  • thats no canter.try riding english,it looks better

  • The horse is lame

    rider is to big

    horse is behind the bit

    zero contact

bu then again i ride english

  • A disjointed canter, horse is behind the bit....I ride English but this just doesn't look right no matter what, English or Western.

  • WHATS WRONG WITH YOUR HORSE? IT LOOKS SAD AND I THINK YOUR WAY TOO BIG FOR HER

  • @nubianqa817 lol shes not to big for the horse...

  • shows i compete in on a regular basics the horses that move like that in English pleasure will win.

  • she is loping a quarter horse they will go slow that what its supposed to look like in a western pleasure class and in english pleasure its starting to look like that to give her a break if you have nothing nice to say dont say anything at all! my pleasure horse can go slower that that

  • She's too heavy for that horse to actuall canter...

  • lol, thats a lope.

  • RED HORSE AT 0:18! I REPETE! RED HORSE AT 0:18!!!!!! AWESOME! ANYONE NOTICE!?

  • @SuperAlyProductions Lol so cool!

  • Wow. I've been away from the QH world for awhile. Forgot how silly it is to watch a horse "lope." Seems like everyone would be happier at a brisk trot!!! Thanks for the video, though. And BTW, I am an equine veterinarian and this horse is not obviously sore to me. Just has been trained to move this way!

  • cantering is faster and smoother than that

  • i wish she'd wear a helmet. no matter the discipline you should always wear a helmet when riding!

  • thank you so much im 12 yrs old and im just going into the canter and im nervouse i might fall

  • @myahorning12 Dont be nervous, Im sure you will do great! Everyone falls off their horse, but its wheather or not you get back up and try again :)

  • @LongLiveCowboys18 Thank you so much, i mean i will get back up, because probley 2 months ago my horse reared and i fell of, it didnt hurt it just scared me, i thought she would touple over me! so thats why! but thank you

  • @myahorning12 I know! Its very scary! And No problem!:)

  • She's amazing tbh:). I don't know what you lot are saying about her though, if you're looking at expert riders then you've obviously come on her looking for help, I'm sure none of you could do any better.

  • @MattLaille Colby is a quarter horse....

  • this is a lope but her horse is beautiful

  • You call that a smooth gait? It looks like the horse is in pain!

  • @LionessMistress Why because its staying in frame?

  • @Bowermanlvr434 It does NOT look smooth, I'm sorry, but that horse definitely looks like it's in pain, whether it is or not I don't know.

  • @LionessMistress Its a collected lope, mainly its a canter in the front and a trot in the back.

  • Sorry but i can really do better than that. The horse is more in trot than canter and i thought you said keep your heels down?

    1. Check your reins.

    2. Heels down.

3.CHECK YOUR SAFETY! Ride with a helmet.

Your hands are way too far back and they need to be more together, Don't say you're an expert when you can't even do the basics.

  • I hope to see one day horses in western pleasure classes with their heads UP and going like they are happy and proud. It is dangerous to ride a horse like this at a canter or lope. They cannot see. How did this training of western pleasure horses happen? I cannot see anyone really getting pleasure from riding like this. The horse looks sick, lame and sad. Not what I want when I ride. This is an example of why a lot of people are getting out of western pleasure. It really needs to change big time.

  • Why is this woman teacing anyone to do anything on a horse when she is obviously to fucking stupid to do it right herself.

  • Comment removed

  • lol fails should never be used as examples of how to do things. This is an awful example of any kind of canter.... even a western one haha.

  • it looks like the horse is mini bucking..not cantering

  • thats a lope

  • she sucks and her horse is in pain.

  • What is up with your reigns! shorten them and pull her head up straight

  • @nitemareb4christmas its not english its western. there heads are supposed to be low. ive been riding western for 10 years now. so i would know. and even if it is english their heads arent supposed to be straight up. if the horses head is straight up its psycho or rearing.

  • ...she has some good ideas, but her horse looks like its in pain.

  • she says she is experienced i dont think so that is a trot not a canter what an idiot and she does english riding in a western saddle what an idiot

  • @ellieluvsu4eva first of all its slower then a canter which is a lope. they are different things. second she is doing western pleasure and if you have ever been to a western pleasure show you would know that that is how all western pleasure riders lope... then win thier class. its supposed to be slow, unlike barrel racing. if you truely think this is a trot YOU must be the unexperianced one. im not trying to be mean i just want people to get thier facts straight.

  • thats a lope dumbass

  • how is that a canter? and every time i canter it's way faster then that but of course i ride english.

  • that canter is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy too slow!

