I have loved Andrew's music since I was fourteen and was given a burned copy of Konstantine by an older friend. Ten years later, I'm still in awe of the man and the beauty of what he makes. This is the most intimate and powerful song I know. Thank you, Andrew McMahon.
I literally get *chills* every time I hear this. Andrew (or Andy as i more commonly refer to him) McMahon is, without doubt, one of the most inspiring musicians ever.
I get goosebumps just from the first notes, then he sings and I melt. Jack's Mannequin is magic and Andrew Mcmahon is an inspiration and a saviour for many. We love you.
I know this isn't one of his most popular songs, but I seriously would call this song one of my favorites. It is easily the most powerful, most emotional song, hands down. I really hope I get to see him perform this live someday.
Unfortunately, we aren't able or capable of writing about these things until we've gone through them ourselves. We who suffer are those who turn around and help the next person struggling. Music changes lives. I'm glad he has opened up about his experience in this song.
What I really love about Andrew is his ability to not only capture emotion through the words of his songs, but also through the way he conveys them with his voice, and this song is the absolute perfect example of that to me. The way his voice almost seems to falter, as if he is feeling weak.. I don't know how to explain it, I guess, but it's just so tender, he has an amazing way of pulling at your heartstrings that way.
I have been in love with Andrew McMahon's music since I was 13. I'm now 20, and my love for it, and appreciation of him, has only grown. The moment I heard him, my life changed. It sounds dramatic, but that's the truth.
@crazypinkrockergurl everyone grows up, even musicians. something corporate has that teenage angst, opposite sex relationship theme to it, while jack's mannequin has a more life-focused, personal, self relationship theme to it. both are awesome, i looove soco and jm to death, but it was necessary to end sc, for himself and for the fans. =\
i feel like ever since thumbs up and down for comments came out, everyone tries to get a thumbs up so they say something they think is intelligent. lol
this song gives me chills everytime i hear it. i had the privilage to see them live, and they sound as good or better than on their album. Andy is a true musician who knows how to reach his audience as well as convey his own story such as this song. deep respect!!
Andrew's ability to write about his experiences and his personal reactions to certain situations in a beautiful abstract manner is absolutely breath taking. He is absolutely brilliant.
Brilliant.
I personally believe he's one of the most talented lyricists in history.
I saw him in concert in Orlando a few months back. Best concert I've ever seen. At one point he was so into the song he was playing the piano with his fist (effing wailing on it). He then proceeded to jump up on the piano and finish the song. This is my favorite song.
I get chills everytime I hear this song. This will always be, in my opinion, the best song ever written by McMahon, because he put so much feeling into it. LOVE IT
omigoose, close your eyes and just listen... it sounds like he's singing to you in you ear!!! (or maybe im just really tired) but this is such a good song and andrew is soooo talented
I just love andrew, he's been through so much and he is strong'. You can really watch how he plays with his heart, how he's loving every melody. that he created himself. I could just watch this video for ever. I love it. This is why i'm in music.
As someone who had Leukemia, who was diagnosed close to the same age as he was, this song resonates for me during a time that was complete hell. I was given their cd and I would listen to this song and completely relate to every word, every note, played and sung. I got my marrow transplant in May and thus far have been in complete remission. I am one of the lucky ones....and so is he. A lot of kids didn't make it. Without the music in my headphones...I might not have.
@Taydiggity03 I am so sorry for what you had to go through. I know this probably doesnt mean much coming from a total stranger. To hear that this amazing man and his music have helped you is just so touching.
This is such as inspirations and emotionfelt song. It sends chills down my spine to learn about what Andrew had to go through. What a strong man to be singing about this. He's amazing.
i actually think he says "i'm caught somewhere in between alive and living the dream" because he was going through cancer treatments. thats the point of this song.
I'm caught somewhere in between alive and living in a dream.
He had been sleeping or falling asleep when he heard this in his head and jumped out of bed to play it out on the piano. I think DJPLAYFUL1's right; it was around 3 or 4 AM.
I love this song...Andrew has an AMAZING voice...live, acoustic, or on the recorded version!!! My fav. Part in the song is when he pauses, then belts out THE WALLS ARE CAVING IIIIIN!
although that part right before he stopped it was my favorite in the whole song (the line about the marrow colliding in rebirth), i still wished he did the whole thing. ah well i'll still take it lol.
also, random, but i was just listening to a lot of something corporate today, and isn't it crazy to see andrew as he is now compared to like five years ago? definitely grew up lol.
I get chills every time I hear this
