The energy from the wave/wind moving you forwards in an original surf board is partially being used to lift the surfer off the water so they will not have as much speed going forwards but alot more stability with slowness and probably more fun too.

theres no point for this hydrofoil board, Surfing is all about taking the wave all the way in , you fuck up your down and you have to catch another. This is like cheating surfing. Your not even in the water with it

@AnthonyEI09 If you watch the film, Step Into Liquid, there IS a point to this Hydrofoil Board. It was created because the surfers home surfing spot had wind chop which was making it difficult to surf otherwise perfect waves. Ghost chop and rough water was the reason for this to be created. Again, watch the movie and understand.

Strange though the video showing a windsurfer with hydrofoil and another conventional windsurfer is actually cathing up on him in the background. DOW.. I really want to try this but I it´s strange its not faster than conventional surfing.. or am I wrong?

planing goes faster with windsurfing maybe because you have more stability so you can get more power out of your sail

The equivalent of the friction in the water might be the same in the end. Windsurfing is always the choice between getting upwind or getting carried away with full speed. Windsurfing fins are designed for not pushing the board up when going fast. For more control a windsurfer puts on a fin with an edge slightly leaning backwards or one that looks like a dolphins fin to keep the board down. If this is becoming a new sport these fins will get their own board designs.

well your sail is higher so it's getting cleaner wind. And theres less friction.

the height difference is minimal so doensn't count for much. and foiling is less stable so it's much more difficult to get the same power out of your sail. besides, it looks boring in comparison to regular windsurfing...

You get back on the board as a traditional windsurfer I guess. Then when you accelerate it will leave the water.. like windsurfing with a 48 cm traditional fin when it´s blowing too much for that..
