@Mr45hitman dude, hate to burst your bubble, but theres only the Interceptor package...nothing else, its standard fleet issue. Pursuit package is just another name for the Interceptor, its what they called it before the Interceptor name out in 1999. Im sure your probably only making 230-250 hp to the ground with your mods on a CVPI. I am a Crown Vic collector and enthusiast for many years and I own a 1998 P71 "pursuit package".
@moparmaniac21 The standard civillian Crown Victoria only tops out at 110 MPH. Iv'e seen CVPI's top out as high as 134 mph. They're not going to get a lot of accel because they aren't Mustang GT's but once they get goinjg they can really top out. CVPI's are not speed restricted by the computer chip.
@Astromchaser yes they are they have a fuel feed line that shuts off at 135 mph and the cvp71 is is 3 gear a 4000 rpm i took my limiter and disabled it and i have hit 143 with no problem but then your out of gears.
@moparmaniac21 oh ok i wasnt to sure on it cuz ive seen like these cars in the local PD's fleet that say pursuit vehicle and the others say police interceptor and i did some research and they said its jus a HO 4.6L SOHC engine out of the mustang GT and you were right its got 270 to the wheels but she flies for a 4200lbs boat
i got a ported air box, rear cat delete, super 44 flowmasters an a pursuit pkg with tune on my 01 crown vic an im making 385 to the fly wheel idk how how much to the rear IT IS A PURSUIT PKG NOT JUST AN INTERCEPTOR
@Mr45hitman ... even if it was a typo, and you meant 285, instead of 385 ... youre still full of shit ... might be lucky if youre making 210-220 to the ground, maybe 250-260 at the flywheel ... dyno sheet or STFU
@bestamerica Those were on the earlier Crown Vics like the 98's through 2000's then later on they just stuck with the all black trim and all red brake light and the older ones had chrome around the bottom of the lights
have a 1987 Mercury Cougar XR7 I just got some Straight pipes from the Headers a Flowmaster each and Chrome Tips how many extra horses should I expect?
@Luis6K Honestly, you wont notice much of an increase in hp unless you go full bore and buy long tube headers an upgraded H or X pipe and larger tubing. Even still, you'd only really see a 5-10 hp increase MAX. You might notice a little difference in bottom end torque and response, but again, it would be a "little" difference.
@araxis666 lol, good point. Should have said "Straight pipes in place of mufflers" Stupid cats. Although a zip cut and some exhaust piping could fix them in a hurry.... hehe
@LiveForVettes Mine is straight piped, X pipe, flowmasters. You can check out my vid if you wanna see what it sounds like. Based off this vid and a few others, I think I shoulda left the cats on haha (I took out all 4)
WRONGO. I know two guys both with Vics. One runs custom long-tubes and the other runs bbk shorties. Both have full exhaust with no cats and their cars are fine. Not to mention, both of them also run a shot of nitrous too. Cats are for losers. :-)
@Nebula735@LiveForVettes No, they won't destroy themselves. You'll just have very low backpressure and get horrible mileage and less performance unless you specifically tune it to run with the lower backpressure.
@1999CSVT My mileage didn't change in the least bit actually. The back pressure issue is one I find very entertaining. You don't need back pressure. We are talking about a four stroke engine here, not a two stroke. Back pressure in a 4 stroke engine should be avoided at all costs, causing more harm than it would anything else.
True, however I have noticed that with a specific tune on my SCT unit for the exhaust sans Cats versus with, I get better mileage and performance. I wasn't arguing with you, more going from my own experience. Of course, with the specific tune and without as much restriction, the car and motor runs better. I'm suggesting that rather than just cut parts off, one make sure to tune the engine to run without those parts.
@1999CSVT I wasn't arguing either, just see people all the time saying "omg no backpressure ur engine gonna xplode!!" lol I have actually considered buying an SCT unit for my car, I've heard a lot of good stories about them. Did you find a noticeable performance increase with yours?
With standard pump gas 89 octane stuff, no. Not really. With premium and octane booster, I feel a noticeable difference, especially with new plugs and clean air filter. If you advance the spark it's noticeable also. I have not used a dyno to tune, I rely on a wideband 02 sensor which is not nearly as precise. I love it, and suggest it for everyone with a Crown Vic. I don't plan on putting any more money into the car until I can afford a DOHC swap though :D
@AvlachA Yeah, they sound nice opened up, I just put a set of Hooker Aerochambers on mine, didnt even get to break them in and the Transmission bit the dust :( Think it might be time for a 5 speed swap hehehe
I like the Dynomax race Bullets There just as loud but they cut out the backrapping in the pipes a lot, and there much better made then the glasspack style muffs.
I'm sure it sounds a lot different once its out on the road though, we did straight pipes on my cousins 89 with two high flow cats and it sounded awesome.
Thanks man! Yes, it has the stock tail pipes and with the 3.55 gears in it the only time it drones is around 60mph on the highway (right at the cruising speed of course...) other than that its very bearable to drive. I'll try and get some interior vids soon.
cool thanks for the reply dude. i had glasspacks on my old 99 cvpi. it sounded good. but after watching a ton of crown vic/ mustang exhaust videos, these 4.6's sound great with a wide open exhaust.
If you got cats then thats not a straight pipe, a straight pipe is when you have a pipe with no type of exhaust system, just a hollow tube

@Astromchaser my dads had his doing 140mph and it was just climbing at that when I through my tuner on it and checked theres no speed limiter on it

Im a little confused... You're saying it's a straight pipe but it has cats? Wouldn't that be what makes it NOT a straight pipe? :-p

These engines need the cats to run, if you remove them this engine will DESTROY itself.
Nebula735 1 year ago
@Nebula735 I'm not sure how you figure it will destroy itself, but it will put on the check engine light and throw some codes
