  • xD irgendwann siehts aus wie in meim zimmer ;D

  • it is lassoh not lassoo

  • @nintendent it isnt lassoo or lassoh. its lasso. idiot.

  • just use the lassu

  • i would use this great software, it is a must exually. please let me know if i can get this from somewhere.

  • good luck trying to find anything though,

  • This is awesome and brilliant.

  • This will not be the way of the future of desktops.

I see touch screens a reality but not in this sloppy format.

Why in the world would you want a desktop with such a sloppy looking mess.

  • epic want!!!!

  • tbh this is completely useless, was fun for 5 minutes of playing then it got crap

  • Cool! Two desks to disord now! x DDD~~~

  • i have this desktop!100% useless

  • downloaded this. was pretty useless to be honest

  • what if you have million of files in a lot of folders? it would be messy to find what u need with this desktop

  • wow its really fun to use this desktop

  • 0:15 lol gangsta dollars

  • try bumptop

  • guys, check bumptop out. it is soo similar like this. you can download for free, or you can buy the full version. enjoy!

  • thats stupid

  • I think this is cool. An easily accepted adaptation of this might be making a folder containing all the icons rather than a pile of icons. The quick view of folder icons on the desktop could be very cool though - sort of like Apple's implementation of "stacks", but not limited to the dock.

  • BAADDD IDEA.

Not organized, you cant see document names.... etc.

  • @RidgeRacerLord thats true this idea is kind of weird

  • Cool, but the whole reason we put things on computers is to avoid this messy behavior.

  • looks good and is a very interesting toy.

But i am very skeptical in how far this is gonna help working productivly.

  • wow i have bumptop but saw a lot of things i cant do on bumptop. very coll program

  • Lassooooo. This guy needs to learn to pronounce it correctly.

  • this is a program...-.-

  • yep i have it too^^

  • How about combining some ideas of this 3d desktop with Compiz?

  • Wow, how cool! Can one get this program already?

  • its not as conveinient as the original desktop but still pretty cool

  • So because people are lazy and won't clean or organize their desks. You (the ones behind the idea) think it's a good idea to bring all that clutter to computers. Tbh this is really dumb. Would be fun playing around with it though.

  • The icons act the way they do in "real Desktop" but it has the lasso in bumptop.

    I think it's both combined. =P

  • That lassoooo tool looks like a cowboy's lasso (La-sow). :)

  • whats it called

  • For novelty purposes, it looks amazing, I mean you can make origami with your report. As for usability, I prefer having all the icons vertical.

  • When I see the tremendous disorganized and confusing mess on my desk and in my den, I often wished I could replicate that mess on my computer's desktop. Now I can!!!

    Thanks!!

  • well i think it would be useless for a desktop computer but like what checkzack said it would probably be more useful on a hands held device

  • WAY TOO USELESS. People just wanna create stuff but better to win money which is stupid. I mean this is useless. Just use a normal desktop and there. It is just and interacting thing, and this would be very expensive, and when you have it you would be like, why did i bought this? it is totally useless!

  • 2 questions: Can it manipulate folders with files in them as well as files themselves? And this seems like something that can be implemented in Microsoft Surface and the iPhone. Can/Will Microsoft and Apple use this program in their devices? This could be made more realistic and fun using a hands-on device like Surface or iPhone.

  • 2:10 lol the user must be a dummy XD

  • This looks cool, but seems a little excessive. I think this would end up being a lot more complicated, when you can just organize files within folders how you want them.

  • cool but does not look very efficient.

  • Some of you people are idiots how would a system that allows the user complete freedom on document organization and structure be useless. Maybe if your a complete lazy idiot who wants all the work done for you so you can spend hours clicking through folders or trying to use a search program that plain outright sucks.

This would allow people to organize information in the best possible way to suit them. Idiots

  • You're right with that although, as a Mac user, I have to say that Spotlight and Quicksilver can replace the browsing process entirely (As long as one has a general idea of the name of the files).

I assume that the next big step in browsing will be content aware search, by which I mean a search process that doesn't specifically scan for file names but for aspects of their content (Colours in a photo, melodies in a music file etc.).

  • use less

    but

    coooooooooooooooooooool

  • lol at Lasso 'n' Cross. Riping off 'winguardium leviosa', haha.