  • Its actualy called lope because her foot is ahead of her other

  • ok thts not a canter its way too slow and your horse is behind the vetical!!! poor horse...

  • What a disaster.Horse is on its forehand and its a lame behind ,and as far as collection is concerned forgot it learn what collection is and get those poll vaults off your boots.

  • 1. why is the horse limping..

    2. that is not a canter, that is a tranter, ahaha.

  • @xoDressage Umm Nooo If You Look It Up Its A Lopee. Western Canter Duhh

  • By the way thats horse does not look healthy and thats not a canter

  • @MsHorseFreak1 Itrs A LOPE!

  • thisis horse looks lame on the back, poor video sends the wrong sigal out to those who don treally know

  • for crying out loud take off the spike and for god sake put you heel DOWN!

  • it luks lyk shes actully riding the poor horse(i mean RIDING!)

  • To be honest the horse seriously looks like its in pain, it looks like its limping. Thats not a canter.

  • She should have her heels down, she dont need the spurs. And if she was an "expert" she should not be wearing a helmet? so unprofessionsl. Think SAFETY!!! shes not an expert. shes waht u call an idiot.

  • wtf you use spurs let the hose canter you idiot

  • When you kick your horse don't put your heel up! I would not really call you an EXPERT! Any one else notice her outside heel goes up when she kicks? lol

  • definetely a tranter haha fail

  • why is there writing infront of the video...... caant see it

  • That's a stupid western pleasure lope, try a bloody canter, they're harder.

  • what's that??:SS..my opinion is that she don;t know about canter...:O

  • If this was a training video for horses i would understand her choice of horse. But if your trying to demonstrate the proper way to "canter" on a horse. Perhaps you should do it on a horse your NOT training. You were leaning on those reins the entire time. I realize your trying to hold the horse back to keep it slow. But seriously. Lay off the horses face.

  • why are they having a makeup artist teach riding?

  • Western pleasure FAIL. Just get some riding lessons, and sell the horse to someone who can actually collect the horse instead of bouncing along like a newbie!

Or did they run out of trainers and have to use their makeup artist? Lol.

  • How do you get your horse to canter like that? with short strides and slow..

  • ok, so most of you are obviously english riders and dont know shit all about western riding.. please stop saying that " its not a canter " because its obviously not. its called a western lope. she may be 4 beating which isnt proper in western riding and her horse is slightly behind the vertical. but I would love for all you critics to post your own videos and let people judge you like you're judging them..

  • I like the word tranter. omg. that was the slowest caner ive ever seen! i didnt know it was actualy possible to canter that slow.

  • what the heck kind of a canter is that?!? I agree with equinexphysco!! TRANTER!!

  • That was more like a lil skip than a canter ;L Wear Jodhpurs too wen your riding :0 :L

  • @PrincezChloe western riders dont wear jodhpurs they wear bluejeans

  • @PrincezChloe its western riding! were not preppy.

  • yeah you call that a lope ???

  • @rihannafan2323 I agree! I think she is doing western pleasure, a calm and collected canter. My friend used to do it, but she quit. I think it is so ugly looking, lol

  • dude... what the hell was that... that was such a tranter.. give her more leg get her going.. learn how to ride

  • That was more of a lope than a canter, it seems the canter is faster than a lope but thats my opinion.

  • @superdeelite u must ride english.

  • she says keep your hands still why is she moving her's so uch then she looks like a flappy bird

  • It's a nice smooth three beated gait.. Smooth? Horse looks in pain love!

  • so diferent from the english looks strange

  • wow horrible she looks like she is doing a tranter .. she is to heavy or that horse si to old

  • she does know to get a horse to canter u use ure inside leg

  • @karategrl316 no you use your outside leg...

  • looks like a sitting trot thats to slow for a canter its not smooth

  • she kinda looks like she is inbetween a lope and a trot

  • zweihändig mit kandare???

  • I believe the term is troping.

  • i understand that a western canter is very different from the english canter and is more of a loping jog than anything, but this cantering seems more like the mare is trotting with her back legs and cantering with her front. and she's not collected at all, and she's waaay behind the bit. way behind. those spurs are also massive and it's like she's stabbing the horse with every stride. you also shouldn't have to remind your horse to keep going every ten seconds.

    moron.

  • A well trained horse should be able to pick up any gait and remain there until asked to change....not have to keep you outside spur in her side to keep her there....this is the worst canter I have ever seen....and why is she using a direct rein in a shank bit...like seriously this is not what we want to teach young inexperienced riders

  • Ugh, this is the best person you could find? Horse is way behind the bit, not collected, and just looks terrible.

