Why does law enforcement always have such an issue with video cameras? If they are completely within the law at all times why would they be worried about being on camera? You actually don't need a warrant to search your trunk or car. If the border patrol agent had probable cause he could search the vehicle. But it all needs to be back by reasonable suspicion, in this case neither of them were doing anything wrong and didn't look suspicious...therefore none of that comes into play.

My husband & I were traveling from YUMA TO SAN DIEGO & was stopped @ the checkpoint before we reached SD & also asked us if we were american citizens than precessed to ask IF they could check our truck & my husband said NO so they sent us to secondary & ask again IF they could check out truck again he said no you can't, WHY?? On July 7, 2010 we did basically the same thing; we drove west out of Marana, the pavement turned to dirt as we traveled approx 17 miles back into the huge area identified as the Ironwood Forest National Monument. Saw a sign "suggesting" human and drug traffic zone. Lots of footprints/empty water bottles in washes. According to the maps we were on Silver Bell Road. We turned east at the juncture of Sasco Road and the road to Silverbell Mine. Drove 18 miles east to the town of Red Rock. B&J