  • looks kind of cool, but is useless, it's fun to move around in that way but it doesn't organizes files very well... if you want real organization, it has to be automatic and not done by yourself

  • xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • u can see documents, but u cant make them

  • THIS IS A DESKTOP

NOT A FULL FLEDGED OS WITH PROGRAMS

Learn to use the thing between your ears

  • Do you mean the nose, or the brain?

  • thats really cool]

  • this is stupid. mac users uses a real 3d file navigation system called 3D-Space VFS. windows cant touch it.

  • you know, in all my years of using computers I never once though, "If my file system was 3D i'd be much more productive"

I'd just have to look around even more to figure out where the hell I put stuff.

A search box is about 100x more useful than '3d file navigation system'. That's just a gay ass gimic that nobody will ever really use productively. Just to show off and to fap to while screaming out, "YESS STEVE JOBS I LOVE YOU"

  • totally pointless

  • bullshit

  • Haha. How is this purposeful? Isn't the point of the desktop and folders to organize things instead of throw stuff around?

  • So... you're basically taking people's messy, unorganized desktop methods onto an interface that offers nothing really new? It's cute, but unfortunately offers nothing really interesting or innovative. Find a way for people to properly organize their files without the mess and without headaches, and you'll have something that can actually sell!

  • Wow, i hope you aren't running vista.

  • pretty but USELESS!

  • Interesting... pretty neat... Windows would we sweet with that...

  • Can you see the filename??? Because I can't see names in this vid. I would really want filenames. (If I would use it)

  • Where can I download this???

  • this is actually suprisingly useful. its upped my productivity more than i would have imagined

  • Interesting but useless

  • cool but this completly defeats the purpose of the desktop for being organized and fast. this would just slow me down and get annying.

  • i have this

and there is no point to use it

  • This looks really fun to use, but I see no purpuse in using this though :(

  • @groovdafied You're joking right? Lookup bumptop. It might shock you. Sure the interface is in it's pre-alpha phase but it's the desktop of the future.

  • @groovdafied just like the iPad

  • @charlieIAC The IPad does not look so sloppy.

This Demo maybe a Microsoft idea.

Imagine try to do office like this.

  • @groovdafied this would be a good option to have if integrated with the current systems to help organize folders and desktops. the current systems have not been changed or updated in a while

  • *couch* stacks *couch* cover flow *couch* osx Thanks, I have a cold ;)

Okay it looks good, really good user interface, and as long as it wasn't made BY windows, it's good. When will it be available on OSX or where can I get it for windows?

  • lol wasn't this supposed to be vista?

  • This can be download, I had it a time ago and it is pretty fun =)

  • that is pretty cool. it would work really well on a tablet

  • No its not OSX it a Windows Program plug in from Object Desktop.

  • cooooooool

  • this is OSXI, i swear!

  • really cool but would be really tough. plus as far as i saw there wasnt any names on they tiny little picture so it would be tough to find some stuff

  • I have the beta

  • centroid?

  • lol i was thinking the same thing xD

  • i want to shoot the document and see it blow up to pieces !

  • this is insanely cool! "Not practical" my ASS, this thing would totally work. like anything, it would take a little time toget used to, but that's so cool! I've always wanted to use a 3d desktop! nice job!

  • This is awesome. I don't care what people say about "not practical" or "wouldn't use it". Bull! It's amazing. Plus, it's just a prototype, so it's not supposed to be perfect or complete - these are great ideas, though. Absolutely amazing.

But where did he get his pronunciation of "lasso"? It's a singular O, so it's "LASS-oh", not "las-SUE". Strange.

  • lol this would be so fun! O um ok this is trash so i cumple it up and throw it in the corner! I love this!!!!

  • nice concept..... not practical

  • only problem is the files all look the same, and its not productive to have the half the cpu/gpu used just by the desktop!

  • Could jou send me an .exe file, i could use this. Will it work on XP. i'd like to hear soon

  • its a good idea but its not practical, it would just get frustrating knocking over stuff

  • Nice concept! I don't see this particular form spreading around, but there's certainly a great overall idea there! it was about time for someone to show up and start working on the concept of 3d OS interfaces - And les agree that putting windows on a cube is not 3d OS! I'd like to know more about the project...

  • what the hell, why would I want to throw my shit around and keep it in a mess???

  • DRAGON CROSS!!! :P

  • I think that idea is really cool.

i would buy it if it were out.

    =]]

  • that is ssoooo cool buts its LASSO not LASSU...that drove me crazy lol. good work!