Rider is toe out, appears to be humping the saddle with each stride, plow reining, GIANT spurs WTF, had to trot to get mare into canter, which is not surprising considering how heavy she is on the forehand. Stirrups are too short for western events, even with giant spurs she's swinging her leg way back to jab the horse. BAD all around. Get a real expert.

  • @laventear, I totally agree.

  • WTF is this??? this is not a canter because the horse is going sooooo slow!!!! if you want to show us how to canter then get on an english horse and saddle and show us how to do it!

  • Oh but this is Western Pleasure. She isn't going anywhere near slow enough to win at Western Pleasure.

Seriously look up some Western Pleasure videos, it looks so horrible.

  • she didnt really say anything about western pleasure, its slow enough for a small circle in a reining pattern, might not be a western pleasure horse

  • Okay, so, I'm not a western expert. I will be the first, second AND third person to admit this. I ride English. That being said, I've never seen a horse canter/lope like this. I know Western lopes are slow, but this horse looks almost as though it's trying to break into a trot every few strides, it's just that slow.

Buut, I'm no Western expert, so that's just my $0.02

  • *cough* WESTERN PLEASURE CANTER *cough* She does it perfectly. Look up your facts.

  • I love how everybody is critizing. Im not a western rider at all. I prefer english because it's more my style. But you look like a professional from what i have seen. I've been to shows for western pleasure championships and the horses moved and responded just like your's and were placed 1st. So i don't know how these people have the room to comment besides being jealous. You're horse doesn't look miserble btw, she looks like she is just doing what you ask. x!

  • That is actually how they are suppose to Look, When they Lope Like that. Its very Unnatural for the horse to move like that however since they are suppose to be pushing off with their Haunches and not their front hand . But it does give the tendency that they are stiff or lame. Just check out Western Pleasure Lopes on Youtube and every horse Looks the same. Do your research before you judge someone.

  • one word... 'tranter'

    :D

  • TRANTER indeed lol way to slow x

  • that horse slooks stiff and uncomfortable...and u are doing absolutely nothing to push that horse into a more energetic canter. The horse looks like its totally bored and going to die ¬¬ seriously.

Aren't you suppsed to have ur heels down too? and weres you helmet!

  • @Beeny295 helmets are a personal prefrence not everyone wears them i barrel race and dont wear one and when you have spurs on you usually have to tip your heels up to get contact between the spur and the horse, also the horse is not stiff and uncomfortable it called western pleasure they always have a slow LOPE

  • english rider?...just a guess

  • I resent that remark! Im an English rider and I dont ride like a sack of shit like this dumb bitch!

  • i was commenting on someone elses remark not on the girl in the videos rideing, the girl i commented on she was an english rider and was commenting on the movment of the horse because it is different from english canter...nothing ment to an english rider i ride english as well as western (mostly western tho)...it was just annoying to see someone makeing the rude remarks that the girl did when she obv didnt have much info on western rideing....shouldnt get so diffensive

  • For crist's sake..this is not a CANTER !!! It's western pleasure.....

  • Okay people, here's the thing. This lady knows what she's doing becaus she knows her horse is a right. She wouldn't be riding her horse if her horse weren't alright. This horse simply has a WERTERN PLEASURE CANTER. There isn't anything wrong with the horse, as far as I can tell. I don't know why everyone is anlways bitching about this video! :I

  • I hate to say it, but hock injections would do this horse good.

  • fucking hell, if you want the horse to move properly let her canter properly, not at the speed of walk ffs.

if i was you id get her spine and legs looked at, did you not feel she was stiff?

or did you not even notice it when you got her out the stable ? i mean really..

your an "expert" more like a novice tbh..

  • What is with her hind legs?take her to a vet,she was way too stiff at a lope

  • HEY I know she said she was an expert and all but stop offending her!!!!!!!

  • Crap Rider - poor horse! Have you ever thought of taking that poor horse to a vet and having its spine checked out. Placing 12 tons of stodgy lard on her back must be against the law!

  • @snapper444 wow... you're a bitch

  • very on the forehand.....it looks absolutly horrible poor mare will be so stiff and u can even see that in her hocks. she is tense, how could u ride a horse like this and say ur an expert!

  • that is the slowest canter ive ever seen and that saddle and pad looks to far up on the horse that orit has a very long but lol i can canter better than that and ive only been rideing for like 3 months lol

  • You put the outside leg up the horses side and squeeze, maybe giving it a tap with a crop. Don't lean too forward and look up.

How hard is it to do that!? Dumbass...

  • that girl is a bad rider

  • Poor Horse. Get a life.

