Anyway, the bit about if Nova Scotia was part of the Maritimes was a continuation of a joke that was running the whole episode. There was a Danish guy in the audience so they kept referencing him and debating which countries were part of Scandinavia. It wasn't a slight against Nova Scotia or a history lesson. And for everyone who is complaining about the song choice, well, it wasn't their pick. The booker for the s
I remember when I was younger and watching Wintersleep at both the YJH and the Cotton Mill, I told Paul one time that they would be famous and had the whole band sign my CD. Paul seemed thrilled that I thought so highly of them and I guess I was right about Wintersleep becoming famous, congrats all, Yarmouth is proud! :)
I understand it makes business sense to play their most commercially successful song on such a popular show, but I really wish they chose something like Black Camera or Encyclopedia. Both songs are arguably just as catchy but would have given people a better idea of what to expect on the album, which is what Letterman was advertising.
That aside, great performance and congrats on reaching more new listeners. Seen the lads 4 times live now and will continue to do so every chance I get.
Congratulations to all of you! I hope one day I see you guys play Drunk on Aluminum, Laser Beams, Lipstick, and other great songs. I'm down in New Mexico. I wish there was a way you all could come down here and perform at NMSU. You have solid supporters down here! Since I've known your music, I can't listen to anything else. Thank you for great music.
Yeah Wintersleep! Hometown pride representing Haliwood!! Even though I hate letterman, it's good publicity for the boys. :) Saw these guys live on 2 occasions, once on Citadel Hill for Alexander Keith's birthday (the best IPA beer in CANADA!!), and once at the old Marquee club. How I miss those days. They are amazing in concert!!
@hungrytacoboy: Weighty Ghost is there most popular (catchy/upbeat) song that most people recognize. Most of the rest of their songs have little lyrics with all inst
Disappointment ditto. This is a terribly monotonous song. It's made interesting only by the much drooled-over "intricate" drumming, which is nonetheless pretty garden-variety brush-work.
@oxonionian I have to agree. Followed these guys since Kary. I still listen to body without organs but this CD was just crap. :< Wintersleep was always monotonous but it was the kind you liked to listen to because it had that eerie grab to it. This stuff is just... IDK... BLEH
I agree with previous comments- weighty ghost was kind of a disappointment as far as song choice goes. Wintersleep has lots of great new songs and this isn't even off there new album! Nor does it really sound like the their other material.
Regardless, this is awesome and I'm really proud of the band for making it on here- Loel was pretty funny at the end as well!
I wish they would have played a different song, one other than Weighty Ghost. Why not something from the new album? I would have loved to hear Baltic. Also, every YouTube "suggestion" is another Weight Ghost video. What about their other songs?! Aha. I'm very glad they got onto Letterman though!
What are you responding to with this pompous comment? I'm an American living in Nova Scotia. I'm not an easily offended person, but I'm really tired of Canadians who hold their noses in the air against the US when they have no real experience. Sure there are asshole Americans, but please stop thinking their aren't just as many dicks in Canada. I love Canada and the US, but remember that we both have our share of a-holes.
@SurfGreenTelecaster it takes literally 10 seconds of research to find out where nova scotia is and that it is a part of canada. i realise it was a joke (hopefully) but it was in poor taste considering the band is from nova scotia and there would have been hundreds of nova scotians watching this episode. it was just a dumb thing to say. and yes, there are definitely assholes everywhere but americans tend to be more vocal about their shitty opinions.
Amen brother. From New Glasgow, NS. I've met a lot of nice Americans, and a lot of asshole Canadians in my day. The reverse is certainly true also. I too get tired by stereotypes. Hope you are enjoying your stay.
what happened to his fucking voice? it used to be so low and moving (example: caliber, insomnia)...it started to change, but was great for "welcome to the night sky", probably their best album....but now, it's mouse-y and passionless.
meh. new inheritors was a big let down but they've got what it takes to turn things around.
Nice, Dave got up for the proper shake good bye. These guys rock, saw them years ago in Antigonish for New Years, suffice to say the vibe is still very much in place. All the best boys...
O.K. Boys, First of all Congrats, You guys were really Great on Letterman. You guys have worked hard and deserve the recognition. You've come along way.
PS re: the drums... I seriously hope you didn't have an instrument issue (i.e. lost in transit or something), this time around. You're ungodly luck in that department out stands me!
Gentlemen, I could not wipe the smile off of my face. WoW!! To see a few boys from the lil old Maritimes do as well as you do, gives me such an unbelievable sense of pride! You have worked so hard and deserve every inch of success. I have followed your career, and have praised you from the west coast and back again.
Glad to see Mr. Letterman has become a fan, he seemed quite smitten;)
Is Nova Scotia a part of Canada.......not only ugly but ignorant and Stupid toooooo.......and NO SCHAFFER it is NOT the SEA!......glad the got the opportunity to show their talent on such a big show though.......GOOD JOB!.
