Reed strength number has nothing to do with the thickness of the reed. Rather, it has to do with the density or flexibility of the cane. A 2 and a 5 in the same brand should measure the same thickness and same shape profile, the 2 is just more flexible, and the 5 is stiffer.
Not necessarily i'm assuming you have had a few yaears of experience on the clarinet...so you should deifnitely be at least on a size 3.......2/2.5 is extremely 2 thin for one who has been playing the clarinet for some time.
its not bad nor good but my private tutor told me untill you've played for at least a year you should start on a 3 for you i would recomend a 2 or a 2 1/2
It doesn't say anything about types of reeds. Reeds I would reccommend though are Gonzalez F.O.F.,Vandoren Traditional or V12 or Rue Lepic, Rico Grand Concert Evolution, Rico Grand Concert Thick Blank, Rico Reserve and Rico Reserve Classic. The idea is that a 3 is minimum for playing unless it is jazz and you are playing on a clarinet jazz mouthpiece.Try a few of each over time and see what suits you. Reeds are inconsistent sometimes so try a few of each before assuming if they are good or bad.

Anything under a 3 is generally too soft for ANY mouthpiece unless you are playing on a jazz mouthpiece