  • About the most forward I've seen that horse was when she kissed to her.

  • that wasn't a canter. In another video she was going on about loping and canter which think are the same thing ust at different speeds a normal canter is not that slow. It just looks odd... she doesn't really no wat she is talking about... lol

  • What is with the two handed riding in a ginormous curb bit? O.O You CANNOT engage only one side of a horse's mouth with a curb like with a snaffle, so all her inside rein cue is doing is pulling on that poor horse's mouth (did you see her gaping? OUCH!). Obviously she's no 'expert.' Oh, and by the way, behind the vertical and on the forehand is not 'collection,' but it's a really great way to make her tense, unhappy, and sore!

  • ur sopposed 2 have ur heel down! da

  • Yeah Um I would be embarrassed to post this If I were that fatty. What was with her constantly pushing her spurs into her horse? That poor horse. Good looking horse, too. But wow. That fat ass had to ruin it. Idiot can't even keep her heels down. SHIT LIKE THIS JUST PISSES ME OFF WOW WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER. ALL I CAN SAY IS, HORSE- I'M SORRY. FAT LADY- GET A DIFFERENT HOBBY.

  • I am neutral as to what I think of this video, but to better explain the reasoning behind her outside spur being held on the horse, I thought I would comment. The mare in the video appears to be spur trained, and by that I don't just mean she can be rode with spurs, I mean all of her "buttons" are pushed with leg and spur, judging by the way she moves, she is a tough horse to keep up, rounded, and driving from behind.

  • On horses like her it helps to keep a constant reminder that she needs to maintain forward motion, hints the constant lifting of the spur on her side. Hope this helps!

  • @seagypsy11 yeahhh why do you even bother... you're a horrible horrible person, I hope you know that

  • That horse looks like it's limping extremely badly. That wasn't even really a canter, I've seen properly collected canters and that wasn't one... Sorry.

  • THat horse sure wasn' submitting to the bit! That wasn't even a canter!

  • Now I know nothing about western riding but isnt That horses canter is a bit strange or do all western horsescanter like that?

  • Myafnwy42, I also wanted to say that that is a western pleasure lope. It is meant to be a three beat lope. You are just a constant downer, huh? Just because you think you know so much doesn't mean you should piss other people off with your smart mouth comments and know it all attitude. If you think so poorly of this woman, then go watch a different video that fits your liking!!! I'm tired of people leaving rude comments. Treat people how you want to be treated.

  • people (myfanwy42), because my horse had behavioral problems, the way I had to hold my reins was the same way that the lady did. If you call her a bad rider, your pretty much calling me a bad rider too. Just becasue SOME PEOPLE think that Western riding is supposed to mean holding with only one hand, then you are all wrong. She is an exceptional rider, and go to heck, myfanwy42. If you don't have aanything good to say, don't say anything at all!

  • Miss, you have a gorgeouse horse, and in all honesty I am quite jelouse of your outside arena. ;)

I thought you explained it beautifully, even though other peopleare critiqueing you harshly about other things.

I only suggest one thing: give her just a few more inches of rein so I don't have to read about other people 'yeling' and whining about her headset.

    Beautiful horse. :)

  • 3. You are riding in what appears to be a charming cathedral bit and even if the port isn't high, it's still a substantial shanked bit. The horse is clearly over four years old. YOU DO NOT NEED TWO HANDS. You are billing yourself as an expert in the field and even though you clearly are not, abiding by the generally accepted rules would be useful.

  • WOW. That is....depressingly terrible.

    1. You have a very nice horse. Lucky you. How about you let him go in a natural carriage without forcing his poll below the vertical--a move that will now get you automatically disqualified in AQHA, APHC and APHA show rings.

    2. If the exercise is supposed to illustrate a canter or a lope, how about showing a true canter/lope. Both are three beat gaits, no matter where you show. A forebeat will also get you on the bottom of a good judge's card.

  • omg! Jeez people! Even if she is doing it incorrectly doesn't mean you you have to be so judgemental and mean!

gosh! if she isn't doing it right its because she doesn't know better! so give her and her horse a break! how would you feel if someone said all these nasty things about you!

  • sorry, but its on EXPERT VILLAGE. they should know how to do what they "teach"

  • Oh people please! Were ucky people do this! EVEN IF SHE ISNT THE BET RIDER OR THE HORE ISNT A GOOD MOVER AT LEST SHES EXPLAING HOW TO PUT YOUR LEGS! god giv some gratitude jeeze

  • wear a helmit dude

  • if you look at the legs, its barely a trot half the time

im surprised the horse didnt spook because the ends of her reins are at the poor things knees

  • @kawaiizmeh hahahaha wow... what kind of horse do you have !? spooking at the ends of the reins ?

