Alright, this scene confirms it: Kenneth Branagh is, without a doubt, one of the best Shakespearean actors out there! The way he interprets Hamlet's "madness" is just brilliant!
@vamplover16ify Honest could mean sexually pure. For instance when he is asking ophelia later on about if she is honest. So that could be one meaning, but I'm no expert on shakespeare at all so feel free to contradict me. lol
i thot this movie was a great interpretation of hamlet....however, after robin williams showed up with those ridiculous sideburns, i couldnt take the movie seriously anymore.
The mumbling of word part was kinda dumb. He's supposed to be mad, not stupid. But I did think the last "Except my life" where is eyes got wide was pretty funny.
I have never seen this movie before and we are watching it in one of my college classes and when me and my friends saw him do the last "Words" we died laughing!!! So random and hilarious! It was so unexpected :)

To be honest I prefer Mel Gibson's portrayal. In this one KB is just so effin angry. For those who believe he is mad like I do it's just too much. Gibson's scene is also more comical
bloody brilliant scene. I have the 2-Disc DVD and it's just BLOODY BRILLIANT. Gets better with each viewing. Mr. Branagh REALLY did Shakespeare's greatest tragedie full justice. i loved the way Hamlet insulted Polonius throughout. i also like the "What A Piece Of Work Is A Man" scene, which follows this one and the scene with Charlton Heston as Player King. those are just some of the highlights in this magnificent & epic 4-hour uncut version of Shakespeare's greatest tragedie.
In the insightful commentary on the 2-Disc DVD, Mr. Branagh thoroughly explains his fascination with "Hamlet" & how that led to this wonderful epic film.
I love this scene, "except my liiifffe" and "words, words, words" are such brilliant lines. I wonder if I can find Ken saying "I love much ado" anywhere? lol :o)
