  • It is valuable to realize that the classical scientific worldview is meaningless by design, i.e. meaningless is an artifact of the methodology of focusing only on that which is quantifiable, repeatable and observer independent, however that is not all there is, although far too many scientists unthinkingly accept as dogma that meaninglessness is inherent in nature instead of just being an artifact of their methodology. Insights like Sahtouris' are definitely needed to correct this.

  • When it comes to bullshit; religion crosses every limit. God is an invention of human mind. However the universe is a living being and we are just mere invisible bacteria living in it in certain part of the universal body which is indeed a living being.The bacteria consider the veins, muscles, skin, blood as non living elements. How living came out of non-living? Only living-being can reproduce. The universe keeps reproducing. We are part of a living universe.

  • I have loved Sahtouris' work for many years. Yeah! Her words were extremely important in my life once, maybe saved my life, as I described in my book, Rattlesnake Fire.

  • we evolved from whirl pools?

    better than mud!

  • Is this woman really a biologist? If so, it's embarrassing that a biologist's understanding of Darwin is so limited.

  • tarnopol is clearly someone who has a very limited degree of original thinking, something which all good scientists need. most of the top scientists in the world have got to where they are by thinking for themselves and outside of the box. if you have ever exercised your little gray cells, you would know that there are many different realities and all of them are based on the manner in which the environment they are created in is perceived. one reality is no truer than the next.

  • @olmeckahn ...rings true as I perceive my world too!...one could also type 'one reality is as true as the next' kind of like seeing a glass as 1/2 full and/or 1/2 empty

    that aside thanks for making time to share your perspective ...reassuring in an odd sort of way ...I had had similar thoughts reading 'tarnopol's comments

    respect

  • this woman has realized a basic law of being, i am a biologist as well but am also very spiritual. the only successful future for science is a future of science accepting and spirituality and the fundamental laws found through spirituality.

    science can show many people small insignificant facts, spirituality shows an individual really significant and important truths which that individual needs to better the world.

  • @olmeckahn thank-you for making time to share your thoughts ...I'm curious about this statement "a future of science accepting and spirituality and the fundamental laws found through spirituality." I'm thinking you meant "science accepting spirituality" ...I absolutely agree moroever I'm understanding that physicists are working with sub-atomic theories such as 'possibilities of interrelationships'

    that aside ...I found your comment 'a worthwhile read' and insight full

    respect

  • A new religion.

  • Finally, someone besides myself who has figured this all out. Great job Sahtouris! Unfortunately, the only way to come to this conclusion is through a level of philosophy by which few are capable. But us westerners are way too addicted to science to make philosophical conclusions. But unfortunately almost all scientists make unfounded conclusions about the universe from the get go, like the ridiculous idea that there is even matter at all.

  • wow;

    she is so right about maturing out of the competitive phase and going into a cooperative phase; and about how humans are the only species on this planet that consider themselves seperate from nature and all that stuff;

    also groundless and tarnopol are obviously idiot's who has never studied quantum physics,

  • In fact, it's quite hubristic -- laughable, really -- to think that you have figured out The Way Everything -- And I Mean Everything -- Is. That's exactly the kind of arrogance she hates about "Western science." Yes, I think overly extended evolutionary psychology/sociobiology and physics-based "theories of everything" are equally silly.

  • Exactly correct, groundless. This is just blather, and it's come up in various forms throughout the history of biology. This is what I'd call "San Francisco Creationism." Some people cannot handle the simple fact of evolution, an amoral intelligence-free universe, and general adulthood. All she does is play with metaphors. That's fine, and call it poetry or fiction, but don't call it science.

  • Spirituality and science were only seperated for historic reasons. Agreed.

  • wow, what a bunch of crap. you can't just make stuff up, and just postulate things about "consciousness" that cannot be tested, and get away with thinking there is anything "scientific" going on here.

  • Yep, guess you are what your name says

  • @groundless

    curious what your big contribution would be?

    I would agree with the other person - maybe your screen name may be very apropo.

  • A vital, important message..

  • thank you for putting this up, i found it useful.

  • Thanks so much for posting these! Fascinating and resonant.
