  • Flopsweat and I Have No Mouth, But I Must Scream FTW

  • Ellison mentions his "Pennies, Off A Dead Man's Eyes", published in the Nov 1969 issue of GALAXY magazine. That pretty well specifies when this interview was done.

Ellison overstates the influence of speculative fiction, except as a catalyst to inspire writers to tell more literary and complex works, and influence higher reader expectations going forward in SF fiction.

But masterworks such as Heinlein's STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND, and Bradbury's 451 predate the speculative fiction era

  • @CDBBryan: "Heinlein's STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND, and Bradbury's 451 predate the speculative fiction era"

I must disagree; "the speculative fiction era" is merely a bullshit label, like "new wave".

Try Eric Frank Russel (for example), if you don't believe me. cheers! :-)

  • "the 'burning issues of our times', he said pompously..."

  • He drops Ursula K. le Guin. He's got good taste!

  • @Teabonesteak "The Dispossessed"; Best. Novel. Ever.