  • its awesome!. I mean now your desktop, instead of being lame and have only one use, is now a playground, a tool, something to do when you're bored and you have a download in progress...

  • Whos crazy idea was this?! I dont want a mess on my screen. Its enough trouble just doing what I need to do quickly when everything is organized. Why would anyone want piles?

  • Why simulate the "reality" when today's organizing is superior? I'd love (or not) to see that desktop with a couple of thousands of files. My file manager handles it just fine.

  • looks like apple steals the idea

  • it looks like fun but after 10 minutes i would punch the screen

  • looks like fun... but thats all

  • why would i want the ability to make a mess when i dont have too?

  • why would you go back to such an old method of dealing with files. the computer-filesystem we are using now is the revolution from the "pile on desk" system... otherwise we would just print all our document and do a pile on a real desk! ffs

  • cool but USELESS!

  • very cool, but i'm not sure i would use it. Searching is faster

  • Note that this is not a final release or anything. It's just a simulation to give you an idea of what future desktop environments may be like, to make the experience more "human". I'm sure icon previews, file names, other UI features etc. will be added if it gets implemented, this is just a rough framework that I think is really promising. By then Folders, or at least one-level folders (no idea how they're going to do nested ones) will be outdated because piles offer so much more functionality.

  • Useless idea.

  • I've got your messy pile right here.

  • DRAGON CROSS FTW!

  • I love the ide with the photos

  • very cool!how do we get it or make it?

  • this is one piece of shitty softwares. garbage... who made it?

  • i agree. it's just stupid. i would not like to waste my time just for playing around with a 3d desktop.

  • this is really stupid. more just for fun. heres a tip pc developers, don't try anything new, just copy apple. you'll be ok

  • apple?? thats stupid.

  • Maybe for a game of some sort, but I think that mouse-grid-2d method is still better than this one.

  • wow, this is really a good Idea, some people might argue with me but you should sell this. It's awesome!

  • I can see this has been well thought out, but I think its old thinking, no offence. I don't know exactly how 3D will work but its got to be something completely different.

  • You can't quickly recognize an icon if it's rotated or disoriented. Or find an upside down photo- why the forced disorganization? But I like the grouping features- could be a nice way to auto-create a folder for the files.

  • Desktop isn't that interesting for 3D.

    Mindmapping is.

    Presentations are.

They have a lot of inner logic that can be better displayed and arranged with a further dimension. This is not the case with the desktop - actually, you can work without the desktop...

  • Why must we switch from the mouse to this? This is way more strenuous work. No can do.

  • would definael be a winner wiha pair of virual gloves

  • I don't think this is needed... Makes stuff to messy. But if they are going to put this in windows and apple then I hope you can choose between grid and freemove thingy... And that we can have folders on that desktop too... I don't really like the pile idea... But if I could pile folders, then I would be happy =3

  • penumbra shadows too!!! please

  • Realtime shading, physics and lighting!!!! that's what I was hoping to see from vista after a while but that is a joke on me i guess.

  • nice triple dollar ring... lol

  • right click , new folder , drag the stupid files inside that is a tidy pile ...

    please fresh ideas .

nothing new exept the playing with the mouse more than just "right clik refresh rectangle , right clik refresh rectangle , right clik refresh rectangle , right clik refresh rectangle , right clik refresh rectangle , right clik refresh rectangle , right clik refresh rectangle , right clik refresh rectangle ..."

  • fantastic

  • Won't mind if the documents/images/videos/sound files were like real files as in you can see previews instead of just icons.

  • One problem. You can't read the file name. Say you have five mp3's on your desktop, how would you know which one's which? They have the same icon. Major flaw.

  • lol lets all pack up and go home!

  • i would loose track of time playing wit this desktop

  • and we need this...why?

  • i wona have the download link

  • Its called BumpTop =)

  • Not a bad thing, but...... you play with it for a few hours and then uninstall it. I tried it a few months ago and that was funny. But not really usefull. It's just for fun, put files really into the trash, to have the files which can collides etc... but boring and it has still some bugs because of explorer.exe. It would be better if it was able to work without explorer, so the start menu would not come sometimes in front of the desk^^

  • This was really good, I wish I could have that. I wish I could have it now. Damn, it looked good.

  • It's bad enough to have a disorganized desk...but to justify it by recreating it VIRTUALLY....pretty weird! But awesome use of physics though A+

  • i dont get it what the point of this technology?