  • that ant a canter wtf!!!

  • Ayye sure houl on i dont ride western but im SURE the horse isnt supposed to almost fall over. LIKE DUHHHH Get A freeaking LIFE . You, Cannot, RIDE.

  • AWFUL riding. Don't take any tips from this.

  • kind of looks like 4-beat..

  • Hold your reins right its not a fuckin chuck wagon!

  • oh my goodness.. im really sorry but your way to heavy for her.She has a short..and barley moving canter ..

  • omg !!!! that is a lope there supossed to look like that !!

  • its not because the woman is chubby its because the horse is a bad mover and she doesnt know how to lift her shoulders.

  • omg sorry but that looks awful, you look a little heavy for her.

  • What kind of canter is that???

  • it a lope (western pleasure)

  • Oh and she is almost falling on her nose she is so far on the forehand. Sigh.

  • she is supposed to be like that !!

  • Er.... what's with the fecking great spurs??? And there is absolutely no impulsion there. Getting a horse into an outline does not involve hoiking it's head in then making go as slow as possible. That was painful to watch. She is not a sympathetic rider. Poor horse.

  • its definatly the right steps but its too slow to be a canter....shes not the best rider or teacher but u guys dont have to be so mean about it.

  • thats not cantering

i jump a 1.40 m and catering is when they lift they back legs t u cant ride for shite

  • Comment removed

  • Wow you people are seriously rude to this poor woman. All you have to do is polite when you are trying to get your point across. I agree that she isn't a good teacher and she really shouldn't be teaching others but her riding is ok. She is definately not too big for the horse. That is a wp horse and that's how they move. I show wp horses and I've been to the World Paint Show 3 times so there is nothing wrong with the horse. Learn some respect people and get your point across in a nicer way.

  • The horse looks slow in canter one sign that your to heavy for her!

  • this is a joke, right??? that lady cant ride for CRAP!

  • Where's the canter? That's some demented gait that I have never seen before. Can this woman actually seat a true canter? Has she ever been on a horse while cantering? Geeze...

  • That's Western Pleasure in a nutshell. Unfortunately the style for the last 30 years has deteriorated into something aweful and painful to watch.

  • Eww. My trainer would be chasing after me with a riding crop for it, there's not enough impulsion to it at all.

  • she always sounds out of breath while shes riding

  • srr y thats not a canter

  • thats not a canter is a lope. lope is a slower canter.

  • that was an answer to suisseswiss

  • That was pathetic. I wouldn't even call that a canter!!

  • And i just noticed her bio in the description!!

Bio: Kelli LaBar is a practicing aesthetician and makeup artist in Wilmington, N.C.

She's a make up artist!! - they never said she was an expert RIDER

    hahahahahahah

  • uhh thats is slow trot that may look like canter..

and nxt time wear a helmet and no spurs thanx

  • Just... fail. Expert? I believe that statement is false! <3

  • ermm..

im not too sure what your doing :S

why arent you waring a hat ?? whay are you wearing spurs ?? why are your hands so high ?? why do you look much too big for that poor horse ??

i dont mean to sound nasty but you dont seem like much of an 'expert' :S

  • thats not canter or a lope XD its more like a slow working trot

  • thats so oddly true, i ride western and i hate the western lope, i want the horse to be dramatic not skippy. it looks like it would sounds like a skipping record or CD. i dont like it. i like it when he reaches low but slow. not like hes trotting but sorta like a slow trot. jog i guess.

  • i did some month english horse ridding then i stopped for about 5 years and started since about 2 weeks western horse ridding and i do canter... but its much faster ...so is that really canter ?and why do i canter just with one hand is that really correct ...my teacher learns me that but i didn't see anybody cantering with one hand

  • maybe you have to ride with one hand because you've got different sort of steel things in the mouth (I'm from Holland so I don't know the right word for it) but a friend of mine rides a quarter and she has such a thing for one hand riding, but some one else I know had one you can ride with 2 hands or with 1. and this canter is really slow yes, it looks like he's going to fall asleep, but I think it is really hard to get you horse like that, I think it requires some training. Good luck!

  • thx for answering me :D ...i asked my teacher and he told me that i'm cantering with one hand because in western u can he though it would maybe be easier for me to keep my hand a little more up then how i have them in english style but actualy i can hold my hands quite correctly so he lets me choose =) thx again regards

  • thats to slow for canter

  • you need more practice Kelly!

  • thats not a canter thats call a lope miss expert

  • thats not a canter! that is a horse who look
