!

Archie, Groovie Goulies, Sabrina the teenage witch, Fat Albert,My favorite martians (cartoon) ,and more. Their cartoons were pricey to make.

  • I remember that show!! You're the first person I've seen that remember that show. I was beginning to wonder if I had imagined it - I couldnt' remember the name of it. :) Wow - now I know what to put in the search field. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • @punchcar I have loved this song for many years. I had it on a 45 record. It was on the flip side! God Bless!

  • @punchcar This song was on the flip side of a 45 record I had back when I was about 9 years old. I simply love it and will never forget this! I use to harmonize with my sisters to it. God Bless!

  • How cute !!!

I believe this was the year before

    Rick came to the USA.

  • He looked like a doll, he's so pretty and still is til this day. I asked my 47 year old sister:Whose more pretty now, David Cassidy or Rick Springfield? She said Rick Springfield.

  • I had the original Capitol 45,with a then not-as-common (1972) B & W picture sleeve. Loved the song then,still love it now.

  • OMG!!!!! I'm so glad you put this on here!!!!

  • Is this back with Zoot? I think that was the name of his first band. I know he did a solo version from his "Beginnings" LP (1972). Prior to that, he was with Zoot, I believe.

  • No this is post Zoot effort. I think it may have been the first thing he did solo.

  • This is an awesome video!

  • Yes By 1971, Rick no longer wanted to dress in pink the uniform that Zoot wore and became a solo artist, Speak to the Sky was his first Solo Album and single.

  • I recall it was the drummer (Rick Brewer?)who wanted the band to go from pop to a more heavy style. But I don't know what Rick's view on this was considering what he did after he left Zoot.

  • Yes he was also in favor of the heavier sound, doing a metal version of Eleanor Rigby before leaving, his open mocking of the pink suits and the management might have gotten him dismissed from the group if he hadn't left. They should have listened to Rick as the group was attacked by a homophobic gang and Darryl Cotton was injured in the attack, this despite it was well known they were all heterosexual.

  • @1BarefootCowboy

Wer ist sprengfeld?ich werde dir sagen was er ist,er ist ein mann, der frauen stiehlt.Er hat meine linda gestohlen und wird er's zahlen!!!

    stop>>

  • The best Rick Springfield song! Rock on! hahaha woo...

  • Nice rendition, but I prefer the Seekers. I've still given this a 4 star rating.

  • Actually it isn't a rendition since this was the original version by the original artist, so actually the seekers would have the rendition as opposed to Rick Springfield.

  • Hard to believe 35 years have gone by since this song became a hit in the US. I still it as much now as I did back then. It will always be my favorite Rick Springfield song, no matter who covers it :)

  • Wow !!!! So cute !!! I saw him not long ago--he is still so awesome!!! Looks & sounds great & so much energy!!! Loved that he came back on General Hospital!! It was great!!

  • reminds me of "hee haw"

  • nothin' wrong with "hee haw"

  • I didn't say it was bad. funny

  • Rick rocks!

  • Rick looks like such a boy here. I respect his song for the time it was great. He is so much more mature now. His music has so evolved, he gets so much better as he ages. Long Live Rick!!!! He is Awesome

  • Yeah,I agree! He looked cute. He is still hot now! His music is awesome!

  • OK. I cried from start to finish while I tried to sing-a-long to it. It took me right back to my early teenage years when Rick pictures covered my bedroom wall. Thanks for posting this fantastic clip and to Rick who deserves everything good in life - he has earned it!

  • That was so incredible!!! I have a lot of Rick stuff that I recorded when I was a kid but I dont have this!!! Thanks for putting this on!!!

  • I never thought I'd see video of that song again!! Thank you!

Does anyone remember the Saturday morning cartoon ca. 1973-74?

Lots of plaid bellbottoms from what I remember... that would be a treat to see, too!

  • I remember it, was called "Mission Magic."

  • You have an excellent memory

I think it was called Mission Magic.

    Ah, the good old days!

  • Are these guys in the band still available??

  • love it ty for sharing

  • While Rick has a lot of great songs, this one is favorite song of all of Rick's discography! This is the song that inspired me to pick up guitar after quitting lessons the year before...and also inspired me to write songs myself!