  • this is gay, because having a neat desktop is a good thing. This takes that away.

  • yeah this would take forever to find anything.. especially for poeple who need to find a lot of stuff quickly.

  • I think this should be a document basement, so you have a OS X like gui for apps, but when you want to browse files and folders, you head downstairs into a 3d environment, much like the transition from OS X to FrontRow or TimeMachine.

    Pay attention to this Jobs!!

  • they probably should have shown more techiniques on how to organize my computer

but really they should have shown stuff like the interent, word documents, videos, and more useful things

  • cool but wouldn't use it its pointless

  • i wouldnt want to use this

  • What do you have YOUR tidiness set to? Mine's 15. And just yesterday I spend HOURS moving my icons around my desktop.

This is REALLY dumb you know.

  • gui with physics , great (!)

  • is it a game and where can you find it

  • It's not a game. It's an application. And you can check the status of the software at the website mentioned in the introduction.

  • O.o this is cool

  • How do you know what the document is called???!! sure, you can see the type of document, but what about its name?!

  • kinda cool but stupid

  • i think thats a good idea, i hope they make it for xp, vista and osx. but i dont know how much would be resonable to charge...

  • i think this would only sell to kids as more of a realistic training game for working in the corporate world, but then again, this is more like an ATTEMPT at science fiction than actual use in the office

  • ZOMG! what the hell is that weird "wussup homie!" ringish thing on the hand at 00:12

  • ok its possible its easier to use with tablet pc's and stylus/pen(ever tried to double click with a pen?) but most of it could be integrated in 2d view which is actually better for interaction with a mouse and the pile making is a type of making folders. But exept for fast(erish) arrange its not really practical of course if your job isnt arranging files all day.(or youre bored at work and play phys sims) Altough its a very good research project to try to push the ways we interact with computers

  • yeah.. cool.. but where are the file names?

  • its just right for slobs. didn't we see this from apple quite a few years back at a developer's conference? i seem to remember this...

  • Seems familiar to me also. But it to lack a major concept: metadata. No filenames, creation/modification dates, file sizes, types, permissions, and so forth. These are data that would otherwise be displayed in list views.

  • cool!

  • And how is that helping me? I mean, it's not practical...not helping...it's an innovation just at graphics and interaction....but not practical.

  • Do you really think so? I totally disagree... there are many ways to work around for many different kinds of people.

I'm one of the kind who does find this practical...

  • wow its amazing!!!

    wanna have this...this thing! lol

    omg! thats so coooool!!!!

  • Is it just me, or do those look like Mac icons?

  • How is having a cluttered desktop a good thing? If software in the future is designed to make our lives even more disorganized, that's not a good thing. Considering the huge amount of data people have to deal with, clutter is bad. Graphically, this looks nice. But the concept is flawed. The future is in haptics and natural speech recognition. Apple's iPhone shows just how successful touch can be for computer navigation.

  • If this was operated on MultiTouch instead of Graphics tablet, it would be PERFECT =D

  • ok i see icons but whers the titles

  • it looks really cool and sounds really cool, but i like the idea of perfect organization on my pc, why would i want to be unorginized on a computer....its like were going backwards

  • Reminds me a bit of stacks, ony this is cooler (:

  • very cool,

im guessing this will be on a tablet laptop or

only when transitioning from the desktop to the dock viewing.

  • ...so basically, "we explore how to take out everything that made your computer more organized than the pile of crap on your desk."

    yeah, that's a good idea...

  • its a great looking interface...be great if it was touch based rather than mouse base....also, incorporating multi touch....

I noticed a lot of people being really defensive about thoer windows machines...surely the point is you shouldn't have to "know how to look after" you pc in order for it to run well. It should run well without the user (usually non tech people) having to perform maintenece and other tasks to keep out virus etc...just my $0,02

  • this is totally useless. the whole point of designing computer interfaces is to do away with the clutter and disorganization that we struggle with when dealing with physical objects, not replicate it.

  • Exactly!I have it and it's completely useless.

  • Seconded. How does having a messy desktop with documents which 'bounce off' each other help?

  • Didnt they say that computers would lead to the paper free desk?

Well that never happened, and i think that this is bridging the gap between the real desk and the computerized desk.

You wouldn't have ti have this all the time, it could be a sub environment for file handling. Its a great idea and i hope it catches on.
